Yeah, Elvis asked for the song but Dolly refuse as Elvis' s managers asked for including credits in the song copyrights. Smart move on the part of Dolly as now it is reaping suxh high royalties for the song withoot ever having to split the money with the estate of Elvis.

I really do give credence to all 3 versions. I find something amazing, and moving, in each of them. While Whitney's is the most powerful and universal, i wont ever say it is best. But is sure is nice. They all make me melt.

Obviously, Whitney's version was the biggest selling version of this song, so the market in general decided which one they "preferred" by buying copies of it. The lyrics haven't really changed, but the melody line and arrangement of the song did change between this version, Dolly's version and Whitney's version.

You might not like it personally, but like it or not 9 times out of 10 the book IS better than the movie, a perfect example would be Lord of the Rings. Hollywood takes liberties and embelishes the original content and adds unnecessary fluff and glitz to appease the sponsers and pc crowd. Books tend to carry deeper messages and many plots left out of the movie that many fans are angry they left it out to add some unneeded crap in it's place.

@Bertoboy41... You're right. It's dumb to compare, but 90% of what we do as a human race is compare. Nonetheless, I like the 3 popular versions: Parton, Doe, and Houston. They're all wonderful. They're all produced differently. They're all sung by people that sing very well. I enjoyed this version!

Also, this version is the only shot I got at singing well at karaoke!
