The MLU for Dornier Aircraft includes an upgrade to incorporate state-of-the art Avionics Systems and Primary Role sensors. The upgrade would significantly enhance the operational capability of the Dornier aircraft of the Indian Navy to perform Primary Roles of Maritime Surveillance, Coastal Surveillance, Electronic Intelligence and development of Maritime Domain Awareness. In addition, this upgrade will also enable Indian Navy Dorniers to carry out Secondary Roles of Search and Rescue, Medical/Casualty Evacuation and Communication Link.

@@pc3006 I am talking about the conduct of Chadshankarji. Not limited to his response "That is what friends are for" on this incident in response to Bulgarian deputy PM and foreign minister thanking India for the rescue mission. Secondly, I think this much hype is warranted as it showcases Indian Naval capabilities that almost NO other resident Navy in the entire Indian Ocean Region presents (not every Nation's naval spec ops units can execute a duck drop). Shipping in general is underestimated by the public, a case of "out of sight, out of mind," even though it is the literal life blood of India's foreign trade (carries 97% of all Indian exports and imports). Using this incident to highlight the threats our shipping faces and thereby increase awareness in the Indian public regarding the need for a strong Indian Navy (and maybe even a massive Indian merchant marine) is a good endeavour. Yes this is not the first time India has done a massive Op outside India. Nor will it be the last time, but it is indeed prudent to extract mileage from these things in terms of stuff like increasing public awareness and support for a large Naval and Merchant shipping fleet.

How was this operation done ? 1) The cargo ship was captured by Somali pirates and they were using the ship like a base or mothership for launching terror operations. 2) The Indian Navy warship went to rescue the ship, even Western countries did not take any action. 3) Firstly, the pirates were told to surrender, they didn't at first, so warning shots were fired. The pirates thus used the hostages as human shields. 4) Indian Navy Special Force Marcos were briefed about the mission, and they were called for rescuing the ship. 5) Rubber boats were dropped from air, it landed near the ship, so the Marcos commandoes had to drop there. 6) As it was too close to the ship, the pirates were warned multiple times not to shoot, and several snipers pointed at the pirates from the Indian Navy's warship. 8) The whole ship was being monitored from the sky using spotter drones and ALH Dhruv Mk3 helicopters. 9) The Marcos commandoes safely airdropped near the boat and boarded it. 10) They finally boarded the pirate ship and fully sanitized it. 11) The pirates surrendered and they were taken to India for further investigation. All those people and who are questioning the protocol made me write these things for them. Marcos are trained not only in India where they get much tougher training than the Seals and Devgru but also they are trained along with them and British SAS to keep them updated. The selection procedure for Marcos is even tougher than the selection procedure of Indian Para SF( the force with the longest counter terror experience in the world).

Great job India...but it looked a little too staged...we know it wasn't, but when you have four different camera angles shot by different filming teams...it looks staged, even though we know it wasn't.

It's not staged. However they definitely took the time for some PR opportunity. Because they knew these pirates are not gonna pose a huge risk, so they utilised this to also showcase their capabilities which is fine in my opinion, as long as it doesn't interfere with the actual operation, which it didn't.

There were no troops on the ground, that was a warship with just the sailors and some snipers. So Marcos commandos were called and they were air dropped from C17 Globemaster .

They airdropped naval marines from Indian Air force c-17 aircraft which flew more than 1500 kilometres to airdop the Marines and their boat. Now your question, why didn't they immediately follow the boat. That's because there is no need to. In case there is a mishap and the parachutes ok the boat fail to properly deploy, the Marines will not get entangled. Now coming to your point, why is this all happening in day time and that too near the target. That's because daytime makes operations easier and secondly since the ships and helicopters are already on standby there is no safety risk to the flight. These are a bunch of pirates, not a conventional military.
