The thing though is that a fender professional strat costs the same ($1500) as a Gibson SG standard and they take about the same amount of money to make. The reason why Gibson custom shops are $4000 and up is because those are made to look at and be fancy play at home,stay at home guitars not really full on gigging guitars. Also, Might I add that from my experience, epiphone has had greater quality for the value than squier.

I was at the Gibson Garage last Friday (during NAMM) and Agnesi was walking a group of dignitaries around. That was kinda cool. I played a $4500 LP Junior that was very nice (duh), but I was way more interested in the Epiphones... which are really looking good now.

That EPI Uptown Cat you checked out is dead cool the all gold with the red top. They do a kind of surf green sparkle that I love. The cool thing are the PU' are Firebird PU that Joe Bonamassa was involved in to get them authentic. They sound very Burns like ...chimey and clean. You would love them. I do not see them in the 2021 catalogue. They might get down to 5 ish.

I’m glad you actually went to the Gibson garage after last weeks video Ryan, I particularly like your honesty that you’re not a Gibson guy which is cool, myself personally has never really been a big fan of Gibsons, obviously they do so fantastic and great looking guitars, I do like the look of a Les Paul and have played quite a few over the years but it’s never been a guitar that I’ve ever wanted in my range of guitars, obviously if I came into a decent amount of money in my life i would probably eventually buy a Les Paul or something else Gibson just to have in my collection of guitars but for now I’m totally happy with my Gretsch that I totally love and my Fender Johnny Marr Jaguar that are my babies and do everything I need them to. Thanks again for your video Ryan.

So great! On my way from Philly to St. Louis soon...Nashville may be a great place to stop and spend some $! I have most of the Gibsons that I ever expect to own. But wow! Even some of these Epiphones look great! Just fun stuff! Not collectable really, but can we all just have some fun! Thanks! I think visiting the Gibson Garage will really make my summer! My wife, not so much. Guitars are a great hobby. Sometimes you cant take it too seriously. Yea, get a few Epi's and Gibsons into your mix. Having fun is what counts. Great video dude! I really enjoyed that! I have a not so typical Gibson type Flying V .. the Epiphone Richie Faulkner Limited Edition... black with white pickguard, EMGs and a Stainless Floyd ... and I have two Les Pauls with nice matching tobacco sunburst flamed maple tops... . but they have 6" speakers in them yeah... the Studio Monitors! 🤪 Like you, I find it hard to want to spend rich guy kind of money most Gibsons go for... but you never know. I've got a few wanna be E-335 hollow body guitars, 2 Gretches and a Custom Deluxe D'Angelico, but have always wanted an nice, vintage style E-335... maybe some day? 😎🤘🎸

I am an Epiphone LOVER...I have a couple. The first one I bought was a used SG Muse. My uncle played a Gibson '63 SG Jr. I like the neck profile on it because it is slim. Next I bought an old 60 something Gibson ES125T with a P-90 in it. I got hooked on the tone. So I picked up the Epiphone GOLD GLORY with a P-90...fat neck! Then I found the Les Paul I special, with 2 P-90's...they are around $100 if you look hard. A Used SG Jr. can be had for around that same number. The REAL playing experience was the '59 Cherry Burst Les Paul I found at Guitar Center....on Les Paul's birthday. So. Now I have 6 Epiphones, a Gibson, 2 Squires and 2 Teles a lapsteel and a resonator

I have quite a few guitars and only one of them is a Gibson. It's a '67 SG. It's neck feels perfect to me. It has the original dog eared P-90's, which IMO is the best pickup anyone ever invented. The other guitars and basses are various makes. I like them, too.

