Join Alex in the studio for an insightful interview with esteemed couples therapist, Dr. Orna Guralnik. Orna explains what to expect in couples therapy, when it’s the right time for you and your partner to go, and why there should be no shame in working on your relationship. They discuss how to have healthy disagreements, what a “lived in” relationship looks like, and how there’s usually more to an argument than meets the eye. Alex even opens up and reveals things about herself and her relationship that she’s never spoken about publicly before including her decision to go to couples therapy. Then, Orna gives some of her best tips for how to communicate your wants and needs in the bedroom and what role sex plays in a healthy relationship. Finally, they talk about the psychology behind why people are drawn to toxic relationships and ultimately stay in situations that don’t benefit them. Enjoy!

the answer is that someone's behavior towards you reinforces your prior beliefs about yourself. if you have low self esteem, even if you imagine you have very high self esteem, and you respond positively to bad behavior, this low self image is reinforced. additionally, there is a sense of conquest if you are chasing or accepting bad behavior from a man, because you imagine if he can afford to behave this way, then he must have other options and is fine leaving you. this sense of detachment is actually very attractive and intoxicating, but once you are confident in your own desirability it will lose its shine

I wish Alex would have let Dr Orna speak more. I feel like Dr Orna’s perception of Alex probably changed a bit after this interview. In the first interview with her Alex was listening more to what Dr. Orna had to say and now she’s lucky to even get a word in lol

Nah because this is so important to hear. Everyone judges people in abusive relationships that stay. We don’t know how to leave. We have no one to leave too because the people that raised us are the reason we are in these adult abusive relationships. I can’t escape.

i had gotten involved in toxic relationships because i didnt know my self worth, not because i was trying to re-enact bad situations. psychoanalytical=outdated

That’s the point of psychoanalysis. Lack of self worth is rooted in trauma usually and you would have to analyze your psyche to figure that out.

It’s comfortable 🤷🏼‍♀️ pointless details lol my dad was skilled, technical and emotionless and treated me like a loyal puppy that he liked having tag along silently to see him fix things. That’s what I like. My hubby is needy, talks a lot and wants me to be his therapist and I’m just like... no. I prefer the cold 🥶 relationship. I wish my hubby would find someone else. I felt betrayed by my dad for saying yes to my hubby, saying it was gods will. Instead of respecting me to be the analytical loner I want to be. In my culture girls didn’t get to pick, I’m atheist now lol. Idk if that’s toxic more like... autism I guess 💀🖤 or maybe being the other side of my hubby’s journey to fix himself. If we divorced I’d forget everything about him. I’m not a narcissist I just, don’t have a need to care like that. Each person is their own responsibility.

The best comfortable and cozy podcast interview with Dr. Orna who took her platform slides shoes off and I'm obsessed with the celebrity who gets comfy and cozy, and I'm autistic about it every time.
