Interview with Ian Paice 2013 - Linea Rock by Barbara Caserta
Mr IAN PAICE interviewed by Barbara Caserta in our Radio Lombardia Studios in Milano. In a long chat Barbara & Ian goes “deep” about the new album “NOW WHAT!?”, (which arrives 8 years after last studio effort “Rapture of the Deep”) and its vintage 70s flavour. We also talked about Bob Ezrin chosen as the producer (he worked with the greatest, like Kiss, Pink Floyd and Alice Cooper among others), the unforgotten Jon Lord (the new track “Above and Beyond” is dedicated to him and Ian goes deeply personal on it), Ian’s fave songs to play live from the drumming point of view (especially DP classics). And about his very first memories connected to Italy way back in the mid 60s when he was playing at "Piccolo Teatro Milano" with The Maze… and touring, not only with Purple but also Whitesnake and Gary Moore. And also about how does it feel to be one of the most influential pioneers in rock drumming, about the eternal “clash of the titans” Bonham/Paice & Purple/Zep, his fast/smooth/left-handed drumming style, typical jokes about drummers and of course about how does it feel to be the only surviving member of the first original “Deep Purple Mark 1”! We welcomed Ian in the studio all covered in DP vinyls, basically the whole discography, plus all his sideworks, projects, collaborations, so you can imagine how the place was packed of great music… Ian was so happily surprised and enjoyed it much: “I don’t even have some of those at home”, he went surprising us back, soooo funny… We asked him to pick just one disc and sign it for us: his choice went on… drumroll… “Made in Japan, a monumental masterpiece I’ll be proud of eternally!”. Class act, with such a high human value.
Enjoy, comment and share!

Thanks Mr Paice for your time and the fantastic quotes… and thanks everybody for all the great flattering compliments… that's my job but rock is mainly my biggest passion since my kid-days… of course been in front of such a huge living legend like Ian made the job easier, he is a total pro with a big big heart! Oh, I'm a drummer as well so imagine how the privilege was precious for me! :-) Some interviews simply happen to turn out magic and this is certainly one of em!

What a fabulous interview. Kudos to the interviewer for asking thoughtful questions, and then allowing Ian to respond in kind. I have always thought Ian Paice to be the most down to earth and humble member of Deep Purple, and this interview confirms this.

Erano ragazzi meravigliosi!!!

Ian Paice was a huge influence on me. He was incredibly inventive and way ahead of his time considering there were no video lessons or you tube etc to learn from like there is today. It is great to see someone who has been so successful, be so humble and who genuinely still loves to play. Go Ian!

An absolutely amazing drummer and such a gentleman at the same time! This year, when I saw Deep Purple live, he did an extraordinary drum solo! What a night that was! Probably people do not talk very often about him, because he didn't smash things up like Keith Moon or because he wasn't a heavy drinker like John Bonham was.

Chevrolet, Foodstamps, Busriding, Mp3 downloading, Mortgage adjustments, Debtor's Prison! June 22, 2013 at 5:1pm Therefore is the kingdom of heaven likened unto a certain king, which would take account of his servants.[24] And when he had begun to reckon, one was brought unto him, which owed him ten thousand talents.[25] But forasmuch as he had not to pay, his lord commanded him to be sold, and his wife, and children, and all that he had, and payment to be made.[26] The servant therefore fell down, and worshipped him, saying, Lord, have patience with me, and I will pay thee all.[27] Then the lord of that servant was moved with compassion, and loosed him, and forgave him the debt. But the same servant went out, and found one of his fellowservants, which owed him an hundred pence: and he laid hands on him, and took him by the throat, saying, Pay me that thou owest.[29] And his fellowservant fell down at his feet, and besought him, saying, Have patience with me, and I will pay thee all.[30] And he would not: but went and cast him into prison, till he should pay the debt.[31] So when his fellowservants saw what was done, they were very sorry, and came and told unto their lord all that was done.[32] Then his lord, after that he had called him, said unto him, O thou wicked servant, I forgave thee all that debt, because thou desiredst me: [33] Shouldest not thou also have had compassion on thy fellowservant, even as I had pity on thee?[34] And his lord was wroth, and delivered him to the tormentors, till he should pay all that was due unto him.[35] So likewise shall my heavenly Father do also unto you, if ye from your hearts forgive not every one his brother their trespasses.
