Living ironically in Eurpe . Initially I was intrigued by @baldandbankrupt video in Lunik 9 and the movie Borat, ..I decided to learn more about European Gypsy culture and slums and what they're really like..So I learned Spanish, moved to Spain, and decided to start to enter slums and barrios all over the country to better understand this misunderstood ethnicity and culture. Join me on an adventure in a proper 3rd world slum in Europe to see how the local gypsies treated me as an American tourist.. Let's go!

Adventure Elliot is a bilingual travel vlogger (English and Spanish) with a particular interest in the Spanish speaking world. I enjoy taking adventures - big or small - and my goal is to show the Spanish speaking world 1 video at a time.
The goal of my channel is simple yet complex: I want to document and share authentic & educational content of anything related to Adventure Travel, Geography, & Language in the Spanish-speaking world. It's kind of a loaded topic, but it allows me to never exhaust my creative outlets. The truth is, I've always been extremely passionate about what I'm doing on my channel, but I never properly documented it when I started adventuring as a younger man in my college years. I've made over 150 KZfaq videos in both English and Spanish, and I have aspirations to make 1000s more. If that sounds interesting to you, join the community and follow me along the way.. After all, we're just getting started.

I'm sorry, I do not wish to be disrespectful or a hater or anything like that. But I don't get it? You seem to (pretend to?) be constantly flipping with gypsies? Why do you keep presentation gypsies as being "dangerous" in video after video? Calling the places where you go "an alternative reality". It is our reality. Yours and mine and everybody else's. I understand that you are from the U. S. I understand that you are rather young and make money out of it. But still? I do not get it? It would, honestly, be very interesting if you explained your weird fascination for the culture and your purposes for your audience as you, more or less, misses your chances digging deeper into the hows and why's. It is sad that you contribute to the mystification and the prejudices.

I am Spanish and I worked as a teacher in a school where maybe a fourth of the students were gypsies. It is definitely a complicated relationship between gypsies and payos (that is the term gypsies use to refer to anybody who is not gypsy). You should interview payos living near gypsy communities to get a well-rounded documentary on the subject. You are brave Elliot! I would not venture in those places unnecessarily, but you have cojones!

Look, I have friends who live in gypsy neighborhoods, as well as my sister. They are trouble. They are loud and try to rip off the payos. They say that if you are ripped off, it is your fault, you should not let anybody deceive you. You should make a second part of non-gypsies living in these barrios. That was Awesome , I am of Welsh Gypsy descendant though I am Australian, I am certain that Every city in the world has a slum area or a area of minimal income where the people there do it harder and tougher than the other half , their are certain suburbs in Woolongong, Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and Adelaide in Australia that would be No Go Zones to most unless you know what its about But in the end We are only people that try to live as happy and well as possible while doing as much as we can for Family and friends. I left the the worst suburb in our capital city after my 3rd daughter was born and moved onto 20 acres and raised my eventual 5 Daughters there, we had no town water or electricity and we were called/considered by people in Town as Blockies but we didn't care and we lived very much the way as the beautiful community of people on here. our community had around 25 families living on one 8km road on their 10 to 20 acre blocks of land in shacks, sheds and houses and there was always a party of some sort on someones block, we had a long cabin made of Block, logs and stone with a 3 walled kitchen ,living area as it was Cooler. My Kids are all adults now with their own kids (12 grand kids) and they all live in the City in not such a good area (to others) and now at 57 I do as well and every one of my Daughters miss living in the Bush 70km from the nearest town where we could live as we liked and party to as late as we liked, 95 people in a friendly community called Blockies,, I Don't miss cutting and splitting wood every day for the wood fired stove, hot water and fireplace though 😁

