Back when HP was only a book saga,I-COULDN'T-STAND IT!Everyone(and I mean *literally everyone* from my best friend to my best friend's parents to my Italian TEACHER!)was telling me that it was just the kind of story that I would like and that I absolutely had to read it,that I would have loved it etc and the more they told me this the more I was starting to *hate* that kid and that saga!X-[ Then the 1st movie came out. And I was like:"Alright,FINE 🙄💢watching a movie is easier and faster than reading a book...I can give it a try so I'll finally see if all those people are right about this being"just my type of story"or not and,hopefully,after I checked they will leave me alone.😓"Result?Only in theaters,I've seen that movie *6 times!* The 2nd movie I liked it _even more than the 1st one_ and the 3rd I went to watch the preview in London(I'm from Italy)the 31st of May because I couldn't wait *4 more days* for it to be out in Italy!!!🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩

Harry Potter gets a year older in each film. Rn the tone of the movie comes across as very childish, but it gradually gets darker throughout the series as Harry Potter matures and begins to understand how much is at stake in this conflict with Voldemort. You’ll like the next movie, but I think you’ll really start loving the series by the third movie.

Looking back on it, that photo album Hagrid gives him at the end of this one is probably the best gift Harry ever gets in his life. For the first time, he gets to see his parents as real, tangible people who cared about him, held him, and took pictures with him like all the other kids with parents had growing up, and thanks to magic, he can see how they actually would’ve been as real people living a moment full of love and joy instead of just a snapshot of that moment in time. I don’t remember if we ever hear about it again, but I’d bet that album is probably one of his greatest personal treasures even if we don’t.

O yea, you're gonna fall in love with this series. Before I watched them, I never thought I'd like them either. I was like, "maaan, that's for kids." I was very pleasantly surprised. What the others mentioned about the tone shift over time is so true. Really well done. The severity/heavy subject matter grows with Harry and the rest. Bomb series. Only one in the genre that I think contends with it is Lord of the Rings.

When J.K. Rowling wrote the 1st Harry Potter story, she was broke and probably had no idea how big her novel was going to become when it was published in 1997... Once it became a best-seller, it was made into this 2001 movie, and that made the 'Harry Potter' books a massive phenomenon. I remember when the last book (the seventh) 'Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows' was released in 2007, it was an international event that made the national news - 8.3 million copies were sold on the 1st day in the US, 44 million sold worldwide in 1 yr. J.K. Rowling is worth 1 billion $$ today I have to admit, I did not see Prof. Quirrell being the guilty party... but British writers tend to embrace an unpredictable twist in their stories' endings. Now, the films are somewhat simplified from the books. But each book and film portrays Harry Potter's 1 school year at Hogwarts. Harry Potter endured horrible treatment by his Uncle, aunt & cousin, because they were not expecting to raise their nephew, but Dumbledore intimidated them to giving Harry sanctuary... but they treated him like an unwanted stepchild - something that commonly happens in families... Now, Harry is not the most powerful wizard, but he excels at certain magical skills like flying, aerial tasks and learning fast... Ron is less skilled as a wizard, but more persistent - his wizard family is poor, but large & loving... Hermione is the genius of the 3 and an expert at spells - her parents are muggles (non-wizards) but she has wizard ancestry by blood that gave her powers ...
@shanekeenaNYC

Uh, Harry literally mastered Death itself. I think Harry classifies as being the most powerful wizard.
@sumonjamal1653
@sumonjamal1653 2 жыл бұрын
@@shanekeenaNYC Harry rejected having the Elder wand or the Resurrection stone. That was what Voldemort was trying to be - master of death. He was trying to be the ultimate wizard, an aim Harry rejected. Harry's protection was a spell given to him by his mom, who sacrificed her life to save her son... As far as powers go, Harry is less knowledgeable than Hermione and less powerful than Ginny... The whole point of the series is not Harry's power, but his character.
@shanekeenaNYC
@shanekeenaNYC 2 жыл бұрын
@@sumonjamal1653 Just because you don't chase power doesn't mean you won't earn it. As far as I am concerned, Harry's character IS his power. His love, his heart, his soul. All of those things ARE his power, and overwhelm anything Voldemort could have thrown at him. Don't insult Harry Potter's intelligence or any of his other attributes and don't reduce him down like you are doing right now. Hell, in Book 7, Harry even points out how limited Hermione's mind was after they learned about the Deathly Hallows. Read the book and see. "Luna has told me all about you, young lady," said Xenophilius. "You are, I gather, not unintelligent, but painfully limited. Narrow. Close-minded." “But Harry’s imagination was racing ahead, far beyond Ron and Hermione’s…" "He saw concern and something less easily definable in Hermione’s expression. Then, as she glanced at Ron, Harry realized that it was fear: He had scared her with his talk of living with dead people." I don't think a person more intelligent than Harry would have been nearly as scared of that direction of magic.
@sumonjamal1653
@sumonjamal1653 2 жыл бұрын
@@shanekeenaNYC Easy there, u took my comments out of context. When I referred to Harry Potter's "power", I was talking about his magical abilities. What made Harry the outstanding character was his depth... U look at the sorting hat in the first book - it couldn't place him initially because he had bravery, intelligence, compassion and skill - the qualities valued by each of the 4 Hogwarts Houses... I was pointing out that in the wizarding world, Harry is more Captain America than Hulk or Thor... not the most powerful, but the most respected, valued, and a leader in the Marvel universe.

