Solo hike along the Lockett range to camp beside Ruby Lake in Kahurangi National Park. First time out using my full light weight gear load out which performed very well. The Nemo Hornet Elite OSMO tent is an absolute joy to use and I am extremely happy with it so far. This was a great camp and the hike in was incredible. Enjoy.

Great solo adventure man! We jumped in off the rocks on that left point. Clearly saw two shoals of whitebait swimming past in the lake! That was in January few years ago, would have been much colder for your swim. Tent looks perfect for that trip.

It’s pretty nice up there although the walk in over iron hill seems a bit much for an overnight trip. I reckon you could pretty easily make it up from the Cobb valley. Yeah the tent is awesome love it so far

@@AbelandVictoria yes that route could be worthwhile, far less walking distance. We were on a three day trip via iron hill to lakes lille, diamond ruby lockett etc. We felt like heading up cobb this weekend but its tad moist.

@@kanehartill4178 there is a lake on the way out to mt Snowden that is unnamed. My brother went there last summer said it was incredible spot. I think I’ll go there for a mission the ridge looks intense from kakapo peak though. Have you managed to get out on a camp lately?
@kanehartill4178
@kanehartill4178 Жыл бұрын
@@AbelandVictoria no camps since iron lake! Visiting that lake looks like a cool mish. The ridge is pretty craggy is it. I've always thought it would be ideal if there was a track from Fenella down the Waingaro to link the Cobb to the Anatoki area. Then could hike tracks from Anatoki to Karamea or Courthouse flat. You have your summer pack pretty much optimised now eh... Be interesting info for viewers if you could weight it at start of video.
@AbelandVictoria
@AbelandVictoria Жыл бұрын
@@kanehartill4178 going from lonely lake hut up past drunken sailor then down the dragons teeth low route to Anatoki river then short walk down the river to the anatoki forks hut would be a pretty nice way to go. Doc could pretty easily make a little track to link that up. I wouldn’t might going into bush for a week and making a track like that would be fun. I’ll try and remember to weigh my pack next trip. I’m tempted to get a little titanium wood burning stove thing for summer. Be super light and relaxing to use

Beautiful video, brother! I'd love to get down to New Zealand someday. I've thought about coming the trips that my friends and I go on, and I love the cinematic look that you produce. Can you give the bare bones description of what you did here? Seriously well done, just beautiful.

@AbelandVictoria Жыл бұрын
Thanks man. What would you like to know?
@jbrown2099
@jbrown2099 Жыл бұрын
@Abel & Victoria I'm a complete novice to videography. To get a more cinematic look, do you use frame rate (30fps?), a filter in post- production, both? I'm sure the quality of the camera probably has much to do with it as well? I guess I'm trying to learn how someone differentiates a nice, high-resolution video from something like your video that looks like well produced, documentary quality video. I appreciate any direction! Keep up the amazing videos!
@AbelandVictoria
@AbelandVictoria Жыл бұрын
@@jbrown2099 I don’t really know much either lol. I just learn as I go. I do 24p and try to set up the shots nice. I use Sony a7c which is a decent camera. I don’t do any colour grading but have tht camera set internally to produce a kinda graded look.

Fantastic channel mate. I'm glad I found it. How do you find that tent? I'm looking to find a nice summer tent and was looking at that model but it does look a bit anemic. How does it handle NZ conditions in decent rain/wind?
@AbelandVictoria
@AbelandVictoria Жыл бұрын
Thank you. The tent is definitely sacrificing strength to reduce overall weight. I wouldn’t want to have it up on the tops if some bad weather was coming in. If you can be a bit more picky as to when you head out on trips and can be sure of some decent weather the tent is very lightweight and still had the benefit of being double walled and a side access door. I am 185cm tall and about 88kg I find it to be plenty big enough. It’s a pretty specialist tent really and not for everyone. But if you want super light weight and still have some nice liveability features it’s definitely a good option. I love it so far.

Great video, another place to add to my list when I'm fit enough. Aside question; do you find shooting these adds much time to your walk? I ask as you have lots of shots of you walking to / from the camera, etc

Yeah it’s definitely a worth while trip. Beautiful spot. As a percentage of total time not that much. I don’t walk huge distance away from the camera as I see some other people doing in videos. I use setting up the camera as a time to rest a bit. I’d say the extra bulk and weight of all the filming gear is more impactful.

this is a strange question maybe, but, do you ever struggle internally with the documentation process of journeys like this? like do you have internal tension over setting up the camera just to walk past it multiple times on a hike and how it pulls you out of the moment? because there's the element of contrivance? or do you take the whole thing in stride in a certain way rlly curious, it's just something i think about a lot lately as i'm getting into photography/video making and backpacking myself
