Today I'm watching Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn and you should too.
I didn't hear much about this movie at least not as much as I hear about other movies so let's watch it.

Harley Quinn suffered with Stockholm Syndrome. If you know the history of Harley and Joker he was always abusive. He's even tried to kill her.

It's not Stockholm Syndrome. That's when a victim who is a hostage bonds with their captor. Harley willing fell in love with Joker; she chased him. He wasn't interested in her. That's their history. Don't get it twisted, their relationship was very toxic and he's abusive, which she didn't see or admit to for a long time, but she wasn't some helpless pure-hearted girl. She was delusional; a groupie basically.

@@sagittarius420cheefie Yes. But Harley fell in love with Joker in Arkham Asylum when she was his psychiatrist. She felt like she was the only one that understood him and wanted to be his sidekick. The abuse part came after. So it's not Stockholm Syndrome. It was more denial that he was abusive; she purposefully blinded herself to it.

@@sagittarius420cheefie For a situation to be labeled Stockholm Syndrome the victim must have been physically trapped. Not emotionally or mentally (though that happens later, even when they are physically free).

People just wanna hate this movie for no reason. I loved this movie and this is coming from the same dude who didn’t like Charlie’s angels and that god awful female ghostbusters.

@@MayMayhoe If you know anything about the DC comics then you’d know how inaccurate the movie is to birds of prey. The only thing they got right was Huntresses backstory (originally they let her live cuz she was a girl) and Harley is nothing like Harley in the comics or cartoons, Robbie does a great job but it’s the writing that fucks it up. Cassandra was a horrible choice for the movie, she’s bat girl but they made her a villain. The movie is a great gateway for a birds of prey two (Harley isn’t apart of any of the birds of preys in the comics btw) one without Harley. But a horrible way to introduce poison Ivy. Edit: also when they broke up the joker was pissed and Harley was becoming a new person. (The TV show got it right)

black canary and canary cry was iconic. sad that she didn't use it much in this movie. I hope Jurnee get to play Black Canary again she a bit different but i like it.

Well maybe because she has some problems regarding her mom's death, is why I think she had this like refusal to use her powers because she didn't want to follow in her mother's path and end up dying like she did. So when she finally used the canary cry, it was like an ode to this possibly being the first time in a long time that she's used her powers, so she'll possibly get more training as time passes.

While I agree it would have been cooler if she used her powers more, she definitely had a good reason not to throughout most of the movie. I understood her reason which is why for me it was so fulfilling when she finally did. And her fighting style was cool enough so it wasn't much of a negative for me.

The main reason Harley and Mistah J broke up between movies was that Jared Leto was a massive creep and alienated everyone on the set of Suicide Squad, and Robbie didn't want him anywhere near her or this movie.

Also Joker is extremely important and integral to Harley's story in every game, show and comic she's been in before, and something as big as their break up needs to be built up to imo

This is my favorite DC movie FOR SURE 🥰 Harley Quinn is so great here. And Birds of Prey has always been my favorite team in the comics (only Black Canary and Huntress are usually members, not the others) i just love this so much and SO GLAD you decided to react to it 😁😁😁

Well the thing is this movie does not do a good job with having someone understand the dynamics of Harley and jokers relationship. Even in the suicide squad they just kind of glide over there relationship. Which I think is the biggest problem with this movie. Like if I am going off of the last movie that she was in the joker in the suicide squad was way more gentle caring Of Harley compared to every single in a verson of their relationship. without actually seeing where all this pain or stuff comes from it makes it hard to really care about the character.

I like Marvel but I’m personally a much bigger fan of the DC Extended Universe, would love for you to cover Aquaman and Shazam! I think they’re both solid as well the director’s cut of Justice League aka the true version of the film which comes out early to mid 2021 ☺️ (Also your editing is so so good!)

I don't love this movie, but I love your editing. So many people just put the movie in a little box in the corner and barely add anything to what they're watching. Your videos, however, are a great example of transformative content. I'm not watching this for the movie. I'm watching this for what you add to it. I just really admire that about your videos. There's like one series I can think of and the POINT of that series was "what if the Joker actually loved Harley." Its literally canon in basically every iteration the only person he cares about, in his own sick way, is Batman.

This movie to me is underrated. It's about women living in the shadows of men. I think that's such a deep and controversial topic to tackle in such a blockbuster. I think it does this very well, plus the fight scenes, the not so normal narrative flow makes this something special

Biggest problem with this movie: Harley's story is, at best, the third most interesting one happening, but it's the one we get to watch. Huntress' story and Black Canary's story would both have been much more interesting films.

I actually disagree. Their stories are cool, but more conventional(on screen). They would also not be such unreliable narrators as Harley is, and a big part of the movie is about unreliable narration, distortion between reality and what happened, and piecing things back together while not going grimdark in tone. Harley gives the perfect POV for that type of "meta" narrative. That said, I´m all for a Huntress show

i think the issue with harley breaking up with the joker is that in suicide squad, the relationship is shown as love rather than the toxic abusive relationship that it is. So in this film her breaking up with him doesnt nake nuch sense. If they would have done a solo film with Jared & Margot and really shown how toxic the relationship was as well as let Jared actually be the Joker - the breakup up would have done well cause you have to remember- the average audience member more than likely hasn't seen the animated series nor read a comic. so there knowledge of this couple is coming strictly from this movie

Well tbf, there *was* gonna be a Joke and Harley Quinn movie, but it got cancelled. Also, the Suicide Squad movie was apparently a Justice League situation, where the movie was heavily changed from the original vision for it. In one of the scripts for Suicide Squad, Harley was even going to hook up with Deadshot towards the end of the film.

Didn't this movie come out right when the first wave of shutdowns began, I'm paradoxically surprised and unsuprised that no one seems to be talking about that. Also in the scene where she's hitting everyone with glitter she's delivering it through propelled bean bags, imagine someone throwing something at you really fast.

Loved your reaction to BoP and I agree with you, this movie definitely deserves more hype. I watched it at the cinema and really loved & enjoyed it, I still do whenever I watch it. It has a great cast and amazing characters. One thing though, it's not just R-rated because of the strong language, you've got the faces peeled off, people blowing up to pieces... sure it's done colorfully but it's all there 😂

I literally saw this last night and it is SO MUCH better than I thought!! It is so fun to look at and the sleaze balls genuinely gave me the creeps and made me scared. It may have faults but it wasn't anything major that hindered with just having fun and relating to the emotions. I heard some of the criticisms men had to say about this movie and it's really telling how entitled they are to being sexually indulged while even a lot of women have some degree of internalized misogyny.

I love this movie, it was beautiful in theatres. The colors and costuming is amazing and Margot is perfect as Harley. I agree, definitely did not get enough talk!

YEEE Doctor Jones is coming up!!! - I am also a big movie buff, as an ageing white guy I am always into watching classics I grew up with and sharing them people I want to know their perspective of the movie. When they say walk a mile in an other person's shoes. Don't get me wrong, I am a proud Generation X person ( '80s were cool), but I am also aware some of those classics did not age well. Re-watching them threw a younger generation spectrum ( cause I am not young anymore and never were neither black or a women or American) is adding a whole new level of enjoyment of my yearly marathon of classic trilogies. Star Wars was better this year 'cause of you. And the reason I chose your channel to subscribe out of the all the other ones, You took note of John Williams music soundtrack. That man's music is a path to a great movie lists some consider classics. ;) Keep up the good work, you might not have known but you are helping mending the world with your videos. PS: Did not get the crossed off eggplant emoji joke? That was the one reason the movie's rated R in the US :D
