I thought of you guys the other day! I've been watching old episodes of Johnny Carson lately bc it's cool to see how life was back then & it amazes me to see how they dealt with historic events as they happened. A few days ago, y'all crossed my mind bc of something said by Billy Crystal on the show. He was talking about little people, but he said the 'M' word. Now, bc it was in 1979, I tried to tell myself that he probably didn't know better, but then Johnny immediately refuted that! He ACTUALLY got onto Billy Crystal for saying that word & I was STUNNED!!! That dialog shared between the two had me in disbelief bc I thought it was more recently that people learned it was a derogatory word. To find out that in 1979, Carson was telling people not to say it & that people like Billy Crystal said it anyway bc they thought it was funny, floored me. I had so much pride for Johnny & annoyance at Billy bc he continued to repeat the word & Johnny rolled his eyes, corrected Billy several times until he finally gave up. It reiterated to me how bittersweet it is that some people are so careless that they refuse to change, but that people like Johnny will continue to fight for others bc it's the right thing to do. It was interesting to see & it made me appreciate Johnny more.
