TechYK As a Canadian who did live in the States for several years and married an American it is true that their is no tax on lotteries or gaming. The higher taxes you refer to includes universal healthcare so everyone is covered whether rich or poor. If you add what many Americans pay for their healthcare on top of their income tax it is pretty comparable to most States except those states who don’t have state tax. There are a few states such as NY and California who pay more

I think the smartest thing to do when you find yourself in that situation is to call or message every single person that you knew back in school and all of your distant relatives on Facebook or Instagram and ask them for money because you can’t pay rent or something like that because then you’ll find out who is real or not after you announce that you won the lottery. So that way when they come asking you for money when they find out that you won the lottery you can just easily reject them with no guilt.

Alex Pasko I wasn’t factoring taxes. I was only converting Canadian dollars to U.S. dollars. The taxes however depend on where you bought the ticket. In the U.S. everyone has to pay the federal rate, but depending on where you’re at you may also have to pay state and even a local tax. Some states in the U.S. you only pay the federal rate. It can make a huge difference.

after he paid off his debt lets assume he has $800k left. if he invested all of that for 30 years at a 7% return he would have over $6m. if it was a 12% average return which dave uses in examples but i think is a bit unrealistic, he would have almost $24m! thats assuming he doesn't invest any of the massive $330k income he and his wife have. if he lives on 100k a year and invests 220k and the 800k lottery winnings he would have $29m from a 7% average return or 86m if he gets a 12% average return. either way, if he invests he will retire very wealthy and still have a large budget for life expenses from today onward. this dude is indeed very lucky.

Most people aren't giving their money to for profit organizations as charity. They give them to nonprofits. Also, why would a guy worth 200 million be hoping for someone to give him a large donation? A $250,000 check would is only .125% of Dave's net worth.

Im a single mom. I live below the poverty level and its not a lot but I am foster home for a dog which I enjoy. I also with my son sponsor a non adoptable cat at a no kill rescue that is 11 dollars a month. I look for ways every day to do what I can even if its simple like opening a door for stranger or helping a mom with kids or picking up trash at a park or somewhere. Im a certified nursing assistant and I do get paid but its also my vocation/calling. Taking care of the elder generation is important.
