I know it probably doesn't make financial sense, but I'd love to see more of this truck. Growing up, my dad bought an absolute beater 86 F150 while our family was going through some seriously hard times. These honest old Ford pickups who've seen some things really deserve love, not just the pretty pristine ones.

Out of all the rebuilds you've done, for some reason, I'm extremely partial to this! I have never been called normal, but if I saw this truck at a car show next to a Corvette, McClaren, Porsche, or any other exotic/super/sports car, my attention would be on this F150. Fix this beast up!

You'd better check that radiator! If you are losing trans fluid with no external leakage, the internal trans cooler in the radiator may have split. That MAY explain that nastiness you saw when you pulled the radiator cap.

Good potential, with a little tlc, to make a good useable truck. I have bought, repaired, and sold vehicles for a little over 50 years. An ignition lock cylinder replacement real simple, much easier than changing steering column. Most any Ford product from 1970s to early 2000s will interchange. Rough idle due to ECM relearning idle, will improve more with driving. Congrats on your KZfaq success. Keep the shiny side up and the greasy side down.

As a ford Mechanic, the Oil pressure sensors in them are fake, They are pretty much just a sensor that tells you if it has oil or not, and its not even accurate if the sensor is old and dirty. Ford did that from the late 80s to around 2015, and them 2008 and newer Econoline vans, you don't need oil in the system for the gauge to even work, them vans they are just in one position all the time when they run. You can see the gauge doesn't move at all with any sort of throttle response, but does respond quite a lot with a scan tool if the tool can read oil pressure from the computer.

My current trucks a high mileage 99 7.3 F250 its the same nothing to look at but I wouldn't be afraid to drive a 1000 KM in it right now. Thanks for the video's take care.

I wouldn't worry about the distributor pickup coil until it reproduces the problem. Both the ECM and the pickup coil are much less likely to be problems on these old trucks than other issues with old wiring and sensors. I had a "no spark" condition on my 93 F150, and upon careful inspection and checking with the voltmeter, I found that the 2-wire connector that plugs into the coil had a crack on the inside, and the wire wasn't making a good connection. Replaced the connector, and it was good to go. I didn't expect the truck to run great right after the temp sensor replacement. It takes a couple drive cycles for the computer to adjust to the new numbers it's getting. So you have to drive it a couple times, as you did. I think you got a pretty good deal. Those trucks are easy to work on, and if the transmission holds up, it would be hard to replace it for under 2k. That engine can do alot more miles as long as you have good oil pressure. Thoroughly enjoyed the video!

Randy I had a 95 F150 with the exact 351 in it. You are correct with your assumption, and you are going to need to replace the entire distributor as I did. Mine suffered from the exact symptoms you are currently dealing with. Now you could try the old school remedy for the pick up within the distributor being dirty by spraying brake cleaner or contact cleaner down in the distributor. Depending on whatever state yours is in it could change nothing or you could get another 60000 miles out of it.

You don't need a new steering column. Just a new lock. Get a replacement lock from 1A Auto or ebay or Amazon. Then locate the lock pin under the column (it is in a hole in the underside of the shroud next to the ignition). Take your screw driver and turn the ignition on to run. Push pin in and pull the lock out. Now because the lock part with the part the you turn is gone, you will have to shove something into the rest of the lock in order to pull it put. Once you remove the rest of the lock then you can place the new lock assembly in (Make sure the new lock is turned to the on position). Once it is in then you are good to go. Pretty much a 5 or 10 min job. You don't even need to remove the shroud to replace it. I think you should put some money into this truck. You don't see many of this era F150 in such good shape. I think you underpaid as a truck like that in the MD/VA/DC/PA is a $2500 or $3000 truck all day.

Randy sir, I think the trans converter was replaced and then whoever did it tried to start it and it didn’t start and they said f&$k it after that and gave up because of the mileage on it. That body and frame are incredibly rust free for a truck that age and that many miles. You didn’t overpay at all for it. You do your thing under the hood and get the ignition and oil pressure gauge fixed, oh and check the exhaust and brother you will make bank and then some. Truck is a classic and I wasn’t expecting the 5.8L under there either, bonus!!! You have a winner. As you always say Randy, mileage doesn’t scare me either. I wanna see one more video and then the finished product. Get that mobile detail company out there before it gets to cold and it will look awesome in and out!!!

I paid $1000 for the same truck (F250) 4 years ago with 385K on it. The odometer will not go to a 4, it will just stay at 3, but it did roll over to all zeros. 443K as of today. Some of the best built and great looking trucks ever produced. The 351 Windsor can run and preform forever. You have a really good truck. start at $3k if you're going to sell it.

I have a short bed version of that truck in my yard now. 5.8 liter! I need to get it back on the road…. And you should be able to replace the ignition easily enough and have new keys.

99% sure you have a failing pickup coil. It should cost you around $30 for an aftermarket replacement. Changing it requires removal of the distributor. Once out, pop out the pins holding the gear drive & bushing and remove the shaft from the housing. You will then have access to it.

Check for throttle body leaking vacuum. Also noticed the cruise deactivation switch unplugged at the master cylinder and replacing key and tumbler should be easy. If there is a broken piece in the hole, and you can get that out, installing a key and tumbler will be a breeze. I bet the clock spring is bad causing air bag light. I worked on many of these. I think you got a decent deal.

The thick film ignition module on the side of distributor would be my first guess as far as your where all that trans fluid went see if there's a vacuum line coming up to your oil crankcase on your block somewhere cuz you might not have trans fluid in your engine block that would be the two one things I would check

Check the radiator! Trans fluid went somewhere. Don't know about the HEI pickup but I would lean towards that. Check the grounds. Check the main ground from engine to body and the ground for the ECM. Don't know if the oil pressure gauge has anything to do with it but it's obviously disconnected. I got a buddy that put over 500k miles on his F150 before the trans blew up. I have a 97 Chevy Silverado with 320k just rebuilt the trans last year. I'm just going to keep driving it because shit have you seen car prices lately!!

Giving away a vehicle and letting the person work on it at your shop is one of the most generous things I’ve heard of . You are going to help someone so much .

I'm sure you figured this out by now but a vehicle will not fire up without a coolant temp sensor or at least not right away if it was disconnected when the vehicle was at operating temp. Just for future reference lol

I like that truck. I don't think you hurt yourself with it. On another note, that green Buick you had, I believe it might be on a kbid auction, up at Anoka minnesota. But, I cannot be 100% sure.

Two-door pickups are fine , but does not really fly here in the Philippines, where crew cabs predominate (primarily because most pickups also double as family vehicles).
