I'm actually here because I was watching an interview with Liam and John and thought "Noel and Ian did it first".I think it sounds much more Stones Roses.Groove.woth an Oasis drift but to be expected as.Ians vocals and Noel guitar

Been a long time. I forgot how fantastic this song is. Noel wrote it, very cool of him to let Ian sing it. But it all works SO WELL. And the last scene, them together: Ian's attitude and charisma, as good as it gets. No one's gonna notice if you're sinking anyway - those who're coming in for free will learn they gotta pay. Aye.

I love the meaning of the song: keep what you’ve got (kindness, generosity, good moral values) by giving it all away (money and/or possessions). Conversely, the opposite applies too: keep what you’ve got (money/possessions) by giving it all away (kindness/generosity).

I was only just ‘properly’ getting into music when this came out as a kid, so I didn’t know much about the roses. I remember seeing him in this and thinking “he looks like the sort of guys that walk round our estate in greater Manchester, what makes him so special?” And then I got it, THAT is what makes him so special. Ian Brown is 100% himself, he’s relatable and he’s incredibly talented. I think it was around that time I sort of realised how much soul the working class has, and that we had a voice worth listening to. Top man ian

Thank God for musicians like Brown because in the soul destroying current climate of tightly controlled, Simon Cowell/Simon Fuller, manufactured, synthetic, non-organic, music for the dead inside; he's a shining beacon of hope and reassurance. This song reminds me of recovery. Anyone who has done a 12 step program could really relate to this. You can't keep sobriety without giving it away because those who don't come in for free (to the meetings) well later they are going to pay. The part about feeling that you don't belong hit home also. The song goes over some great spiritual principles, man I'm loving it. I started watching this video after I got into recovery. I have 13 years now and this song still moves me. Blessings to you all...🙏🙌

Ian Brown's solo career has been amazing, even with all the Roses baggage he's made some brilliant albums. Britsva I loved 'Stone Roses', played it death, still play it now but since its release I've regularly played 'Golden Greats'. It still blows me away now and at the time it was a whole new sound for Ian. 'Music Of The Spheres' is pretty amazing as well and 'The World Is Yours' is a damn good album. It's not like he's unknown but I think he doesn't get the props he deserves and a lot of that's to do with the shadow of the Roses. I honestly prefer him as a solo artist.
@thirdeyeblind6369

I think a lot of that has to do with the UK music press, They need to let go of the Stone Roses baggage I reckon. Anytime they mention him it's always "Former stone roses front man Ian Brown" ect. But we all know who he is so why keep shoveling his past on his shoulders. I would get it if he had done sweet FA since Stone Roses and they needed an anchor point for the young'uns reading that maybe didn't experience his music. But that's not the case. Never mind the fact he most likely has the strongest following of any artist I've seen and seems to me people genuinely love his music and him! I definitely prefer him solo, King Monkey has helped me get through some rough times.

Yesterday came suddenly. Tomorrow will we see? Today now you're at the wheel. I'll ask â??how does it feel?â?? Yesterday when heaven's gates I contemplate. They seem so far. Today they ain't so far away and almost seem a drag. Keep what yer got by giving it all away. Keep what yer got by giving it all away. Keep what yer got, hold it don't stop. Keep what yer got, by giving it all away. When your halo slips for good you'll have to wear your hood. Good to feel the breeze of fear on all the cynics. And you mimic all you losers all abusers wasting all my precious energy. Keep what yer got by giving it all away. Keep what yer got by giving it all away. Keep what yer got, hold it don't stop. Keep what yer got, by giving it all away. Remember where you came from. Sister she told ya on a rainy day. It's said that heaven holds a place for all of those who pray. And if you don't believe in agony then you don't care anyway. Nobody or nothing's ever getting in your way. Even as you cradle on but don't think you'll be long. No-ones gonna notice if yer never right or wrong. And if you and your next neighbour, yeah you don't quite get along. No-ones gonna notice if your singing anyway. Lyrics Yesterday came suddenly, tomorrow will receive Today now you're at the wheel, I'll ask how does it feel Yesterday when Heaven's gates, I contemplate, they seem so far Today they ain't so far away and almost see my train Keep what ya got, by giving it all away Keep what ya got, by giving it all away Keep what ya got, hold it, don't stop Keep what ya got, by giving it all away When your halo slips for good, you'll have to wear your hood Could you feel the breeze of fear on all the cynics, I'm ya mimick All you losers, all abusers wasting all my precious energy Keep what ya got, by giving it all away Keep what ya got, by giving it all away Keep what ya got, hold it, don't stop Keep what ya got, by giving it all away Remember where you came from Sisters who told ya on a rainy day They said that Heaven holds a place for all of those who pray And if you don't believe in my dream then you don't care anyway Nobody or nothings ever getting in your way Even as you pray to the Lord but don't feel you belong No one's gonna notice if you ever right or wrong And if you and your next neighbour, yeah, you don't quite get along No one's gonna notice if you're singing anyway Those not coming in for free well they they gotta pay, ah...

Good try - but the correct lyrics give the song much more meaning! (1) "Yesterday came suddenly, tomorrow will RECEDE." (Yesterday popped up suddenly, but tomorrow is gradually vanishing - i.e. "receding"). (2) "Today they ain't so far away, and almost seem AJAR." (He's not only closer to heaven's gates (death), they seem nearly open - i.e., "ajar")
@loafhead73
@loafhead73 9 ай бұрын
These errors are nitpicky, but still: (1) "SISTERS told ya on a rainy day" (Nuns told kids they'll leave this bleak world only if they pray). (2) "Even as you PRAYED ALONG but don't feel you belong" (They prayed from kids to adults, but no longer believe in the promise). (3) "Those WHO ARE coming in for free will learn they gotta pay" (If it was "those not coming in for free" that means they paid, so they do not need to learn they gotta pay).
