honestly i think the difficulty falls into play of simply how persistent are you with going directly against the grain. i never allowed myself to think that achieving a fade is mainly up and down. everyone has their own way of doing things. me personally i get clients like this all the time in the bay area but have no issues getting blurry fades by simply using the comb instead of a brush working my angles against the grain.

you would have got done a lot sooner if you tilt the head to the opposite side to make those divots flat. for the middle have them tuck their chin in then use lower gaurds

Just because you could do something doesn’t always mean you should. Could he have gotten a low taper??? Of course. But it wouldn’t pop in this situation because the client doesn’t have prominent c-cups. Find a weakness and turn it into a strength.
