The musical is intended to be a bit of a loop, the title and opening song is called “The Guy Who DIDN’T Like Musicals”, the musical begins from there and concludes with Paul and Emma finally being infected, putting everything in place again for the infected characters to sing the opening number

You didn't show your reaction to the "What do you want?" song on here, but how you mentioned that the musical didn't feel cliche really made me think of it. People say how every musical needs an "I want" song where the main character sings about their goals or what they long for. Since Paul doesn't like musicals, his boss was trying to force the want song out of him, trying to get him to accept his place as the main character in a musical.

This was so fun to watch lol. I recommend you reacting to "Black friday" which is based in the same world with the same characters except meteor didn't happen but there's a bigger and scarier threat: capitalism!

Starship is a fun one. Obviously everyone knows they did the Very Potter Musicals - there's also Firebringer, Twisted, Holy Musical B@tman. They have a ton of fun and well sung projects :D And now to actually watch the video I just got excited and had to hop into the comments first thing lol

Paul some how managed to be both "die the hero" and "live long enough to become the villain" which is honestly genius (that's a comment i found on the actual video, i wanted to say it here tho)

21:50 favorite subtle part is how he says "bleed red, white, and-" and the lights turn blue at the gunshot where he cuts off. I just love Starkid's attention to detail with stage production, how some of their funnier shows like this they can add so many meta's like clearing the stage of the chairs and keyboard and little musical jokes with it :)

If you liked this, I definitely recommend their parody of Aladdin called Twisted, it's got a lot of catchy songs, funny jokes and a really captivating plot, imagine the musical Wicked but Aladdin. Cannot recommend enough

This is not even the most confusing musical of theirs. Please cover more of them, I would LOVE that! Btw, there is a theory that Paul is just faking at the end and telling her to blend in. AND there is a musical playing in the same town in a different reality, its called "Black Friday".

A comment I seen about the musical that I hadn't thought of before- Paul was able to be turned because he finally had something he wanted. The "what do you want paul?" song showed he had no ambitions- but when he wanted to defeat the aliens, to save emma? They were able to use that and turn them.

Other fun realizations - If you remember much of the potter musicals the actress who's playing Emma the barista? Is Draco. (Ron is the angry co-worker) Yaxley is here too. They're just all so great. This is probably my top musical from them for singing and lyrics.

MORE MUSIAL THEATRE, MORE STARKID I mean all the Very Potter musicals would be amazing

This one is the very best, because it’s one of the few musicals where every song (except the opening) is diegetic. Paul being “super boring” is actually intentional because in musicals, songs are basically a way to get to know the characters. Paul being a “boring” character was preventing him from succumbing to the apotheosis. When Paul expresses his want to be with Emma, the aliens grab that so that can make him sing. You notice that the words in Inevitable is like a love song to Emma. Also, this musical has a sequel called Black Friday. Characters from this show make an appearance in that one. Twisted is also one of Starkid’s best shows. It’s a Disney parody about Ja’far that uses a lot of Howard Ashman’s and Stephen Sondheim’s techniques in musical storytelling.

Did you miss the credits from the video? I though that was really good too, with Emma still being 'in character' and the rest just ending it, like the end of a performance

When Paul first sings "I've never been happy..." it always hits me. IDK what it is, but of all the lines he could have first let out upon his first song, those are the words that he chose to sing.

Haven’t watched yet but I am predicting he stops and compliments Jamie on her beautiful belt in “Join us and Die” Edit: he didn’t? I find that odd since he always comments on amazing notes and oh my GOD is Jamie just incredibly talented.

Starkid musicals are always so good. The music in TGWDLM was written by Jeff Blim (the guy with the long hair) and he's incredibly talented. I mean, all of the Starkid team members are, but he deserves an extra shout-out.

Here's some I recommend: Black Friday- In the sequel of The Guy Who Didn't Like Musicals, the residents of Hatchetfield and the rest of the country quite literally start killing each other over the hottest new toy, The Wiggly Doll, on Black Friday. Twisted: The Untold Story of a Royal Vizier- Imagine Wicked, but for Aladdin. We discover Jafar's side of the story. This is my fav of the starkid shows because I think the writing and music is Broadway level good. Firebringer- Follow a tribe of prehistoric humans as they discover the invention of fire and the perils that come with it. I like this play because the music is very on-brand, incorporating xylophone and tribal drums.