I have a Gibson LP Standard 60s, and I also have a Fender American Special Strat, and I also have an American Professional II Telecaster. I love them all. But the Gibson is the prettiest, and the most acoustically resonant. I also have an Epiphone Les Paul Standard, and it sucks. I also have a Hard Luck Kings Tele, and it's not too bad. I'm borrowing a Suhr Strat, and I really didn't bond with it at all. I love the pro2 Tele, it's really awesome, but in the end . . . That Gibson is worth all the others combined, and then some, to me. I started on an Epi LP, so maybe that's why I'm so at home on it, idk. But anyway, I run a home recording studio (I sing every part and play every instrument and engineer and master every song -- totally self-produced, totally finished and professional content) for my channel, so I need all three, depending on what song I'm recording. Rant over!

I've had 3 Gibson guitars in my life. A 2008 Les Paul Standard, an Advanced Jumbo acoustic and a 2011 Melody Maker SG. The Advanced Jumbo is the only one that I truly miss having. I've had MANY Epiphones too. I have a 2005 Epiphones Masterbuilt DR-500P (I'll NEVER sell that guitar unless you're gonna cough up close to a grand) that I'll play against any Gibson Dove any day of the week. My other Epiphone is one of the new ES-335s in the Blueberry Burst which has supplanted my Player's Series Stratocaster as my favorite electric guitar. It's just ridiculously versatile and I think sounds WAY better than the Squier Classic Vibe Starcaster.

I had an 80s Gibson Explorer back in the day. Not my first electric, but before my first Fender. I played Teles exclusively for 10+ years before I bought an Epi Explorer. The neck on the Epi was so different from what I was used to, and I honestly don't remember my old Explorer ever feeling like the new one, but now all Gibsons feel like a shallow, "condensed font" D shape to me. I can't say if I just forgot the neck feel or what, but I really wish Gibson would make a Modern C or Oval C neck. Bolt-on while we're at it. So I can play it like I play my Teles.

I am interested in Gibson’s/Epiphone only for their Wildcat and 335 type offerings. Other than that, I haven’t much use for what they do. I’d rather have a Telecaster or a Jet than a Les Paul. Moreover, offsets are my main thing.

So for me, Gibson are absolutely the guitar I dream of but not necessarily what I'm inclined to purchase. I have 2 Gibsons and both definitely have their own personality. For me, their personality is my favourite because it comes with perks: easy to play, classy finishes, recognisable brand name and is always a purchase of investment. They are pricey tho, especially nowadays which is why other options are more open to me with the rise of fantastic built guitars for a more affordable price. The problem for me is if for some reason I don't like my cheaper alternatives I have immediately lost out and flipping a cheap guitar is difficult if the brand isn't desirable. When you purchase a Gibson, you already know what to expect, for me it's always going to be a guitar I play more often than my others and if I think it's time to replace one or change up with another, it's almost always my money back or a profit. It's like any big brand named guitar really, the only difference from my perspective is what guitar suits you. If you've played a big brand guitar that suits you, you're on a winner. If you're a collector though it's a different take obviously.

I bought one of my Gibsons for $600 last year. Same guitar as an LP Standard without all the things that make the price to up because they are time consuming and labor intensive, like binding and glossy finish. Gibson makes less expensive guitars than nearly every other company that makes USA made guitars, Fender, PRS, Dean, Jackson, Charvel, etc., and every single Gibson is made in the USA. Epiphone is more akin to a MIM Fender than a Squier because Gibson owns and operates the Epiphone factory.

Great video! I love what you say about there being room in the world of guitars for everyone. I started out with an Epiphone Les Paul because I'd seen my personal guitar heroes like Jimmy Page, Gary Moore and Joe Perry playing one. But my next was a Strat because it's such a different sound: they've each got their own character. Never could understand that "pick a side" mindset because no one guitar can do it all.

To me it's like saying, "Do you like Coke or 7up?" Well, they're totally different things.... and totally different companies. So I don't know how to answer that :) Gun to head, I own way more Fenders than I do anything by Gibson, but if I had to have one and only one electric guitar, it'd be a 335. When you play a Gibson the guitar does not sound like other famous Gibson players. When you play a fender , you can hear all the players who made the fender guitar famous. That's just my take. If I could get the slash, STP or Hedfield tone just by playing a Gibson maybe I would own one. But it just does not work that way for me. I can get pretty close to SRV or hendrix with my stratocaster.

