Excellent video, Eric! One great side benefit of this, which you mentioned briefly, is the positive impact the drill has on the positioning of the trail arm/elbow. This drill makes it nearly impossible for that trail elbow to fly out or behind the body. Thanks so much!

Eric, I enjoy listening to you teach & inform us on the swing .... you are very well-spoken in my opinion & I also appreciate that you do not throw a lot of unnecessary lingo our direction trying to impress 'your audience' .... your instruction is really easy to understand for all golfers.

The crosshand grip is also a Pete Cowen technique. It not only helps with the wrist angles but also keeps the trail elbow tucked in tight. Really effective for getting compression on the ball. I've watched a lot of your video's lately and you really have a good, simple way of explaining things and I feel as if my swing has gotten a lot better with some of your tips.

Great video Eric.. Been working on this for a couple of weeks and the compression I am getting is miles better. Still a nice high ball flight but much longer. Still trying to get comfortable as to when to make the move. Lately its when I set the club at the top. But thanks for confirming that I am not doing something wrong lol. Feels great to stripe it even with a smooth swing, Just need to turn and release.

I thought this was a very good video with the emphasis being that it is a drill. Eric, I have been watching your channel for several years, and the videos that you made with Mike Malaska have had the most positive impact on my game. In one of those videos, Mike explained to you how having a neutral wrist (throwing a ball, hitting a tennis ball, etc.) is more natural and the result is speed. This video seems to echo what Mike was saying. For me, when I address the ball, I intentionally try and keep my wrist angles in a neutral position, and maintain that position as I take the club to the top of my swing. At the top of my swing, I "twist" the handle (referencing another of your videos... "twist face"). For me, these two swing thoughts have allowed me to have better impact. Of course, I needed to experiment and figure out what worked best as it is very easy to overdo these things. YMMV (your mileage may vary) may be a good disclaimer on golf instruction videos. Thank you for showing us the drill.

Like any instruction video, this could be applicable to some . . . and it could be disastrous for others. I can just see people overdoing the left hand movement and getting the club way too inside going back. The left wrist movement is possibly the hardest thing to master in the swing. It's a blend of vertical and horizontal. Then you have to match that movement up with the proper amount of left forearm rotation. Just be careful and work on this only if you need it in your swing.

Thanks Eric Currently I’m struggling with left curved ball flight. I used to slice it right, now I’m heavily curving it to the left also my 7 iron suddenly has issues making contact, but my 6 iron that I could t hit makes much better contact all of a sudden: I’m changing a lot of things at the moment and experimenting. But I really really couldn’t take the right slice anymore 😂 Ok now we deal with left curved balls instead Will try this wrist cross feel as soon as I get to the range hopefully this weekend again.

Great video Eric…. The cack handed grip maybe we all need to give this more attention I have two players at my club that use this grip and both play off single figures!! Even Matt Fitzpatrick uses it for some chip shots And it seems to work very well for him also… By the way I’d of loved to of seen you hit a full shot using this grip!! Especially with a shot tracer 😂

Eric. I played with a lawyer and on the sixth hole I noticed he played all his shots with that reverse hand grip. He is a 8 handicap and that day he shot 6 over. When I asked him about it he said don't look at it or it will freak me out. He was pretty straight and hit most of the greens in regulation.

Love this drill and I’ve been doing it for a while. One issue I have is that I find my grip pressure increases when trying to maintain the wrist angles. My instructor tells me to be 2/10 to create lag; however, haven’t mastered that combination yet.
@CogornoGolf
@CogornoGolf 7 ай бұрын
Yeah good one---I dont think you can do this at 2/10....would need more tension to create this....thats inevitable....and OK....if you need to improve your wrist angles. You cannot improve your wrist angles and decrease tension at same time.....at least not that Ive found. Tension OK in this circumstance.

I always love your videos, Eric, but I totally disagree with focusing on the (80%) back-and-forth motion of the hands. Adam Bazalgette has a couple of videos focusing on the dynamic *up-and-down* motion of the wrists, particularly in transition. He demonstrates taking a hammer and simulating hammering a nail on an imaginary board that is placed to your side at the top of your swing. He also has another drill where he takes a paint brush and shakes water off the brush. Those are two great analogies for the flowing, dynamic, and up-and-down motion of the wrists and how they should work. Along the same line, Zander Schauffle talks about Gary Woodland’s transition wrist action and demonstrates the hand movement is like the snapping of a whip. These are certainly not back-and-forth motions of the wrists. The hammer and paint brush feels have greatly helped me understand how the wrists should work in that critical transition phase of the swing. I’ll catch you in the next video but this one is a definite no-go.

Hey Raymond! Good question.. Unfortunately its not a "yes" or "no" for everyone. Depends on what you currently are doing to say what you need to FEEL to get to neutral. I personally feel ZERO of that
@eddielee5634
@eddielee5634 7 ай бұрын
This all makes good sense in principle. However, I am confused about one thing. If you have already bowed your lead wrist and bent your trail wrist back say to the top of the backswing, how can you continue to bend it back during both transition and at impact? Is it just a matter of feeling like you don't lose the angles as you are going to the downswing?
@CogornoGolf
@CogornoGolf 7 ай бұрын
Yep! Checkout guys like Viktor Hovland/Morikawa/Rahm as exaggerated examples of this. 1. If the wrist is slightly flexed at top.....it's not flexed ALL THE WAY TO MAX....so there's room for more coming down. 2. Most people are too cupped.......they need to FEEL bowed.....FEEL......FEEL....bowed.....just to get to flat....and most dont get all the way there. So they need to exaggerate as much as humanly possibly just to get close......and should hit it better as a result

Hey there! All clubs for this one! Of course there are a lot of other pieces that could be off up to the top...but getting the wrist angles good can fix a lot of other swing issues for sure👍

Thanks! 100% you need to force it... Keep in mind..... Most people are too cupped.......they need to FEEL bowed.....FEEL......FEEL....bowed.....just to get to flat....and most dont get all the way there. So they need to exaggerate as much as humanly possibly just to get close......and should hit it better as a result. FEEL....not real....I mention this mid video how of course it needs to throw.....but if you flip.....you need to FORCE and EXAGGERATE....and those are correct to get done what needs to get done. Nothing passive going to work there....not in real life.

Golf instruction has become so "micro-managed" nowadays. The club butt folds....it isn't pulled. It is released and that's how we swing. Slow mo videos have made it so hard to discern what is "real" versus feel. Pros do not "pull down". They fold the club and keep it square. Thank you for this video!
