I have the Onix Alpha with Supermix 4, 100% oxygen free copper modular cable Galaxy S23 Ultra, Tidal, Amazon Music, Apple Music and KZfaq Music. I am pleased to say there are no issues with any format, bitrate, eq, filter, gain, volume, compatibility, detection, overheating, distortion, clipping, shutoff, freezing, or anything else at all. Because of my chosen equipment and services my Supermix sounds warm and has a revealing upper range without being shouty or shrill at high volumes. The bass slaps and nothing is veiled.

How does it sound? Some people said warm DAC + warm IEM would be a veiled sound. Or is it just good for some music genres?

Arrgh! I was listening to your comparison against the Onix Alpha. You kinda sat on the fence here. You end up saying both are different and it depends.... 🤬 (Ok I get it. Just would have liked something more definitive.) But which would you recommend if you're using the Dita Project M as your IEM? Not sure if you reviewed the Dita Navigator but at $299 not too much of a step up in price. Thx

For the M the ONIX in a hearbeat it would compliment the tuning of the IEM and smooth it out.

dongle can't replace dap in most situations, if you are buying dap it is not only because of sound but also tons of other features; I have DX180 and will not sell it but surely use with my portable amp as this elevates the pleasure of listening; as nice as dc07 might be today let's wait for next onix dongle that presumably will be better than dc07 and cheaper as well

I would say neither adds in more bass the Alpha plays more analog sounding the iBasso quick and snappy bass

Correction: 21:07 Onix Alpha does not come with the case, you have to buy it separately or as a kit for $120

@@tonedeafmonk Me too. I was so pumped to hear the difference between my HiBy FC3 and the ALPHA, that I thought my unit was defective when I connected it to my phone and didn't work. But it worked fine with my laptop!

Onix is working well for me off of my Galaxy S23 Ultra at any volume, gain or filter.

From my understanding you can get around this issue by getting a usb c connector that splits one usb c to phone and another usb c to a power bank. My best guess is the onix is drawing too much power. I mean its the most powerful dongle to have ever existed so it needs something that can push alot of power to it.

Nice review. Bought the Onix Alpha XL1 based on your review and Andy's. It's a good dongle, but power aside, it's in line with $100 competitors like the Aful Snowy Night. The latter, to me, has superior detail rendering while the former has a warmer signature. I can't stand the flimsy cable on the Onix. Aful wins there easily. This seems like the one that many should choose in its price bracket. This segment of the market is changing fast. Bring it on.

I don't think you'll regret it. The Onix is good. But the hobby moves so quickly, so anointing it hastily seemed premature. Maybe it's better to say that the Onix is excellent value rather than calling it the "best" dongle is more appropriate.

THIS! Exactly my same thoughts! You spend 200 euros on this dongle... and the next month comes out a new dongle that sounds better... now try to think about who bought the dap dx180 what a big mistake!

@@resottolamontagna904 You are right I think we should stop somehow and be happy with what we got. A fair over ear maybe, a fair in ear and a fair dac/amp I think it's fine. I do not think there are actual differences in sound between the 100-200 price range dongles. We should not follow the carrot especially if we are on a budget. We should not loose the target which is to enjoy our music.

@@lukasjanecka9996 If the Onix didn't had issues with the mobile compatibility and if Hidizs hadn't change the tuning of MP145, trust me I would be much more fine about what to choose. A bit shame for the QC of many Chinese companies

My Samsung A52 and S6 tablet cannot power it. Other phones, in the house, can. The only thing I can think of is that both devices use the same Qualcomm 720 chip.

Not worth 4x (correction: 2x) the price of the ONIX Alpha XI1. A volume wheel/button is simply not worth +$300 (correction: +$100). IMO. Whatever...to each his own. Already own the iBasso DB19 (cable: power/data splitter) and the USBC-USBC DD hiFi cable, so cables are a non issue for me.

oh yeah i bought it arrive in couple days now so happy to try it so exiting deaf monk also i saw review in andyvault sheesh man also i had ibasso dc04 has s tupid issue usb output not not working iim really unhappy i just had it 2 weeks still pretty good dc04 pro i will try to fix it asap

@@tonedeafmonk Yes Andy likes the dc07pro as well but to him the Onix Alpha and this were indenticle except he said maybe slightly if you are realy really criticaly listening the dc07pro maybe more airy / wider soundstage. For you it sounds like they have difrent tonalities entirely one more analytical the other analog. This i find a little concerning for the dc07pro becuase the way the dc07 is built with 4 dacs and dasiy chaning the built in amps very well may cause slight variences in sound between units. Not only are you doubling the dacs but if one of those dacs built in amps is ever so slightly diffrent and then fed into another dac and reamplified its going to amplify the diffrence even more. I find the design for this dac very odd.

@haneko6422 The iBasso followed thier house sound I would never call them Organic or analog sounding more Analytical and cleaner. The two definitely have a different sound signature.

@@tonedeafmonk Well thank you for clarifying. I am glad i went with the onix alpha then as I dont particularly like Analytical DACs/AMPs. They tend to cause me ear fatigue and I cant listen to them for more than maybe an hour. So far iv really been liking the Onix its just pure joy to listen to and so open and wide its truly a unique experience compared to my other dacs and amps.
