Chris from Battle Armor contacted me really wanting to come show me (in person) some of his products. I was happy to check them out, so he came up here a few weeks ago and walked me through three of Battle Armor's products. We'll cover the brand new forks, a disc for an ATV, and a culvert cleaner for a backhoe or mini-excavator. There really is just so much innovation out there, and it's fun to be a part of it all.

I purchased one of those discs a few years from a different company. And tried to play around with it on my Polaris Ranger 570. And it broke my welds on my 570. I tried like he explained with the shallower depth first and it just wasn’t cutting it. So I moved it down by 1 slot and almost ruined my receiver. But I have to say it was the size of the smaller size he has to sell. The bigger one I would think has better weight distribution. Great idea for sure. And definitely affective. But just be aware of the damage it can cause on your machines. Oh and by the way, I was only going no more then 3-5mph range. As far as the other products they look really practical. And ingenious ideas!

I also have a Ranger 570 and the weak spot is the way Polaris attached the receiver. Before I even used the disc I had a buddy put some vertical support on the hitch of the Ranger. My son had used one on a Polaris before and noticed it bent the hitch upwards after a short time using it. It does put a bit of strain on the hitch and needs some reinforcement on the Polaris because of the design but it works great afterwards. He used it on other brands with no issues so it is just the way the Ranger hitch is made. Will support plenty of downforce just not much the other direction!

As always, I enjoy your videos. I only have two acres, maybe six when I help out my neighbors on either side. My two machines are a JD E130 riding mower and a venerable Bob Cat 453 Skidsteer. My thought when you were showing the disc unit was to put a 2” receiver in one of my buckets to accept the disc unit. To me it sounds like an interesting concept for a couple of reasons. 1. I can see what the unit is doing, since it is in front of me. 2. I can use the machine’s hydraulics to change the depth of the disc easily for a fat old guy. The things I don’t know is 1. Can the disc be pushed or does have to be pulled or is this just a dumb concern from a non agronomist? 2. I don’t think the dust generation is any worse than my loader operations in one of the five windiest places to wind surf in the world, according to some publications, another bit of windy proof is over the last 30 years my land scape has become dotted with extremely large wind powered generators, that at one time caused problems for the radar at our near by Air Force Base. My thought is the $500 unit might be an easier sell to my CFO than a $40,000 subcompact LTB with attachments. I already own the Bob Cat. I am thinking this concept might be a good way to control tree seedlings that plagues my neighbors and myself. My CFO is very tight with the money, I suspect I am not the only husband on Earth with that malady. However she is my best friend so I have to be entrepreneurial when figuring out how to get “essential “ tools to do the things I want. I always seem to discover the down sides of my “fabulous “ ideas after purchasing something because insufficient research. In the Marines, I learned that if the way seems too easy, expect an ambush. I also discovered that it is easier to avoid ambushes than to fight your way out of one. So, the point of this dissertation, asking the expert, would the disc unit function well on my cute and adorable 453 Bob Cat Skidsteer. As always, I enjoy your videos, I have freed up my juggler vein for people to rip into. You can’t hurt my feelings, I used to hold the flashlight for my father, spent four years in the Marines, spent 48 years in the Fire Service as my major source of income. Now I just do what the little voices in my wife’s head tell me to do. I will close this filibuster to cease negatively impacting electrons. Respectfully submitted

Very cool idea. Especially if you have a pinned on bucket or limited trailering space. I was reading on your site that the forks are only rated for 2000 pounds. Probably around $3000 shipped. That seems like a ton of money for such limited capacity. I don't see this as faster than swapping attachments. It's much slower imo.
@itguy1560
@itguy1560 Жыл бұрын
It is a cool idea for someone that doesn't want to swap out attachments and also doesn't have to lift anything very heavy. The 2000 pound limit is a show stopper for me. I have a Kioti tractor and I have the pallet fork attachment for it. The weight limit for the forks is 4400 pounds. Looking at how that Battle Armor attachment works, it seems to lose about 4 inches of the fork length due to the way it folds down onto the bucket. Still, it's a cool concept but just not for me. I need the capacity to be a lot higher, but it would work well for someone that doesn't do heavy lifting.

