I wish someone had told me sooner about this club position!! It would have made all the difference to my game and I would shot in the 70’s so much sooner!! Please check the exact position of your clubhead behind the golf ball!
If you are getting this wrong, it could be the HUGE, never-spoken-about reason why you cannot square the face in the golf swing, leading to weaker iron strikes and shots that always end up going to the right of the target! In this video, I show you a VITAL position on how your irons should sit to the ground, as well as your wrist position, as they both link! The key questions is how should your irons sit to the ground? So many golfers ask about club position, iron position, club flat to ground, club off the ground and so on.
Checking the angle in your left wrist is key also key to this, as if you don’t get this right it will also impact your club position and angle to the golf ball! This simple golf this will help you strike your irons pure, hit your irons longer and includes simple iron tips, simple golf tips, simple golf tip, golf tip, simple golf tips, golf iron tips, iron strikes, simple iron tip, best iron tips, how to improve at golf

Excellent advice! A lot of Seniors I play with the bottom of the club is level to the ground. I check that my arms are extended down and that pushes the toe up.

this was initial problem with irons. I'd put the sole flat on setup. getting that slight toe up gives a cleaner strike, and corrects the natural fade the arc of the swing imparts.

it’s pretty simple, go get fitted! I did and I have natural draw but stock clubs are toe up for my impact. This resulted in a 10-12 yard draw, sometimes more! Once I got fitted, 2* flat lie I had a more controllable “baby draw” with a 2-4 yard draw and scored better!

Hey Alex, could you maybe explain and create a video of what divots can tell you about a swing? What should a good divot look like? I often leave a divot that is thin and cuts the turf on the toe side. I definitely know what a chunky divot means. Thank you.

I've always believed the lie angle at the point of impact can be significantly different than your lie angle at address, depending on your swing shape, approach angle, shaft flex, etc. It can also change from swing to swing if trying to hit a draw or fade. I have swung standard, flat, and upright lie angles with various shaft flexes to find what provides the best ball flight. You may also find that a certain lie angle could be different within the same set of irons, such as short irons from longer irons. Good video! Thank you!

In your driver video you taught that we should ground the club 6 inches or so behind the ball and address it off the toe. Does that also apply to fairway woods and hybrids? Also should we address the irons in the center of the clubface? Just watched your toe-up iron video. I have been playing for 60 years and am getting some good stuff from your videos. I'm 86 years old and regularly shoot in the high 70's and low 80's. Thanks.

Alex maybe too simple of a question but when you setup and swing do you focus on the ball throughout the swing or an area around the ball. Had lessons one time and the pro said see the ball see the ball. I seem to focus on the area which maybe a problem. What’s your take.
@AlexElliottGolf
@AlexElliottGolf 3 ай бұрын
Yeah i would say the ball, but also it depends on the club so if you are wanting to hit the ball then turf with irons, look to be contacting the ground in that area - if that makes sense? And it’s not simple at all, golf is hard so cut yourself some slack 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼

The force of the downswing causes the shaft to bow (bend). …this bow is away from the players body (when at the impact point of the golf ball) whereby pushing the toe of the club-head towards the ground (creating truly square at impact). Hence, a proper ‘lie’ in club fitting will be the toe of the club-head slightly above the surface when player is gripping at address. No disrespect- no amateur, playing a handful times per year, would even notice or have dramatic change in their score due to ‘lie’ of the club.

Alex, I have totally the opposite problem to most of your videos, I'm a right handed golfer yet my irons shoot left almost a hook at times. Every club from a PW to 6I. Most players would love this shot but I miss left farr too much, how do I fix this? Maybe 20% of my overall distance, so my 6iron is maybe 40yds left. My driver and Woods are fine with a slight draw
@ShaunY1988

I had the same problem and was resolved in a lesson I had today, for me it was because my grip was too strong, I had a go on a grip training aid club thing to get a feel for how my grip should actually be and the coach took pictures of before and after which are uploaded onto skillest, every now and then u gotta go back to basics I suppose.

What a lot of rubbish, the proper way is to naturally let the club rest in your left hand and it will naturally sit where it needs to, then take your right hand grip. Never point the leading edge up or down, that's why players get custom fitted to know if you are 1 or 2 degrees up or down.

Great tip Alex, a few years ago for no discernible reason I started to shank my irons, it would start off mid round and like a virus just got worse every shot. The problem was I was used to getting around in par or better and after a few months of this and many DNR’s I was on the verge of giving the game up as my confidence was gone and I was afraid to hit any type of iron shot until my local pro advised me to drop my hands a bit and honestly I’ve never looked back.🏌️
