Memes aside, OSRS fishing actually deserves its rank, or at least the one below it. -Numerous varieties of fish to catch and styles to use: Netting shrimp, Fly Fishing salmon, Lobster Pots, Trapping octopi in a vessel, diving underwater to scare schools of fish into Drift Nets, sending out a bird to Aerial Fish, coating a rod in snail oil to catch Lava Eels, Harpooning Sharks, or just grabbing Sharks like a barbarian with your BARE HANDS -The basic OSRS gameplay input is just point and click for many of these, but there's some techniques you use like Tick Manipulation for Sick Gains -Despite having an entire Cooking skill with numerous recipes for pies and stuff, every player always eats fish. No one wants to assemble a sweetcorn potato casserole when fish can be eaten whole in a single bite. The meta healing inventory is mostly Anglerfish and Karambwan (Octopi) -There's progression through leveling the Fishing skill, getting the Angler Outfit, upgrading to Dragon and Crystal Harpoons, and unlocking barbarian style -There's even a Fishing Boss Battle where you quell a raging typhoon elemental by launching fish at it! -Everyone has memories of lazy days fishing at Catherby or Karamja, listening to Sea Shanty 2. Probably someone mentioned but Genshin's housing has aquariums and fishing ponds you can decorate with fish you catch, too, which definitely took it up a notch for me. 😊

I would love to see more fishing minigames added to the list in the future. I enjoyed fishing in Monster Hunter World, FFXIV, and dark cloud for the ps2. Would also like to see where Dredge and Dave the Diver fall on the list.

I always give it up to my OG fishing experience, Link's Awakening for the gameboy. That fishing game had me coming back every time to clear out that pond.

Zelda Ocarina of Time - I think its the only fishing mini game I liked as a kid.

There are more fish in Breath of the Wild, each having different effects, but its still not really "fishing". If you want a Zelda with fishing, I'd reccomend Twilight Princess. Sadly it only has a handful of different fish, but you can use different baits and you can fish is several different locations. (Also, using the fishing rod in the final boss fight is fun)

One fishing minigame that comes to mind is Toontown's. It's pretty basic, there's small ponds all over the game world with piers around the edge. Standing on a pier starts the minigame. Several shadoes will move in straight lines from one random point to the next, chilling at a point for a few seconds each time. You pull back on a button to aim and determine power, and releasing casts. If your bobber touches a shadow at any point, you catch a fish. Fishing goes pretty fast. You can cast a lot in a short span and the only thing slowing you down is thr pop up when you actually catch a fish. But spamming casts is risky, as each one costs you jelly beans, the game's currency. You can only hold so many Jellybeans at a time, and your fish bucket holds 20 fish. If you miss too much then your trip to the fisherman to sell will be less worth while. And you've gonna wanna have as much fishing uptime as possible, as there are loads of fish to catch. The Peanut Butter and Jelly Fish, the Catfish that looks like an actual cat, The Star Fish that looks like Elvis, etc. They're all jokes, and each kind of fish has variants (Like Sismese Catfish vs. Tabby Catfish) the variants all look the same but have a unique collection slot and have different rarities and catch locations. And you're slightly incentivized to try and fill out your collection as every 10 will award you 1 max hp point (which can be hard to come by as you need specific quests to show up to get more). Not to mention there's fishing rod progression that sadly takes weeks to work through as you need to get a new shopping catalogue after buying your last upgrade to get the new one. But this enables you to find new fish, get better odds for certain tough fish, and generally make more jellybeans. And that isn't even including the weekly fish bingo events where every fishing pond becomes a cooperative experience to try and catch species to fill out a certain pattern on the card before the time limit is up, with a bingo awarding everyone extra jellybeans.

I think when it comes to Nier Automata fishing it is good to contrast it with the fishing in Nier Replicant which is a lot more involved and has it's own series of quests, whereas Automata is heavily simpler and mostly exists. This while mostly a downgrade really does contrast the two settings in how automata doesn't really have humans going around the planet to fish and get food for and instead most of what you catch is mechanical versions of fish and your pod does the work for you.

