He is Palpatine, acting as the Senate.

He is such a good actor. If you can make everyone hate your character, despise and fear him simply because that is how he is, you have succeeded in making a character worth acting. He succeeded fully in realizing the true evil of Palpatine.

Ian’s voice is so iconic just hearing it echo through the mic makes me feel like he’s addressing the senate😂

He’s such a nice guy. My daughter was scared of him because she recognized him as the Emperor. He did all kinds of things to calm her nerves. One of the high lites of my fandom was meeting him

Ian McDiarmid was the perfect casting, even in the Rise of Skywalker he gave every line everything he had

Ian's a rare breed of Shakespearean performer who has great experience and accolades on the theater stage. A voice like honey and an uncanny power to grab your attention with his reading. He saw his first play at age 5, and since then has been hooked: "It sort of fascinated me, and it also scared me. All those lights, all that make-up. I said to myself, 'I don't know what this is, but I want it.'"

I remember meeting Ian at London comic con on my 18th birthday, and without asking him to, he looked at me and said “happy birthday young Jedi” in his emperor voice, which I can safely say is a moment that will stick with me forever. Ian is a legend!

I can hear his voice anywhere and immediately recognize him as Palpatine

Every time I see Ian I get nervous thinking he’s gonna flip the switch at anytime and turn into the emperor. What a great performance he gave! And the best part of it was that Palpatine actually enjoyed and revelled in being as evil as he was. It made the character so much more malevolent.

Ian McDiarmid is a legend. Without him, we wouldn't have one of the most devilish and sharp masterminds in science fiction.

Ah yes, the three greatest Star Wars villains: the Emperor, Darth Maul, and...Wicket.

Palpatine's return was a last minute addition by Disney to save the trilogy and I think it just ruined his character and the ending overall, it seemed so rushed and out of nowhere really.

When someone can play one of the most evil and sinister villains in cinematic history so well that he ends up making you actually like his character... THAT is acting. Ian’s great performance is one of the only things about the sequels I care to remember. LONG LIVE THE EMPEROR

Met him at celebration. He is such a happy man. I had him sign my DVD copies of TESB, ROTJ, and ROTS. He is such a nice man.

One of my favorite lines from Ian is one that is rarely mentioned. "So be it, Jedi." It had such a sinister tone while hiding the supreme arrogance he had knowing he could easily crush Luke if he wanted to at that point.

I bet he’ll be in the stand alone Kenobi TV series.

I really hope they do bring back Ray Park- Temeura Morrison style, and have him totally kick ass. Would work in the Lando show, which hopefully continues Solo, but has Lando as more of a central character and Han and Chewie as backgrounders who show up every few episodes like Greef Carga.

You know, it wasn't really a part of the video persay but I'm so glad Ahmed Best went to Star Wars celebration and heard the crowd cheer for him. His performance was actually absolutely incredible. Even if you don't like the character he was great and gave the role his all. And I think people are finally starting to come around to Jar Jar. Not to mention he was always one of my Dad's favorite star wars characters. So I'm glad that he can at least know that he has fans and that people appreciate what he did.

Bless Ian McDiarmid for bringing life to the iconic sinister mastermind to grace on screen, as well to Ray Park for his portrayal of one of the coolest and badass villains in Star Wars

I love all of these guys. I once had the privilege to see Ian perform Timon of Athens at Chicago's Shakespeare theater and it was REMARKABLE. The guy has so much range and is so damn good at what he does, and in the second act there where a couple moments where his character, Timon, gets SUPER angry and he actually broke into the Emperor voice for some of it. Utterly incredible. The man deserves some kind of lifetime achievement award. In fact all three of these guys do.

I’ve been very fortunate to meet Ian in person three different times and to see him onstage on Broadway. I did a 10 minute virtual chat end of May of this year with him. It was a dream come true. He’s such a sweet, humble guy and he’s a phenomenal actor in every role he plays. I have always had a massive fan girl crush on him. Anyway, I highly recommend meeting him if you haven’t. You won’t be disappointed! ❤️❤️.

I gotta say, I know people were upset with Ep IX , but I so LOVED seeing the Emperor again; it’s a great movie.

It's crazy how little Ray sounds like Maul, and yet Ian sounds almost if not exactly, like Palpatine

In the mid 90s I took a tour of the Almedia Theater in London. There was something I couldn't place something about the person giving the tour. At one point he even asked me if I recognized him from somewhere. I admitted I did, but had no idea from where. It wasn't until over a year later that I realized, when I went to see the reissue of Return of the Jedi, as the end credits were rolling, that the man giving the tour, Ian McDiarmid, was the one who played The Emperor.
