You're right it definitely takes time. I lost my job in March due to the pandemic, so that gave me time to focus on photography. I'm just now getting my first few clients

I'm a photographer and am thinking of starting a studio and renting it out, too! I would love to see how that works for you, how you do bookings, what you looked for in a space, cost breakdown in regards to hiring out the space (eg do you charge for a cleaner afterwards or whatnot). Any and all info you give about how you run your studio for yourself and for hiring to others would be greatly appreciated!

I think one of the best things about going to school for photography is being exposed to new styles, techniques and history that you might try on your own. Plus, access to equipment and studio space beginners won't have THE best thing has to be critiques of your work! Who has ever hung up their photos in front of a professor and 10+ other photographers and been torn apart? Haha. I can tell you, the average self taught photographer posting on social media has not. Having hundreds of Instagram likes, high numbers of followers, and clout chasing, they probably only ever heard glowing reviews of their work and can't handle that they're not perfect I was a member of a Facebook group where people would dam near come to blows over CC. "Your rim light is a little hot" or "the skin retouch is too plastic" was met with "I meant to do that!" School teaches you how to detach yourself from your work; to listen, and come back better. Also, it teaches you how to GIVE a critique with respect and to defend your work when necessary

Thanks for these pieces of advice. I didn´t go to any photography university (in fact, because of family pressure I studied Electronics, and years later I quit that thing) and I can confirm that the really useful stuff in photography is what you learn through research + practice + analyzing your images + fixing errors... and then repeat. Sure, you need things like photography history, light physics theory and so things that teach in school... but... you can also learn it by yourself ;). I´m not against the school, but the most creative people I´ve ever known has been self-taught. Coincidence?

I'm a new photographer and did a free shoot last weekend (3hrs, 380 photos down to 8photos) and worked photoshop, your work got me excited to start up. Depends on how big the influencers were and if he did more than 1 shoot per week. 40gbp for an hour of shooting when its your first paid job is fine.

If you're going to do a lighting course - you may want to consider making it an official paid online course just like the guy parker walbeck on youtube, imho. That'a great monthly income and you deserve it. All these lighting guys are running ads to your audience for their courses on your channel as I watch this vid. It's totally worth it and can be a little more of passive income after the initial set up.

I never earned a single penny from photography. Photography only costs a ton of money. I spend about 70 hours a week doing shoots and editing shoots (mostly editing). All on a TFP basis. How the hell do you find time to look at all those things you said you get your inspiration from?? I spend like every free minute editing images.