I like fishing in Sea of Thieves. The water and lighting are generally very relaxing and pretty combos, and while there's only a few fish, they do have specific spawning requirements like region, weather, and bait. Also there's 10 fish to catch, all with multiple variants (like glowing in the dark, for example). You can sell them to a specific vendor type, and they can't be stolen from you (unless you store them in a barrel or something). I like the minigame itself, and if it eventually evolves with more types of fish and being able to make trophies out of them or maybe even an aquarium, I'd love it. As it is, it's just a fun distraction, but I'd give it a C myself.

I think Sea of Thieves is a bit better than you placed it. There are a ton more fish than 5. There are actually 10 species of fish each with 5 different versions, & this isn’t even counting trophy fish. Each fish has different catch criteria ranging from what bait you use to where you are, some even have to be caught while in a storm or while fighting a skeleton ship. Also you can sell the fish to a vendor for coins & achievements. But I think the best thing about Sea of Thieves fishing is how it fits the game. It’s a good way to kill time while sailing, can be really good to have on hand in combat, or can be an achievement hunt.

Fish, such as groupers and coral trout, will send a visual signal to show other fish the location of a hidden prey. Together, they will catch prey at a higher rate than when hunting alone. Groupers don’t just cooperate with other fish. They’ll also invite octopuses to hunt.

Man I dont know if sea of theives fishing was different when you played but I LOVE the fishing it has. The fishing mechsnics are simple but can still feel intense when trying to catch rare fish. There are tons of different fish to catch that can only be caught in certain types of water or during certain events like storms or ship battles, you can cook the fish and sell them, and even get fishing specific ship/player cosmetics.

I have a lot of good memories of the fishing that was done in the various Breath of Fire games. Nostalgia bias for sure, but those will always be appreciated from me for fishing minigames

He’s wrong about Sea of Thieves fishing. There are 10 fish with 5 variants each and some are area or weather dependent. You can also turn them in for money and if I’m not mistaken reputation at sea posts. The real joy of the fishing in the game is just giving you something fun to do from place to place while not driving the boat and singing sea shanties with your friends.

Breathe of Fire 1/2/3 all have fishing. You can get some useful items for it.

WoW has the motherload of fishing content from what I remember, good variety of rare fish and quests across the world.

And of course there's roughly 5,000 games where the fishing is "wait for the circle to line up with the other circle and press the appropriate button." Torchlight and Fire Emblem: Three Houses to name a few. If you took the fishing animation in the background out, it has literally nothing to do with fishing.

FFXIV fishing is definitely something.

You don't have to mash, in animal crossing. If you press the button within the correct number of frames for the catch biting, you will catch it. The animation is to build suspense.

I'd like to add that the Yakuza Series had two mor fishing minigames throughout the series. There is the one in Yakuza 3, which kind of reminds me of Sea of Thieves(never played it), where you have to push the rod towards the same direction as the fish because otherwise the tension meter fills itself. When the tension is to high the line snaps and if the tension is to low the fish escapes. Reeling also has a influence on the tension. The rarest fish can take up to 15min to get caught. I like it Theres also the fishing minigame in Yakuza Kiwami and 0, which is one of the black blob and the mash the right button to reel in at the right moment, while the button to be mashed changes. It is ok. Also what I wanted to add is that the fishing minigame in NieR Replicant is completely different from NieR Automata. It has actual gameplay. You need bait(for the rarer fish you'll need smaller fish you caught as a bait, which I find interesting. You throw it in the water(or sand for the high level stuff) and wait a bit. Then you have to press the button in the right moment and the you have to hold your rod in the opposing direction of the fishes swimming direction. As you do that, their life goes down and the you catch it. Also this has a small sidequest in it, which gives you the possibility to even catch stronger fish. I like it even though it doesn't have the wide variety of fishable stuff like NieR Automata. To NieR Automata: 1. You can fish some weapons and a Pod at some places (weapons: iron pipe and machine head in the sewers and the Pod in the flooded city. I think at the beginning to the right) 2. I hate NieR Automata fishing because it is barely gameplay, but I still needed 6 hours to catch the Arapaima. Now I got the 100%. Never again.

