I grew up with Bristol. To me it's hallowed ground. Not just the circle track but the world class drag strip just down the hill that has hosted many NHRA events. The drag strip is where Bristol first got the name "Thunder Valley". I saw my first NASCAR race as a pre teen some 5 decades ago or more. It was still asphalt and only had back stretch and front stretch bleachers with a scoring and media tower in turn 1. This was in the era of true cars from the showroom modified for racing. It was the site of a 500 lap race with zero cautions won by the legendary Benny Parsons. I was in the stands when Dale Earnhardt Sr. won his very first NASCAR cup race. I was in the stands when Rusty Wallace won his very first cup race. I suffered through 7 straight wins at the track by Darrell Waltrip. I saw the first time they put a dirt surface on the track. I was working in the suites at the time when Sammy Swindell won that world of outlaws race. I was there when Dale rattled Terry Labonte's cage and dumped him on the last lap. I've live streamed the event and have been watching all the content I can. It really has impressed me the way everyone has paid homage to and respected this historic iconic venue.
