Hi I’m in grade 10 and English isn’t my first language but I’m considering the ib program Can you please give some advice? What are pros and cons? Do I need a certain level of English to enter ? Like C1 or C2 ?

Hi! As a current IB student I don’t believe there’s a certain level of English needed as we do have a student from the Philippines who’s first language isn’t English, so I can’t help there. However, I can give pros and cons. I’ll start with the cons, which you’ll definitely need to learn time management and what to prioritise. You should definitely learn how to learn and not memorize which sounds weird, but you’ll understand once you take the classes, especially if you take biology. The pros are the opportunities we get from doing this program and how prepared you’ll be for college, as well as some added perks like my school has an ib hall pass since we change classes at a different time from everyone else and that pass can get us anywhere with no questions. The teachers and administrators also have a level of trust for ib students, which is good for if you do by any chance get in trouble. The most important thing to remember is that no matter how difficult the ib program gets for you, your mental health matters most. That doesn’t mean procrastination and deciding to skip some assignments which I’ll admit I did do, but take care of yourself. I can confirm that you will struggle, but in the end it’ll be worth it. English isn’t my first language and I feel that IB will be much more difficult for me. I play varsity sports and travel clubs. I’m considering the partial IB. Is that good for colleges o do I need to take the full program?
