This episode shows clay is also the cause and effect because of his parents bad parenting. Clay suffers from the sins of the mother as well, the drinking and smoking habits. Of course later on without bloberta in his life he was fine but they somehow managed to get to you one way or another. Clay knows he’s responsible for his mothers death. His father just didn’t know how to be a good father. Cause he didn’t get the chance to be one over and over. It also explains his oedipus complex. Clay is the most broken man in moralton. 30% of it is not even his fault, but it was enough to plant the seeds of chaos into his life.
@TC-th1ey5 ай бұрын
Prior to Bloberta meeting Clay he didn't seem interested in socialising or helping/harming others. He seemed content and didn't interfere in other peoples lives. And here we have it. The foundation that helped turn Clay into what he is: 1. It really shows how incredibly isolated and ignorant the people of Morelton are that Clay's mother literally didn't know that you shouldn't smoke, drink and be *minimally* phisically active while pregnant. Her subsequent babying of Clay basically stunted him emotionally. 2. His need to have the attention of a parental figure, which is what caused him to antagonise his father, turned him into a mess once his father realised that hitting Clay was having the opposite effect. 3. "Clay did this to himself" is the perfect way to sum up his character and its why this backstory is so important. Clay knows that it was his dumb decision that resulted in his mother's death and his father despising him. Its basically the crux of his self-hate

After getting beaten half to death by Orel is the only time he doesn’t hit him as a punishment, and Orels response of assuming it’s because clay is giving up on him is so heartbreaking and the closest we get to see clay actually be a good parent. The way you can clearly see the moment it clicks for Clays father too, that he picks up “oh he wants this” and then leaves. And Orel disappointing clay on purpose by denying him violence in claiming he didn’t shoot the bear. Clay never hitting shapey for his behavior the way he does Orel because Orel is actually his. I believe it was the emotional toll of Clay's mom's miscarriages that pushed her farther into bad habits (drinking and smoking) and this also put stress on Clay's dad, who had to have been aware of what was happening, and it slowly pushed them further and further apart, and when Clay was born his mom spoiled and coddled him, and Clay's dad's disapproval of this led to the straining his relationship with Clay (and it was sealed with his mother's death) and further kicked the dead horse of Clay's parents' relationship.
@vaporkay78315 ай бұрын
Clay only did what he did because his mother coddled him to a point where either he was loved or he wasn't. If the focus wasn't on him or if she showed love to someone else, then he isn't loved. Once they started going back over pictures of previous siblings, he realized his Mom loved those kids as well. And as I just mentioned, if she shows love to someone else, Clay takes that as him not being loved so he goes to the extreme to get that love back. However, after that many miscarriages, I believe any mother would coddle their only living child to that degree. Then again, she caused the miscarriages herself by smoking and drinking. This is one of the episodes that show life is just fucked up in Moralton, every action, no matter how small or long ago, has effects on the town and its people to the present
@cholanrajendran12075 ай бұрын
Clay is responsible for his actions but his narcissistic behavior from childhood itself is because his mother coddled him and his dad never bothered to intervene. He was made this way and then made the choice to double down.
