Amazes me that the government talks a lot about sustainability, yet turns a huge blind eye to tonnes of brand new building material being ripped out and put into landfill each year! Also urgently need to make inspectors independent of builders and accountable when approving these schmozzles.

The fact they didn’t slap some paint to cover the graffiti before putting up the fence says it all. Shamozzle! They should have an independent supervisor inspect the site every 3 weeks or so to catch any non compliance before they go too far. That would save on insurance claims and law suits in the future, fines should be attached. That way the builder has a direct financial reason to do the job properly, rather than rely on insurance which only results in higher premiums for us all. If they can’t do it properly then they shouldn’t be in business.

It is common with an independent supervisor in Scandinavia. He/she will often do an update on a weekly basis and especially for each section during the construction. Ive seen 20 windows that was put in place with expanding foam (isnt uncommon and is does work) but the builders managed to smear it on the frames of the windows. The windows were powder coated so they all had to be taken out and sent to a painter, since you couldnt just use a brush as that wouldnt leave as nice a finish as the coating. Oh and one of the apprentices went inside the house wearing his workboots just after all floors were done - he scuffed some of them juuuuust enough that the supervisor wanted it rectified and new flooring put in. It can be strict - often very - but I get it especially for the visual things. If the customer pays for a high quality very pretty floor you cant handover something thats scuffed already. I feel so disgusted about how these houses in Australis is being built and how insane it is that people just sort of go with it.

This is what happens when waterproofers can be anyone doing it. Waterproofing should be recognised as a trade and all waterproofers should be accredited and have proper training like I did. It was 3 months of training I did before I did my first waterproofing job on my own. It is the single most important step in wet areas and external preparations on buildings and homes that will be exposed to water,moisture,or the elements.

I think that anything outside of basic labouring like digging a hole or moving wood should be a year supervised especially something as vitally important as waterproofing. Some of the young fellas I worked with/trained at a boat hire would absolutely not be competent at such an important job after 3 months. Some would have been fine after a few weeks of training but they were very rare.

A lot of what’s not stated is this , a lot of builders risk manage specific trades like tiling , and they are responsible to warrant work to builder not always but a lot , then not knowing basics occurs ? I been in jobs were the tiler doesn’t even prime walls for tile glues and waterproofing which cost money so I won’t do attitude and possibly do not no ! Reason is if you do a trade in tafe , each job like tiling is on proficiency and competence before you pass , honestly the industry skills are told to upskill not down skill in paid money licence without testing knowledge , it’s this easy , go do labour ing and take pictures of others work in all trades then network to find a Matt John’s RPL provider pay cash tick the boxes then passed a tradie ? Wtf ! Here’s another example ! I want boat licence , go pass test on computer then need to do 100 hr , find a sign me off person and pay and have a license ! The education system is so manipulated to provide shortages in trades , I love seeing people having a go and trying to do the best job with what’s been provide , pride in one’s works lost to old school tradies unfortunately .

I watched a house being constructed locally here in Cranbourne, It was just a small house in a small yard, yet it took them well over a year to build it, cause at each stage the builders had to go back and fix issues that should not have been their to begin with. Flooding/drainage, leaking roofs, guttering, black mould (multiple times) and many other issues like not even following the blue prints correctly. All these problems were all found and had to be dealt with before the occupants even got to move in. This example did not give me great confidence in the quality of new homes being built today.

Biggest frustration for me in the past was buying existing. Asking an arm and a leg for "fixer uppers" and the "ready to move in" places were absolute dogshit. I ended up bidding on a joint with two "new" bathrooms, skirting board on the walls outside was blowing out because of water transfer, place still went for more than 100k i was willing to pay. The bigger issue seems to be desperation, a home is a commodity before anything else these days and people are terrified that they will be left behind.

Some advice though, I know you are trying to be helpful to the other property owners by highlighting defects but you should refrain from providing advice or inspections on properties where you have not been appointed as your Professional Indemnity Insurance will not cover you as you have not been appointed or received payment for your services in return for the advice. @falchoon thank you. Tract housing is a type of housing development in which multiple similar houses are built on a tract of land that is subdivided into smaller lots. Tract housing developments are found in suburb developments that were modeled on the "Levittown" concept and sometimes encompass large areas of dozens of square miles.

All inspector's should be fully independent of the builders. Somehow, I think the word will spread around the estate. Hopefully, the builder will rectify all the townhouses and not just for the ones who contacted him.

One of my biggest concerns with all thses high density town houses is sound transmission through walls, not heard it mentioned yet in your videos (sorry if I missed it if you have). How thin and poorly insulated are the party walls when they can't even get a shower cubicle right?!. Noise transmission can course great mental stress and lead to neighbourhood disputes😢

Another great video showing how shonky these builders are - nice work mate I've learned heaps watching you over the past year. Not detracting from the content, but something odd I noticed at 00:24 as you pan around the jail wall at the back, on the 6th panel in there appears to be a large weird looking character imprinted into the wall (wavy hair, demonic looking teeth, beedy eyes) - is this just my phone I wonder...

Z flashing behind axon over the skirt tile, what would the order of trades be to get that accomplished? Then you would also need to sheet the bottom of the wall for the tiler to tile to. Some stuff is good in theory, but put it into practice

We don't have the waterproofing requirements for bathrooms like this in the US. Usually there isn't a problem to omit waterproofing the whole floor, but showers are frequently done badly. (Shower pans such as these would not be allowed though). To have these requirements even for powder rooms (no bath or shower) seems overkill, especially since so many builders are unable to get it right. New standards are needed to make it feasible, because clearly the code is not working. Your demonstration of balcony issues is great. This sort of exterior balcony over living space is not for unskilled builders. Knowing the nature of building trades, the designers should not give them such a challenge😆. And the design should not have roofs dumping dirty water right above the entry.
@h2s142
@h2s142 5 ай бұрын
This isnt true, waterproofing is required 36” past the shower perimeter and the shower is required to hold 10gals of sitting water. Code is different depending in municipality.

i've been wondering the same and your last point is very pertinent. the consistency of the issues he uncovers leaves me quietly appreciative of the UK's tendency towards using pre-made shower trays and having pitched roofs on homes.
@pcatful
@pcatful 5 ай бұрын
I think the complexity of some of these exteriors is needless and maybe beyond the grasp of the work force. As for the showers: We do have tile showers in California but they are designed more like a tub with a curb. Curbless showers have come into vogue but they have specific requirements in different jurisdictions to assure they can hold and drain the flow of water. They are not so flat and small as theses showers. (In a modest house like this, a curbed prefab pan IS best.) Where there is a curbless shower we do waterproof the whole room. A good point that is made in the Ausie standards is that the mortar and tile in the shower should have a waterproof break from the same in the rest of the bathroom. I pick up some good ideas here but I am leery of the general approach in these houses. @@peter-gn8ey