Thats funny. I'm not into country, I'm 59 and when I grew up, my dad listened to country... Tex ritter....lol My point is I'm just not a fan. That said, Nashville might be the best place to go in the country for a bar/live music area. Great food, cool people, just don't go on the weekends. ITs nowhere near an out of the way silly idea to drop by Nashville and see a guitar shop. How about when you are in Nashville, check out the shop? Just saying.

Gibson just needs to lower there price point for there entry level models. Much like fender you can get a new duo sonic or a lead for like 600-700 bucks. So maybe not a les Paul or sg but I think they should do like a dc junior or something in a similar price point and then maybe have an sg or les paul for like 800 like where the strats start at. Not to mention that I’d you want a new slash les Paul you’re probably looking at over a thousand dollars out the door for a regular epiphone les Paul with a different finish and it doesn’t even have Gibson pickups in it. And honestly I think a big problem with epiphones is that Gibson made the headstock different like idk why they would do that like it’s there own company making the same guitars they’ve always made but it’s like they didn’t wanna be associated with it lmao like the Gibson headstock looks good but both the old and new epiphone headstocks just look goofy and it’s not very appealing when your still paying like 600 bucks for a high end epiphone and then you get this dr. Seuce ass headstock. When they made the maestro guitars hey had e same open book headstock and that’s the sole reason I bought my maestro acoustic cuz the headstock is such a good shape but i just don’t see why they would treat there own cheaper lineup of guitars as if there some Chinese copy that got sued for the headstock shape

“It didn’t light up the fanboy section of my brain” is the absolute best description I’ve heard. I appreciate the history of Gibson and how they revolutionized electric guitar. I think honey bursts and lemon bursts are gorgeous. However, when it comes down to it, Les Pauls are really heavy, really expensive, and too liable to crack at the headstock. I can look at them and appreciate them as art. But to own and play? I’m perfectly happy with my Korean-made BMG Special. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Too heavy? Get an SG. Too expensive? Get an Epiphone. Headstock cracking? As far as I’m aware that problem has been widely solved since the 80s. How hard are you whacking your guitars?
@jimherleva4541
@jimherleva4541 3 жыл бұрын
Too heavy? Do you have problems holding a baby or small child? Expensive? Maybe for you. Headstock? I have nine Gibson Les Pauls and none have had broken headstocks (3 are over 40 years old) so God only knows what you did to your Gibson's - if indeed you have ever actually owned one. All of these issues you have are "YOU" problems, not Gibson problems.

the thing is, Gibson is a huge corporate monster, a monster that refuses to accept opposition or criticism - you and other YT'ers can be won over easily with a few strokes of your ego and a trip to a secret room with stupid guitars 'worth' even stupider prices, if you hadn't rolled over, or they felt you posed a threat to them (ie by making better instruments at a fraction of the price) that's when their lawyers move in and lives and livelihoods are threatened with destruction and that's why we hate them - cos we love guitars and those who play and make them , we enjoy turning amps up and dancing , to me, the idea of spending an afternoon in a vault with Mark Agnesi in full on ass kissing mode is like a little glimpse into hell. I don't know, I don't hate Gibson or anything, but I don't understand why they should be so expensive. I get it from a marketing point of view, since they're a well known, historical brand. But, if you're a guitarist, pro or beginner, do you really need to spend $1000 of dollars on a guitar? Couldn't you get a well made guitar for cheaper? I have an Epiphone semi hollow, used for $400, and I'm quite happy with it.

Did you ask them about any efforts they are doing to fix that fragile Gibson headstock problem? Those headstocks lead into so much drama when they break (most often in shipping while attempting to sell them these days and then not having the money to upgrade/get a new one). I stopped buying Gibson until they fix that, I'm fine with that if they don't ever fix it, plenty of other brands out there.
