-Week 1- Leaving the USA for the first time was quite the experience! There were a few unexpected situations that resulted in altered plans. Overall, I was able to follow my planned itinerary. I experienced a bunch of different weather and seen things I'd never seen before. It was a wonderful experience and I greatly thank all of you that I got to meet and spend time with.

I love, love, LOVE the fact that you didn't just go around Copenhagen and see the stuff that people always see. You say Denmark, and many Americans seem to think that Denmark = Copenhagen and that's it. The fact you went so many places and saw such unusual things, was so nice to see!

Even on a trip to Copenhagen you can day trip to see other parts of the country. Mons Klint, Jagerborg forest, Fedensborg and Frederiksborg palaces, Vallo Castle, Kronberg & Helsingbor Street food, and Roskilde. Managed to see them all on a 4 day trip to Denmark and still have 2 days in Copenhagen

I got to do and see a awful lot but feel it was still a little too rushed. Future travels I plan to spend more time in each destination. That way I can experience the uniqueness of each place a lot more than what I get from just a couple days. But for my first time leaving my country, it was worth every bit. I really appreciate your insights! I’m a 73 year old American woman, originally from San Diego California, who has been living in Europe for the last 35 years. The first 10 I lived in the northwest of Germany and for the last 25 I have lived in Sweden with my Swedish husband. My husband’s mother was half Norwegian and Norway is one of our all time favorite places for vacation. Thanks for visiting Scandinavia!

Brilliant! As an American who has spent a lot of time in Europe and especially Denmark, it is very different than here in the States. I am sorry you felt ill on your first days. Copenhagen is one of my favorite places. I love all the bicycles. I hope you found your journey an adventurous one and you were able to see why Scandinavian life is so lovely and different. I am looking forward to your next video. If you return and we are in Denmark at the same time I would love to show you a few things in Copenhagen as an American because we would have a similar base to reflect from. I enjoy your content my friend.

Copenhagen is the capital of junk in Scandinavia, attracking all the losers in Denmark, in one little island, far from the prosperous mainland Jutland. Most factories in the city have gone bankrupt, and left are only a vast population of drug addicts on wellfare, and the thousands of gay men picking up small boys at the railway station, and the police doing nothing. My advice: dont bring your young teenagers to COPENHAGEN, as they may get offers everywhere.

Very cool that the dream finally came through, and while 2 weeks is not a lot to see 3 countries, this first video definitely makes it look like you made some good choices and found some variety. As a Dane I'll say you chose some good spots, and perhaps also some that you wouldn't have chosen without all of your research. As for the Oslo Fjord on a small boat... Well, that looked amazing! But then, Norway IS undeniably beautiful, and in my opinion perhaps the most beautiful of the three countries. Can't wait to see what you did next.

7:55 to 8:20 So true, around 100 miles out in the waters you pan to, the worlds largest naval battle, The battle of Jutland, took place. It was a little sad (for the viewers) that you did not have a shot of the two waters colliding at Grenen. I have been there several times and it is quite weird to see two oceans collide.

"...oceans collide..." is quite a bit of stretching the realities. Both of the sea areas named Skagerak ( in the west and north of Skagen ) and the sea area named Kattegat to the east are the same body of water - as an extension / continuation - of the North Sea.

Your thoughts on what ww2 must have been like, reminds me of some of my summer vacation spend on the West Coast. My father married a woman who grew up as a part of the German minority (in Southern Jutland). I remember one time where her and my father had some quite intense talks about rather or not we should take her father along with us on one of these vacations and go see some of the bunkers there with him. They where in doubt as to how he would react and if it went badly would they be able to help him - plus the responsibility of having 3 children with them. I went so well! And I got to see history come "alive" right there before my eyes! He fought on the German side so it was quite emotional for me (be raised with us being allied with USA and UK). Now in one of these bunkers they had tried to make it look like it would've looked in ww2 (mimi museum). To see him looking so intens at some of these things and every now and again go "I had one of those", "Yes yes, it was exactly like this", "I remember that" it was so intens! Probably the best history lesson ever!

Definitely one of the main reasons for this channel. Personal growth and trying to get a better understanding of the world, it's cultures & it's history. I couldn't have asked for a better first experience (even with the stomach issues) and it only fuels the desire to continue exploring and learning. Thanks for the comment & have a great day!

I've been following your journey to enlightenment for quite some time now, I believe that the greatest thing about it is to actually witness a slow change of mind about how things really are. That views can change and that everything isnt always what we thought they were. If everyone were as humble about their views and their beliefs as you are then I truly believe there is hope for us all. Thanks!

Nordic heritage I presume? Viking hasn't been an active profession for nearly a millenia, unless you mean that your grandparents were scandinavian pirates that somehow ended up in Canada less than a century ago

Almost 25% of all the bunkers from WW2 in Denmark have been eaten by the sea and are fully under the sea level. Others on the coast, like in France etc. were torn down and the materials re-used for reconstruction, but Denmark had no need for extra materials so they became a protected heritage. Most of the concentration camps there were setup during WW2 have also lost their buildings because they were torn down to re-use the materials. So the many bunkers still standing on the coast is an abnormality.

There is a somewhat more different story about the bunkers in Denmark. At some point after the war, it was decided to remove them. So how to do that. As you can see , they are build to last. First manual (machine) demolition was testet, but that had little effect. Then explosive was tried, but even with a fairly large charge, it only made a dent in them. So the main reason there are still about 6000 of them laying around on the west coast of Jutland, is that it is to expensive to remove them. Non of them are protected heritage. They kind of dont need to be as no one want to pay for the removal of them. So right now a couple of the biggest are museums, and the rest are slowly taken by the sea. Mayby in a million or 2 years, they will be gone....but I doubt it.

@@Fetguf That is true from the early phase. But most of the Atlantic Wall in France were demolished already by the 1970's, there are for example barely anything that resembles fortifications on the D-day beaches. In the 1950' s and 1960's a small project of the defense forces was to seal up various parts of the bunkers to prevent random civilians going into one and either getting stuck or finding some possible explosives inside. Which is partially why some parts appear to be sealed off more recently. The fear of the bunkers is sort of parodied in tve 1971 Danish movie of Olsen Banden i Jylland. By the 1980's and onwards various museums got permission to set up these small information inscriptions about some of the bunkers, like the ones in Skagen and Frederikshavn, and others straight up became museums. While not a preserveable sight like other historical buildings or monuments, you would most likely get into trouble if you just began smashing the bunkers out of nowhere today.

Fun facts: The bunkers was made by danish workers, there was not much work but the germans gave them around double the normal salary. So alot of workers came along way from home. It was part hitlers atlantic wall, bunkers lay from norway to France. Normandy bunkers was part of the same "wall". Also the bunkers are made from alot more % of cement than we use today, and of course reinforce by iron nets inside the cement. They cannot be taken apart becouse u know... German enginering. The cement is to hard. Also the Coast line moves, and the sea eats the land in West jutland. Which also make it harder they cant remove the on e under water. So some the bunkers also lay on the side and some of them even turn all the way around 180 degress. So when u walk in the u can see stairs in the ceiling. It is nearly always blowing from the West on the Westcoast, so the trees are pointing east, and sandunes are moving east over time. The sea is rough, some of the germans who like the location for vacation drown there every year. Locals know the sea is rough so they take more care.
