-Suicide 1 man at the beginning of stage 1. -Suicide all spare players on the stage 2 boss to go into stage 3 with no spares. -Make sure you never get 2 spare lives in stock again unless you are in the end of the final stage. Because suiciding down to 0 lives in stock lowers your rank way more than suiciding to 1 or 2 in stock. So play with 1 spare in stock and whenever you are about to get an extend, suicide to no spares before it pops up.

This video is definitely a good guide of how to play Ibara on more or less survival level. Especially regarding the bosses.

Man, if only there was an Ibara HD for Xbox 360. Mushi got one, anyhow. Although I'm specifically interested in seeing Kuro in HD.

Info on the special powerups was posted by Icarus a few years ago on the shumps board: SEARCH: Drop five small bomb fragments, then pick up an option powerup. WIDE: Drop five option powerups, then pick up the sixth option powerup. ROLLING: Drop five medals, then pick up an option powerup. BACK: Drop five small shot powerups, then pick up an option powerup.

To be honest it seems to happen naturally in the 2nd half of the sky stage which is when you most need it. The biggest thing to help you clear the game your first time is keeping rank down and these are the 3 main keys to that:

The game core is a system of rank balances that have to be planned out in advance for whichever way you want to play if you want to have a shot clearing it. I haven't even tried making a strategy for it for high scoring yet so I don't know. If I went into it just trying to mimic the superplays, not very far.

You just need to use splitter cables on the video and audio signals so you can play on a CRT while it records into a PC. I do it through a supergun with an rgb converter board. You can convert the audio to RCA with a car stereo converter if needed. It's best to get a capture card or unit that handles audio and video all itself or else the audio will always get out of sync. That's basically it.

Could you post a video on how you're capturing these from the PCB ? I currently video straight from the cabinet, but I'd love to kind of get a dual recording done, showing close up of the action on a 2nd output. Cheers !

So thisgame is impossible to beat with keeping the rank high? that's a bit sad. Planned on playing it one day.

No. Just because I beat it this way doesn't mean it's the only way it can be done.

How do you see Ibara Kuro in comparison to this one? I know that in kuro a lot got tweaked so that it seems more doable. which one of both is harder to beat. I plan on buying a pcb of ibara. only question left is which one. and yea..it comes down to the differences between both games.

Kuro is easier and a bit closer to what most people are used to in Cave games and you don't have to accept such a radical rank system and the switching of weapons opens parts of the games up with more flexibility and less strict planning. I would definitely recommend beating Kuro first and then when you are obsessed with Ibara go for the original. The problem there though is, at least last I checked, a Kuro PCB is way more expensive. Exponentially. I'm not even sure you could find a Kuro for sale, but I'm not sure.

Yea I heard it was a very limited release. well ty for your answer. Dunno why these "not-cave-ish" titles interest me so much. I am also intersted in games like guwange and esp.ra.de. so yeah.

What happens if you time out the final boss of Ibara? Does it escape resulting in a bad ending?

Jac2Mac I wonder why so many people ask this? Your in the main base, there's nowhere for the final boss to escape to. Shmups only have time outs (where usually the boss just explodes) to keep people from infinitely milking points from destroy-able missiles or from hogging the arcade machine from other people.