but with the right connections and certain fame and a certain cool funny social good-attitude you can go to gypsies as they will be very nice welcoming kind and extravertly openly accepting as guest and even allowed to filming some chickens they using for unfilmed illegal chicken-fights that in the shady undergroundcircuits are somewhat profitable its partly their living and while go there as youtube-guest😉.but normally avoiding this places at all cost is the best thing to do because accourse- it can be unsafe and as social-excluded people they don,t like intruders accourse except some invited or sympathic guests!i think that is the reason not any wokish animal-rights-activist want or dare pissing this people for violating the chickens because if you pissing this people their vengeance will be so worst that it is not worth to risking your own life for some chickens and even the spanish law tolerating it to some extent to not anger the gypsies!☠💀💀💀☠so this is to explain why europe let them go doiing their own things as they pleased as they living in their own inclosed traditional communities and if not bother them then they are good people atleast no great deal or trouble for society that they don,t care or want to interfere in reversed the society don,t want interfere with them to keep the peace, because they have their own somewhat paralel mini-societies rules culture and way-of-living and own bussiness for centuries and working well in europe because they want not integrate atleast the most of them so they staying gypsie, thus let them happily doiing their own gypsie-things and they are indeed good-musicians etc,is the best for everyone!i hope this american-guy can understand it!🙂

This was an interesting video -- shared it with family, and it was very educational. You had the right adventurous attitude. I will say, though -- it didn't tally when you said, "these are problems that can be solved by education...unlike St. Louis, South side of Chicago, Compton..." 🤔 That was an *oddly* specific listing 🤨, all with something in common, LOL. No, actually: education can solve these problems *everywhere*. Barrios in S. America have been improved simply by planting a community park. The way you know a place can be bettered, is if it has been better in the past, and a prime example is actually the South Side of Chicago (which I've done heavy research on, as part of my work in the past decade). It was actually a thriving & desirable metropolis not that far back -- during the Jazz Era (and yes, and I am referring to the exact area known as "The Black Belt"). ... before very selectively damaging government policies were imposed on them. References for the area's past boom: the University of Chicago's Library online, The BMRC's image collection, & The National Park Service's articles on South Side landmarks & history. All this development went down the tubes, following a certain nationwide trend exposed by journalist Alana Semuels of the Atlantic, in her article about another suburb -- different but similar -- Lincoln Heights. You'll find it a hugely relevant case study on how the deterioration of these places came about!

Hey Dolphin.. Thank for your constructive comment. Let me explain a bit. First of all, I never said "unlike," I said that neighborhoods like this are VASTLY different than marginal neighborhoods in the U.S.. Let me explain.. Anytime Spaniards refer to their "dangerous" or marginal neighborhoods/areas, they often make the funny comparison by saying "this barrio is the BRONX of Madrid" or the "Compton of Malaga".. Because they've seen the Bronx/Compton in movies over the years. They've also been influenced by hip-hop. Both places are marginal, but there are MASSIVE differences between them. So I've been fed those comparisons ever since living here and so it's always in my head when I'm adressing an anglo audience. Most marginal places have some things in common - high dropout rates, teen pregnancy, high unemployment, follow the masses mentality (join a gang or listen to your gypsy patriarcha), government housing that as a end result creates an environment or proper ghetto. Anyways, you're right - comparing Compton or South Side Chicago is kind of a ridiculous comparison because there's one MAJOR difference between any marginal/dangerous European hood vs American one - the violence and use of weapons/guns. At least in this particular neighborhood where gypsies live, there aren't any shootouts/mass shootings, so that's the biggest issuse already solved. Education and cultural enrichment can slowly change the problem of pollution and trash.. But when you have a city like Chicago or LA or NY, trash and sanitation come after the out of control gun violence. I think the Americas are beyond the point of no return - and that's why I would never enter south side Chicago alone and make a video like this. In fact, I'd rather do this in Latin America over the U.S.. I liked your comparison to S america with the community park, it's true.

Been there earlier this year for a few hours. Absolutely beautiful city. It is a pity that the locals have been displaced by tourism. Now I have been to the South Side of Chicago, never had an issue there and yes I am white. I think it helped that they knew I was working on the "beeper system" that they relied upon for communication.

While fleeing from the Turks the Romanis migrated from Pakistan and NW India into Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq, Turkey and other parts into the Middle East adapting Islam as their predominant religion. Others migrated much later into Europe. While the Romanis came from all parts of the Indian subcontinent their major migration was from Pakistan and a small portion of India.
