In the prelude comic tied to the events of this movie, it’s revealed that T’Challa had already been Black Panther since around the same time that Tony Stark became Iron Man. T’Chaka continued to be king but had retired the mantle of Black Panther and passed it on to his son who was still the crown prince of Wakanda at the time. T’Chaka in the Oakland 1992 flashback was portrayed by John Kani’s real life son Atandwa.

That “what are those” joke was outdated when this movie came out but it’s in there because it helps show that the movie takes place in 2015 not 2018 when the movie was actually released. Marvel does a lot of background details like that to keep the timeline consistent.

I’m glad you rewatched this. It’s cool if a reactor who’s going through a series rewatches a movie, especially if they watched it in theaters cause others wanted them to. You get a brand new appreciation for it while also having prior knowledge of the (in this case, marvel) world.

Fun fact: In the comics T'Chala has an older brother named Hunter who goes by the alias of The White wolf leader of the Dogs of war. The wakandian secret military police, he's a villain turn Anti hero. Shuri is also T'Chalas half sister same father different mothers.

When Black Panther came out I was in awe because my father and I used to watch some of the Black Panther cartoon series when I was a child and it always hurts everytime I remember that Chadwick Boseman is gone, RIP to him and may his family find comfort even after all these years. Also it's always good to see a citizen of my Country on the big screen, Wakanda forevah and M'Baku forevah.

Bucky has a character circle in it with zero progression. And the bad guys are hurting innocent people cuz they have to give back the stuff they unrightfully took from the people that got thanos snapped. And the "you need to do better senator" is the cringiest most self-absorbent line I ever heard. Two white cops dont recognise mfkin Falcon, the dude saved the world. Forced tension to shoehorn in stereotypical political ideology. That tv show is a disaster sadly.

*This movie* was an event. As a Black American from Brooklyn, NY... It was such an amazing vibe going to the movie theater that day. I went with a group called "Black Nerd Society and Geeks of Color" so we were on a level that you'd expect, *but* everyone else in the area, and neighborhood were feeling it too. And for the next few months afterwards, there was just such a wholesome vibe that that film brought 🙅🏾‍♂️🙅🏾‍♂️🙅🏾‍♂️
