I love Volvo from this era, they had such amazing engine brake! Off the highway down to a roundabout, begin with 1 then 2 then 3 and knock a gear down if you need it!

i love all your videos and love the effort that u go to making them. I'm doing my HR licence test, which vehicle am i best to do my course in so i can buy a tipper or do work for people driving there trucks ???? theres so many bloody different truck types in gear boxes, which should i do it in ?????

I use both engine brake along with foot or trailer brake

When I did my test to upgrade my license from car to Heavy Rigid, there was no requirement on the test to learn how to use the Jake brake, but I wish there was, because I might need to drive to Adelaide and go on the very steep South Eastern Freeway or drive through Toowoomba?

Great presentation. Thank you. All I know about heavy road transport is what I sponge in on the internet. Took note about a Jake brake. Impressive. But a costly addition. Knew of an exhaust brake all along. But only knew about it. Took note of a Voith retarder 45 years ago. And was hooked on its sheer practicality. But that was the end of it as well. While putting my nose into matters again noted magnetic retarders. And while still reasonably ignorant to this fraternity. Deem the latter as an excellent and uncomplicated answer to this method of slowing down. And surely at it's own cost, Can the heavy vehicle owner/operators with specific long-term experience of any retarder usage please comment on the amount of of wear-saving/less maintenance down time on the service braking system of a heavy vehicle? And. If possible. On lang haul. And local delivery situations. Will be greatly appreciated to get it directly from truck owners with particular experience. Many thanks. Keep safe and God bless!!

Here's another tip, when driving a truck, or any vehicle it's a good idea to look where you're going instead of at a camera.

Stupidest thing to put this function on a stalk. A design blunder. It forces you to activate position A, 1, and 2 in order to get to position 3. I drive this sucker every day and every day i curse the volvo designers to thought this was a good idea.
