WELCOME TO ONE OF THE WORLD'S MOST ISOLATED PLACES - GREENLAND!
Today I arrived in one of the world's most remote villages, way out here on the rugged North Eastern shores of Greenland. It's called Ittoqqortoormiit (say that 5 times fast) and it's a fascinating place that feels like I'm on the moon!
Very few outsiders have ever visited this village because it's so remote, and I'm lucky to be one of them on board this Hurtigruten expedition!
Ittoqqortoormiit has a population of around 350 and the nearest town is thousands of kilometers away. The locals are called Inuits (the same ethnic group as Eskimos), and they survive from hunting and eating polar bears, walrus, seals, and whales.
Could you ever live here? Let me know in the comments below!

@@hugolafhugolaf you might think that, but hunter-gatherers like them sometimes move to different settlements and intermingle. the population is big enough (and so many people are coming to greenland each year as it gets better to live in) that interbreeding isn't as big of a problem as you might expect, same for the Sami people in Scandinavia

That's because the indigenous people of Greenland are Inuit background and culturally have a lot in common with the Inuit of Canada and Alaska. They're descended from the Thule people (a proto-Inuit people that are considered the ancestors of modern Inuit) that migrated from Eastern Canada to Greenland between 1200-1400AD.

@@tikomalven9716 Alcohol and a culture that doesn’t fit completely in “normal” culture. They have always been hunters. Living from day to day. But what is normal ? I’m not sure we are right. They have a beautiful balance with nature. The problems comes when they have to “fit in”. I’m not talking about everybody in Greenland. Extremely large country with a very difficult infrastructure and very few people. Google it and you will know. You can compare the problems with native americans. Same story. Denmark have tried to force Greenland to change. Just like in the US. I don’t know if you are from Greenland. Just want to tell you I love Greenland, the people and the nature.

@@tikomalven9716 I think you should ask people from Greenland bout that.I´m danish. Have been there many times - but I don’t know the inner soul. You can’t unless you are one of them. I’ve seen both. Poor and rich. But what is poor ? I’ve met so many happy people in Greenland. Some would say they live poor. Without ignoring problems in Greenland I would say many people could learn a lot from people in Greenland. It’s not simple. It’s a clash between two ways of living. I prefer the inuit way of living with nature. I my selves live in a forest part of Denmark. I go fishing, hunting and have my kayak. Live in a wooden house 50 km from a town. Love it her. But I also work in a big city - and love to go home :-) Where are you from ? Sounds Finnish ! Or Same !

Greenland is about to experience an economic boom-geologists have discovered massive deposits of stuff like uranium, gold, rubies, and rare earth metals. Also indications of huge offshore oil deposits. Whether this will benefit ordinary Greenlanders is the question, A vast country like Greenland (with a tiny population) would be overwhelmed by an influx of miners, workers, etc.

I thought it was because they didn't want people to go to Iceland so they named it after very cold place. Over time when people left Iceland to colonise other regions they wanted more people to go so when they arrived at what is Greenland they name it that so more people would come. The opposite of why they named Iceland.