BOTW you said there’s only one fish but um actually… lol I’m sorry for that. There’s a few more than just the hylian bass and their use is as cooking ingredients. I do agree tho there is no actual fishing involved, just collecting. I find that cooking with them, trying to make every single recipe and discovering every kind of fish kinda rewarding tho. That’s my opinion, not asking anyone to change their own personal tier lists

The Spearfishing Minigame in Yakuza 6 can be played anytime you're in Onomichi during the day. So while chapter 11 is a spot you can play it before the finale, You can play it as early as Chapter 4

You should try the fishing in Dark Chronicle/Dark Cloud 2. A ps2 rpg dungeon crawler that not only has a fishing goal in every single level of the game you can achieve, but also a completely optional side area where you can RAISE AND TRAIN THE FISH YOU CATCH AND RACE THEM. IT ALSO HAS GOLF.

FF XIV has fishing and I quite in-depth due to the usefulness of the fishing being used for cooking and other things.

There are only two games where fishing doesn't make me want to blow my brains out, Stardew, and Terraria.

In regards to Fary Cry, i feel like Far Cry 5 does fishing best as there's a whole leader board to climb with legendary fish to catch plus different fishing rods to earn to improve your fishing.

Dude, you didn't look into sea of thieves fishing at all. There are 10 species, which all have their own different variations. The fish are with different rarity, and theres a size difference as well. Some fish are regional, while only bite certain baits. There are sea water fish and fresh water fish. The rarest fish, which is stormfish, you can catch only while being in the storm, and theres always a possibility that thunder will hit you while you're fishing for that epic stormfish. There is also a guild, where you can sell your fish and level up with them called hunters call, but it gets very difficult leveling it up later. So theres a lot more to fishing in sea of thieves than you researched. Love the video but you should re-review Sea of thieves fishing.

Genshin’s fishing does NOT deserve anything more than a B and I am being extremely generous, I personally would rank it a C or borderline D+ Like cmon on the Mario Party minigame is a lot more fun! A MINIGAME!

I strongly recommend trying out FFXIV fishing, it is the only game I know with a full fishing 'class' and a huge fishing questline, spanning across the world and across 100s of types of fish! You fish using a large variety of abilities, like any other MMO class, and it is a really fun and in depth system. By far the most enjoyable fishing experience out there in my opinion :)

To clarify about Skyrim: You will need the latest version to officially fish in this game.

Sea of Thieves has 5 companies that reward you, and 1 of them only requires fish, so fishing is actually quite important! (But still super tedious)

If you want other fishing games I highly recommend Assassins Creed valhala, you can start fishing early on after the tutorial, different fishes for different environments, and different difficulties depending on the weight and rarity of the fish as well.

To me there are two types of Fishing in a game. There's fishing minigames And fishing mechanics. the difference is interactivity. NieR Automata, as much as I love the game otherwise, the fishing is BARELY a minigame due to the timing. A lot of games you just cast and everything after that is automatic RNG. Ocarina of time imo has the gold standard Fishing minigame by which all others are measured, it has casting, visible fish, reeling and the like. The only flaws are that you cannot keep the fish outside of the largest one that simply goes into an aquarium that denotes your high score. Ideally I'd want something that's similar to Ocarina of time mixed with FFXV, more Visible fish with a more forgiving line durability system, and of course FFXV level graphics.

Zelda OOT had the best and you sadly didn't even play it. Like I played it for hours.. sometimes I only started playing the game just so I can stand at the pond and try to get this large fish under the tree trunk. Like the Fish AI was great, you had to have patience and skills. Also the fish were persistent in the pond, as if they were placed by the developers. Basically you could walk around and try to catch specific fish.

OMG you have to cover Ark, even if its just as a short. Pole fishing, net fishing, spear/sword/fist, using dino mounts, crossbows, harpoon guns and explosives! Catch variety is on the lower end, but come on!

best fish in botw are the stealthfin trout. they look normal during the day, but nightfishing is where they (literally) shine! definitely needs a redo if you do a follow-up video imo :p