The pallet forks and brush guard are genius. Too bad I didn't think of that. The culvert clean out is most excellent as well. Might work on a tractor backhoe attachment as well. The small disc I think is not really practical for planting a food plot. I rather have a bigger tiller like what a hardware store sells. However for fire breaks, or marking out a line for different fields for a bigger tractor is good. But the first two are excellent and plan on getting the first one if it would fit my 2006 New Holland.

I just bought a pair of bolt-on bucket forks from another manufacturer. The problem with bucket forks, is that you CAN’T SEE THE FORKS!!! It’s a huge pain to have to get out of the seat and go check the position of the forks multiple times as you are attempting to pick up a load. You’re much better off to buy a dedicated pallet fork attachment for your loader.

From the GWT website: "Rocks and debris larger than 2′ diameter and over 150 lb are no match for the Battle Armor Culvert Cleaner." This doesn't make any sense as written. I think it's supposed to be rocks SMALLER than 2' and UNDER 150lb are no match. Otherwise, this implies you could pull a 12 foot diameter 5000 pound rock. And we know that's not happening :) The Culvert Cleaner seems pretty slick, although $5K to $6K seems to be about twice the price I'd expect for a non-powered implement. I understand scale of economy vs manufacturing costs vs number of units sold, etc, but when I look at the amount of metal and cost in something like a heavy duty box blade ($1500 to $2200), this seems to be a bit much.

@timothydeshaies
@timothydeshaies Жыл бұрын
@Good Works Tractors I didn't say the tire is always the best choice, and if the culvert is completely plugged, then getting a strap/rebar through will be difficult. I do like the fork attachments for convenience, but adding 200-300 more pounds will take away a lot of lift for everyday work. It's probably not an issue with a tractor capable of lifting more than a ton, but for the average compact lifting less, it's a big deal.

I'm not sure about that. I have a 1025R also and I think the weight penalty of the add on is too much for us having lower lift capacities to start with. I have a set of forks and although not quite as quick to swap back and forth, JDQA helps, I'd be willing to bet you could lift more with lightweight forks than the bucket plus the add on. Just an opinion. If you're only lifting lighter stuff and can't have both nearby, might be just the ticket.

Is the fork setup still giving up some capacity because its further up the regular pallet forks? Or is it similar to reg forks?

The forks added onto a bucket are lighter... But with the weight of the bucket and being pushed out that far I think you'd lose a lot of weight. On a big utility that doesn't really matter but they're making it for a 3 series.. I don't think I'd like losing that much capacity
@GoodWorksTractors

Correct, smaller, lighter forks coming for smaller tractors. They are aware of lift capacities and the impact of adding weight.

disk plow looks pretty narrow for tractor use.. but if all you have is a side by side or 4 wheeler... then it might be a good option..

Larger version coming for tractors (potentially). Still, compared to the price of a 3 point disc, it will be worth the trade off of extra passes for some.

@@GoodWorksTractors maybe due to my perspective but I think a subcompact tractor sized disk at a reasonable (sub 1k) price would probably be more useful (I have a 1025R)

The brush guard I like but I don't like forks on a bucket because of visibility and a loss of lift capacity.

I lithe idea of the forks, moves the lifting point to the bucket arms vs the the type that attaches to the bucket’s bottom.

Great idea of a transformer of a bucket but!!!!...He needs to add a piece to reinforce the bucket bottom or distribute the fork weight to the back of the bucket or you will smiley face your bucket because it's not rated to handle a ton of weight on the bottom alone. Especially in just two points, If you do not reinforce the bucket a lot of thngs go bad real quick. 1 you bend the bucket bottom. 2 you bend the rods that holds the forks on the top at the same time. Don't believe me, Backhoes and wheel loaders have been using this setup for a long time, It does and can Happen! Now If he fixes this by bracing or reinforces the bucket bottom then he will have a winner 100% ....There you go Good Works Tractors, there's your in on helping him to patent and make his idea work flawlesly, I will take my cut later, LOL 😀