Exactly me! About fifteen years ago I saw this. I had heard nothing about the story, but knew it was all kinds of popular. I had no interest. I accidentally recorded the first two movies when I left my vcr recording and fell asleep. I didn’t even know until more than a year later that I had them. I decided to give them a see, and decide if they were appropriate for my little girl to watch. It was so much deeper, and insightful than I expected, but also lots of fun. I decided I had better get the rest of the movies. Meanwhile, my daughter found the books in her school library. She read the first three in a week. That was the fourth grade. By the time she got to Goblet Of Fire, she was livid about how much the movies left out. She watched them though, as each new one came out. I have watched the entire set several times. I finally listened to the audiobooks. There is indeed lots of things which the movies leave unexplained, or not included at all. House elves were totally robbed. Bummer. So, I went from zero interest, to owner of Snape’s wand, several potion bottles, the full set of dvds, not to mention the stuff I got for my daughter.

I hate that they left the part out in Diagon Alley with Harry getting his robes because he meets Draco Malfoy there and Draco talks to him about Hogwarts, but Harry doesn’t really know what to say because he’s raised by Muggles. Draco acts kinda snobby but not terrible or mean. And Ron laughed at him like his name was funny, anyone would get defensive. Harry made Draco his enemy by saying what he said on the staircase, honestly, all because Draco reminded him of Dudley. lol. But of course that context isn’t really known.

I grew up with Harry Potter and watched all the films multiple times, got the books when they were released at midnight. It gave me so much joy watching you watch it for the first. I loved how open you were to it, even though it's a kids film and you didn't think you'd like it. I'm looking forward to seeing you react to the rest of them.

I thought these were going to be "cute books to read as a family. " They are, but the characters are growing up throughout the series. So are the readers. I still love these movies for the memories they represent to our family. If you have kids who like to read, have them try these books.

So fun fact about Quidditch: Catching the snitch *does* end the game, however, it doesn't guarantee a win. The snitch is worth 150 points to the team that catches it. This means that if one team is just stupid good at scoring the Quaffle (10 points per hoop), it's possible for a team to catch the snitch, end the game, and still not have enough points to win.

This was one of the most enjoyable videos I've watched in a long time. As someone who grew up with Harry Potter and teaches it to students, watching you go from "I don't think I'm going to like it," to "I'm watching the entire movie series," was the pick-me-up I needed. Your smile is completely infectious, and I loved watching someone comment on a fandom's favorite/important moments for the first time. Thank you! 😊😄

I love that you’re watching all of these movies 20 years later and just figuring out that they are amazing you should read the books. Or listen to them audio. They are better than the movies

I remember when I was younger I wanted nothing to do with Harry Potter, I hated the idea and I didn't want to read any of the books. But my mom made me try to read at least the first book because she loved them when they came out, and I fell in love with the series after that. I'm so glad to see more people getting into the series

If you have kids, I recommend not letting them watch the films until they read each book. The books are so good, that if your kids aren't into reading, these books will likely get them going. Best age to start is around 9 or 10 with the first one. If they watch the film first, they'll be put off reading the book and will miss out on a great experience. I was lucky enough to have a 9 year old daughter when this book came out. I picked out for her bc she wasn't into reading and wanted to find something she would like. No one had heard of it yet. We got started reading it together and before we knew it, she had taken over reading it not content with the one chapter b4 bed limit. She then told all her friends about it at school. Before you knew it, a couple of years later the film came out. She then basically grew up at the same rate as Harry. She even went on to the open auditions here in London for a character called Luna Lovegood! It was such a lovely experience. A privilege to have 'discovered' it so early on.
