IBC Tank | Levelling multiple totes & Plumbing

Our IBC Tank installation, plumbing and levelling them all together has been a long outstanding project on the homestead. We must get this done so we can pull the long hoses connecting to the mains supply and allow the homestead to be self sufficient for water / irrigation and watering the animals.
Ian & Julie are building their tiny homestead and soon to be starting the biggest project of their lives - a Passive House Container Home which will be totally off grid.

Great video ... what diameter were the fittings that you used to connect them together ? I'm looking to connect four together for an allotment project.

Cheers Bill - I used 25mm standard water pipe. I have seen a lot use larger solid piping (normally used for swimming pools) but I have found the 25mm is enough.

I wanted to get a black food grade tote and connect it to feed my Rv for showering, toilet and washing dishes. Do you think I would have any issues ? Like algae or it being harmful? I live in West Texas in the middle of the Desert. Thanks In advance for your opinion.

We do not get any algae at all with the back plastic so a purpose black IBC should be fine - I am looking out for some of these too. I am sure there are simple filters to just give it a simple clean for showers etc.

We live in South West Coast of Washington State, how can we get a hold of 4 of these for rain water catchment ?

I am sure you can get IBC containers in the states - I have seen several youtube channels that use them. They are very useful, but make sure you get food grade units as much easier to clean for water.

There are lots out there now - just search for carpenters pencil on Amazon and there is a big choice 🖊️

Could you just spray paint the tote plastic black instead of wrapping it with plastic?

This was an option but I was worried over time it would start to peel in the sun and look shabby. They do have black IBC containers available and we are searching for these for our next units at it woudl save a lot of time and plastic 😀

Have u thought about insulating ur tanks? I've been freaking w crazy temps >44° C & the state is under emergency due to drought. Arkansas general had tornado storms so not having any measurable rain since beginning of Aug had been tough. Some areas don't have water coming out of their traps, ask the farmland has been grazed bare, & hay not growing. Square bale of hay $85 US & expected to hit $125. Farmers r selling the heards in TX, AR, OK, KS,... 10k head called died in KS June due to extreme heat. The produce farmers aren't doing any better. I burned thru 1500 gal rain water in 3 weeks for my small garden trying to keep it alive. I want to go hydroponic, uses approx 8% of the water a dirt garden requires. BUT... I'm afraid the extreme heat will over heat the tanks & destroy the roots. I don't want to have to add an excellent "Chiller" to the tanks & drive electric bill even higher. Then there's the winter concerns. When it hits below 0 C doi need to protect the valves, pipes, & houses from breaking & being able to water my winter greenhouse. What a wonderful dream u have. I grow 50% more produce for my local food bank & bring in hens eggs- I can't handle that ur seniors & kids go hungry. My hens aren't even laying due to the heat. If I'm lucky I get 1 egg everywhere day vs avg 7 day this time of yr so they aren't even getting that much needed protein. Not to mention I'm having to buy fresh produce. I've started my winter inside hydroponics back up. Crazy paying for lights when I have all this sun 🤪

We do have some extreme temperatures but not for an extended amount of time. So 45ºC for a week or two in summer and maybe -10ºC for a few weeks in winter. In winter I do remove the pump and manually water just in case they freeze. I can afford to insulate them for the summer so just hoe the water cools enough during the night time. Our pastures are brown and dry at the moment too but today, there is hope as it is sprinkling with rain. Thanks for your comment