Super fun reaction vid!! A couple cool facts: Some scenes with Paul and Emma, including their heart-to-heart, have the _Inevitable_ piano leitmotif play in the bg :") And in a fun deconstruction of musical/story tropes, the aliens use each character's "character want" to get them. Most obvious with Emma's "i want to not die in Hatchetfield" (she dies in Clivesdale). And of course the aliens chase Paul's motivation the whole musical bc they desperately want him as their protag ("What do you want, Paul?" "Don't you want to save the planet?" "'It doesn't matter what i want.' ' We think it does, Paul.'"). Only after he admits that he wants to be happy with Emma to General McNamara ("Is there a chance at something more?" "I want there to be") is he vulnerable to assimilation. It's also kinda sad that Paul's desire is twisted in _Inevitable_ -- "I know what i want now! Emma i want you (to join the party)."

The sequel to this one is called Black Friday! It’s more of a sequel in a different universe but it has the same actors. I also really recommend watching the trail to Oregon if you liked the guy with the long hair so much

I suggest The Trail To Oregon next, it's my favorite of theirs along with Spies Are Forever. Their genre parodies, as you've seen, are definitely the best.

The army tricked him to find out what Paul wants, because the Alien uses what they want to infect them. "Emma I'm sorry you lost... Your way" "Emma I want you...to join the party" "I might be inclined to... PLANT MY SEED..." Through the whole thing they kept trying to figure out what he wants and he didn't have an answer until he said that he wanted more with Emma.

The Guy Who Didn't Like Musicals is my favourite Starkid musical, and one of my overall favourite musical! Team Starkid have made some great shows! Highly recommend Twisted as well!

As someone who doesn’t have enough money to pay for musical tickets, I actually appreciated that Hamilton was mostly song. I listened to some songs from other musicals, but I had no context because I couldn’t watch the musical. The only way would to get context would be from someone explaining it (which might be explained poorly or incorrectly) or from a pirated version. Their musicals are on their channel, so this isn’t an issue for Starkid.

if you're looking for another starkid musical I HIGHLY recommend Twisted. Its like a wonderful cross of Wicked meets Disney and its honestly but super funny and emotionally powerful. Definitely one of their best.

I’ve watched this musical way too much because even though it was cut I still remember specifically that bill wanted Paul to tag along with him and Alice because Alice liked him and thought he was cool, which is really funny when you think about it since Paul’s an obvious nerd.

I highly recommend Twisted the untold story of the royal vizier. It’s made by starkid as well and has many moments that made me laugh but also made me feel some things

The actors playing Ted and Emma are engaged :)) Started is very cool, they started in a theatre club in college and turned it into a full production company, and put out a new musical about once a year or so (until the pandemic) for like 10 years, but has still made content through the pandemic :)) so many of these actors have been acting together since college

This came out two weeks after I've watched tgwdlm for the first time lmao, what timing! I wanted to recommend the band 'bears in trees' if you haven't heard of them! I found them through being recommended songs similar to lovejoy and I've been obsessed since!

This was great! Welcome to the Starkid fandom /hj. You should definitely watch the other musicals! Starkid has done a lot of them and you'll definitely enjoy them! Black Friday is set in the same universe as this one. They also have multiple Harry Potter musicals, Firebringer, Starship and Twisted to name a few. Each and everyone of them is amazing for different reasons. Definitely check them out if you want! One thing I cannot forgive though is you skipping over the "It is time. TO DIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE"! The single best long note in the musical and you skip over it! How dare you! /lh I was looking forward to your reaction to that one, but oh well I guess Edit. Wait- you skipped over Showstopping Number as well? That is it! Where are the pitchforks!? /j Edit 2. This is basically a game of try not to sing in musical theater form

I would absolutely recommend Spies Are Forever, it's a musical made by the Tin Can Brothers and has a lot of Starkid actors in it, it is kind of like a James Bond musical and it takes place in the 1960's, it has Joey Richter and Lauren Lopez who you saw in this, and if you watched A Very Potter Musical, the guy who played Voldemort and the guy who played Quirrel are amazing in it. I'll just caution that the villains in the show are Nazi's and it can be quite uncomfortable at times. The soundtrack is amazing and it's so dramatic, would absolutely recommend a react.
