As someone who did watch the show and read the manga... I liked the movie! It's pretty faithful and creates a fantastic chemistry between Ichigo and Rukia. Some stylistic flourishes like the little cards introducing the characters are straight out of the early manga chapters too. And there's tons of even tinier details, like, see Ichigo's room at 4:30? See that hanging T-shirt for band Bad Religion on the left side of the frame? Yeah that's because at the end of each chapter Kubo dropped a character sheet for each character, including a "theme song" that represented them, and Ichigo's is Bad Religion - "News from the Front".

For future reference, Kubo's name is pronounced Tight-o

Yes, Ichigo and Rukia's relationship is like that too in the manga/anime. They bicker, they tease, they comfort eachother, protect one another, they are each other's rock to lean on when things get shaky. Especially for Ichigo, there were multiple times in the manga wherein Rukia had to leave, and it left him distraught. Anyway, in the anime/manga, Ichigo doesn't actually meet Byakuya and Renji not until after he defeats the Grand Fisher hollow and has established a deep friendship with Rukia (who, at this point is his ride or die). When Byakuya and Renji showed up, they forcefully had to take Rukia back and left Ichigo for dead. Rukia is then imprisoned for her crime, and is sentenced to death. Meanwhile, Ichigo finds a way to get to soul society and determines to save Rukia, even if that meant he had to fight all the Gotei 13's captains and their lieutenants. And yeah, he ends up with Orihime and Rukia ends up with Renji. Lol

Introducing Kon (the bear thing) would have been too much worldbuilding and time lost of Rukia and Ichigo bonding. The status quo being upheld is due to the nature of the story. In the anime, Rukia gets taken to be executed and Ichigo is thrown into a training arc with Urahara and then the giant Soul society arc starts. Ending it in the way the movie did made it nice and finished with no need to make a second movie, it’s just a lil taste test of what Bleach is.

Me and my friend watched it on a whim, we both grew up with the anime, I read the manga all the way to the end. And we actually kind of liked it, it had its own thing going on and we liked that it had kind of an original ending

Byakuya wanted to have her executed not to save her from the execution. The ending in the movie would be a bit confusing uf you didnt know the whole plot.

that Kamen rider to Doctor Who comparison is not inaccurate. Also fun fact, Ichigo, Ishida, and Orihime's actor all play in the same Kamen rider series with the exact same setup. Sota Fukushi became the MC, Ryo Yoshizawa became the second lead/rival, and Erina Mano became the love interest. Idk how much does the casting director love kamen rider but it's gotta be affecting the cast decision.

I think the ending was pretty weird for me too, it makes sense because that is what happens to set up the next arc, but I think it’s weird how they went about it, the whole grand fisher fight was before they even met renji and byakuya so when they actually showed up, rukia was taken back immediately and ichigo got his ass whooped. I think the movie tried to find a way to make the ending faithful to the ending of the arc but it didn’t make much sense since they already met each other and rukia got to stay.

I did the exact same thing years ago Literally just found it on Netflix and I didn’t know what bleach was at the time. Isn’t the best live movie, but at least it tries to do it’s best😅 In conclusion: It’s aight

I really enjoyed this movie! When I watched it. It was being advertised so much when I visited Japan in 2018 before it had came out. Kamen Rider Fourze was my first Kamen Rider show seeing Sota Fukushi, Ryo Yoshizawa and Erina Mano together in the same thing again was nice. It’s also one of the many recent say within the last 15 years where manga/anime adaptations featured an Kamen Rider actor. Takeru Satoh probably being the main suspect it seemed like at one point he was basically in every single one.

I watched this while on vacation with my sister, with us both being major Bleach fans. Some things really disappointed us, like the lack of inclusion of side characters like Uryu, and the overall rushed plot, but the fight against Grand Fisher and against Renji and Byakuya were really good. Oh ya, and the memory loss ending was really dumb. Oh ya, and the joke with Ichigo dead wasn’t in the show, but a reference to it was there where, like, his family thought they were hit by a truck, because soul reapers replace peoples’ memories and whatnot.

Big spoilers about the beginning of Bleach and Ichigos powers: The ending makes no sense, in the anime Rukia goes with Byakuya while Ichigo still has her powers willing to be executed because a soul reaper is never supposed to give a human their soul reaper powers. Ichigo tries to stop them but is almost killed by Byakuya, even though Byakuya is Rukias in law he still wants to have her executed simply because it is the law, the guy in this film with the green and white hat saves Ichigo after he's almost dead. Ichigos body not being strong enough to hand Rukias power makes no sense, in the anime... Ichigo is actually a human, soul reaper, quincy, and a hollow all in one. His father was a soul reaper, in other words this means Ichigo has soul reaper powers (his are MUCH stronger than Rukias powers) Ichigo just didn't awaken them yet. All this stuff about Ichigos being too weak for Rukia to take her powers back makes no sense.

Ahhhh hahaahah they backed out of doing the Soul Society Rescue arc even though that's the peak of the entire series. Gotta love live action adaptations. Great vid Damien!

