Thanks for the insights, could you also highlight beside the depth and seperation, how is is the high frequencies and bass say, compared to the Crystek. Ciyld the Crystek have more high and tighter, punchier bass compared to the pure? For rock, pop music, does it still outperform the rest of the clocks tested? Thanks again for your work and videos!

The Bass is nice and tight on the SC-Pure and highs have more layers and yes it does outperform the rest with all music including Rock and Pop. The better Quality recordings and better systems the difference is bigger and better.

Thank you for your series; it's how i have been introduced to IanCanada products. You have asked about other impression of these clocks. I would add only that I find the Accusilicon pair to be more of an improvement than you have expressed in comparaion to the original clocks in my TransportPi Digi (w/3.3v block) - PurePi II system. I would not go back. Whether this relatively modest system is worthy of the SC-Pures is something I'll have to ponder.

For me the first time I see your KZfaq channel and I really like it a lot. Since a couple of days I also have the SC-pure clocks in place and they are powered 24/7. First impression were as you described. More details wider soundstage a bit bit more upfront. Characteristics I really like. The difference with the standard clocks are not subtile :-) At the moment the change a bit every day and are still a bit harse especially when playing Shostakovich symphonies. I didn't had that before, hopefully that will disappear. . Via other Ian stuff the signal is trough a TAD151A S1 and a tube end stage.

@Gabster Thank you very much for your videos, you convinced me to do a DIY project, your D6 streamer. Regarding the clock replacement, how to know if any of my other equipment will do the reclocking? I will be using a toslink connection from D6 to the Platin hub (with DSP for room correction) and via WiSa standard (24bit / 96Khz) to the Burchardt active speakers which have built-in DAC and amps. In short, should I notice any improvements regarding the clock or would the clocks be an overkill for my system?

Hi Chris 5 actually 1 for every v+ input (3 on the DAC and 1 on fifo) and 1 for FIfo 5v the RPI needs a lot of Juice so it runs on LinearPi/UcConditioner all supplied by 6 independent Ac 5x12v and 1x6v I later Realised that I did not need the VCAA on the Dac if running in Sync mode so 1 is not used now but may use it in my future upgrade may use the OPA 861 hope that helps

thank you for sharing, if you have time id like to hear more about why we need 2 clocks, what is the 45/49 you mentioned and if the 45 will get you going, is it a option to just have 1 sc pure and 1 stock vs 2 crystec for example ? you mentioned clarity, detail and soundstage in your experience with your system could you put a % or # to those differences as if you were taking notes for your own personal reference ?

One clock covers one set of sample rates. 45MHz will play multiples of 44.1, 88.2,176.4 etc. The 49 will cover the multiples of 48,96 etc. You can upgrade just one and compare the sound with your current clock by resampling the same track to be 44.1 vs 48 for example. I use one expensive clock at 5.6MHz as 99% of my library is CD/44.1. If I put in a second premium clock it will be 49 or 24.5 to play the higher sampling which is often at a multiple of 88kHz. Very hard to put it into a %. Some people are convinced they hear no difference. To me it is a big deal as it is natural, holographic and analogue. Others find it to be a very slight change. Also depends on your total system and the type of music. I like really well recorded jazz and like to hear the micro detail which delivers the emotion and and ambiance. If your taste in music is to highly compressed rock or heavy metal, then it will make little difference.

This is a useful opinion to temper expectations vs the run of the mill clocks. Your point is valid that clocks are the last step. If you have a well resolved system and you listen critically then they are key in separating your DAC from average to exceptional. Also useful to simply get some insight into the pricing. This is expensive. Far more expensive than the first round of Well Audio clocks. I think we need Doede to compare them to WellAudio clocks for an opinion on the high end clocks. Frankly if they did not sound significantly better than the Crystek, then what's the point?

Gaby, is it feasible to replace the clock(s) and DAC chip(s) in lower end or mid-fi streamers, music players and DACs to improve them? Is there a lot of engineering and witchery done around these devices or is it a matter of observing, "yep, same number of pins.. out with the old and with the new...,,". ? I have three devices that I would love to do this on. An old early model bitstream DAC That could likely benefit from a better clock as those have improved since its engineering. And I have two lower end all-in-one DAC/streamers that I would be interested in upgrading. There are micro soldering phone repair stores in my area that could easily do the job if it's a matter of just replacing a part with a better part.

Like all of this is is slightly better but nevertheless combined it all adds up. I recently had a failed custom multi chip DAC fail and went back to my Dual mono ESS fully UCpure and LifePO4. Was surprised how well it performs. The psu is a big contribution to overall performance and UCpure is the best I have tried. I am yet to compare Ian's clocks with Andrea Mori and will comment as soon as I can. All I can say is going back to standard good stock clocks after 2 years of Andrea Mori clocks because my sine pi broke [my fault], it was as if someone was standing in front of my speakers....

It is important to understand that XO phase noise varies quite a bit from sample to sample. I have some experience with getting clocks measured and sorted for phase noise, and what one finds is that close in phase noise (for example at 2 Hz) can vary by as much as +/- 6 Dbc for clocks such as the CCHD 957, or the NDK SDA series. I suspect there would be similar variations for Ian's Pure SC as well, unless Ian actually measures and sorts the individual SC crystals to verify performance to his standards. If paying ~$200, or more, for an oscillator it would be nice to know for sure that the sample one purchases will perform to the standards shown in Ian's published phase noise measurements (or better). Of course, Ian's Pure SC is the only SC cut crystal based oscillators easily available for direct swap in a lot of DACs or source components. I am going to pick one up for my DSC-2 DAC, which uses only a single 45.xxx oscillator for use with only DSD 512 input from my HQPlayer server. This DAC currently uses an NDK SDA series oscillator, which is the best performing, easily available, oscillator-but of course an SC cut crystal based oscillator can be expected to perform better than the NDK.

@______________27 It is important to acknowledge that the phase noise of any clock varies from sample to sample, sometimes as much as +/- 5 dB! I made the switch to using the NDK SDA series from Crystek when I talked to a known knowledgable source (high end component designer manufacturer) who measures a lot of clocks. He advised that the NDK SDA series actually consistently measured significantly better than anything from the other "usual suspects". As far as subjective listening-in a properly designed product, the clock with the better close in phase noise is going to sound better, unless one is looking for some kind purposeful coloration, such as an overblown soundstage which certain jitter spectrums can cause. Of course the Pure SC clocks are another level from this...