People kinda looks past some detals and interpret things in romantical context quickly, though understandably so since most stories falls into that. Like the first banter Ichigo and Rukia when Ichigo disrespects her, Rukia retorts to Ichigo by pointing out Ichigo is juat like a kid to her, like a teacher scolding a kindergarten. To have a semblance of comparison to Rukia and Ichigo's relationship, it would be like Araragi amd Hanekawa minus the the horniness. Its more of a You saved me and I save you type of relationship. Its a deep bond since you the other your life, bit its not necessarily romantical.

The ending will make more sense in the actual anime because it’s different in the movie since they only have 2 hours to work with

I am not exactly sure what the movie ending was going for Since in the anime ichigo looses rukua powers due to byakuya breaking one of his soul chains and rukia leaves with byakuya Than the next arc is ichigo and his friends training ichigo gets his own shinigami powers How? With the help of urahara aka the guy with the bucket hat his very importent Honestly this would have been better if they ended it with the fight against the menos or the fight against grand fisher(happens before the byakuya and renji thing) Grand fisher was very importent to ichigo as a character as its the hollow that killed his mother(due to ichigo being stupid as a kid his mother sacrificed herselfcto save him from grand fisher attack) this being removed from the movie made no sense to me

I just watched the movie and I know some of the anime , and actually I think ichigo thought that rukia was kidnapped cause when she wasn't at home than where would she be ? And that s based on my thoughts too , I thought she was kidnapped to be executed and maybe ichigo thought so too that s why he said liberate her

As a manga reader & anime watcher, the live action leaves out a lot and I mean a LOT of things out, the characters aren't fully fleshed out in this movie ofc as expected, if u read the manga (which u should) you'd see the many things that were done differently, please check out the manga as Bleach has much more towards it

I actually watched this movie back when it came out. I ordered it back when netflix sent DVDs to people's homes and I don't think I ever sent the DVD back. It actually isn't the worst live action movie. Personally I think the best live-action anime movie is the original death note live actions from like 2006

Please watch the Gintama live action movie or the Jojo Rohan live action TV series next! They’re amazingly odd. You’ll actually like them. Especially the Rohan live action series.

I think the filmmakers had hoped that the live action would perform well enough that they’d get a sequel that would finish the plot nicely, but the movie flopped and they never got the sequel. Personally it’s not the best nor the worst live action adaptation I’ve seen. Hana Sugisaki is a great actor, Sota Fukushi’s performance was quite wooden but at least he’s got the looks, the cgi is actually quite impressive considering the relatively low budget the average Japanese movie has, and the choreography and sequence of the fighting scenes are good.

let's be real, most live action adaptations for games/anime/whatever r pretty mediocre, but even though this movie wasn't flawless, it was pretty damn good for an adaptation. one thing i didn't like was the cgi for renji's zabimaru nor the grand fisher, but everything was solid, loved uryu in this film

Anime/manga Bleach😊🤗 Live Action🤢🤢🤢

Im a massive fan of Bleach the anime and manga and I have a particular fondness for Season 1 of the anime which this movie covers… and I find the film to be nearly as bad an adaptation as The Last Airbender was to Avatar. Basically Season 1 was for the most part a great episode of the week show with a new monster or conflict Ichigo faced. The movie decided to try and cram an entire seasons worth of stories that were perfectly paced and built up. Its a bit of a chop suey of several different characters and episodes mashed into one 2 hour story. Hence why Uryu (glasses guy) feels out of place. He’s a character that becomes a bit of a minor antagonist after Ichigo has had several different battles against Hollows. These individual stories also centered on and built up other characters like Chad, Orihime, even the other classmates like Tatsuki, Keigo (annoying guy), that culminated in Uryu’s antagonist arc (where several characters also fight hollows and show they developed powers by being around Ichigo and Rukia). Renji and Byakuya dont appear until after Uryu’s arc and thats when Rukia is taken back by force to Soul Society. All in all… it was not a bad attempt. But even Tite Kubo once said that Bleach was the type of story that works best in 2D as manga. The anime was the perfect adaptation not only for being 2D but also for being able to alter and enhanced the manga especially where in places it was lacking (giving more emotion and episodes to events to be built up rather than have abrupt story changes). In live action it just feels like people cosplaying as the characters who look absolutely ridiculous because these designs, fighting styles and powers, and personalities all work best in manga and anime.

So the ending of the movie isn’t accurate to what happens in the anime. In the anime when Renji and Byakuya come to get Rukia, Byakuya fucks up Ichigo and they just leave to the soul society for Rukia to be executed, none of this bullshit. Ichigo doesn’t lose his memory. Instead Ichigo goes on like a training arch with bucket hat (as you called him) to get stronger and he goes to the soul society to save Rukia. Big arch where he fights top ranking soul reapers and shit, which honestly I think is cooler then what happened in the movie, but to be fair they would’ve had to condense like 3 or 4 seasons of the show into one movie which wouldn’t work.
