I am 52 and have had Crohn's since I was 7. I have been tired for so long that I do not remember not being tired. Occasionally, I will go to my father's lake house and sleep. Get up and go back to sleep as soon as I feel tired. After a weekend of that I feel better for a few days. Crohn's patients suffer in silence because we look normal, but inside we are fighting to function.

I know I am fatigued due to crohns and my doctors know too but I always fear that people around me just see me as lazy... I hope that this test will help me even if it just a little :)

Very true Crohn's make you fatigue, Crohn's make week, Crohn's make you go to the bathroom alot, Crohn's hurt and can change the way you live. I have chronic Crohn's and it really SUCKS. All my doctors are trying to help me but don't seem to really have the right answer for me to get rid of this. So now I'm taking it on my self by eating healthier, exercising and lots of sleep and yea my daly vitamins. And can say now I'm pain free gaining my weight back looking better than I ever looked stronger than I ever was and yes I know if you are a Crohny like me I know it's hard to exercise when you never have energy but in this time you have to push your self to the maximum limit if you want to really live again trust me I was there and it's working for me and mabe it can work for you what do you really got to lose. ..

For me, explaining fatigue to someone who hasn’t experienced it is really difficult. The nearest comparison is of course asking them to imagine being really tired after staying up late, and now imagine having that feeling all day without sleep making it better. But I also feel fatigue is fundamentally different to normal tiredness, like it’s not coming from the same place in the brain. For example, I can wake up in the morning sometimes feeling well rested but after 10 minutes that wears off, and for the rest of my day I will feel fatigued, but sometimes I can choose to ‘push through’ and be productive despite the fatigue. Sometimes choosing to ‘push through’ the fatigue, rather than sleep, can improve the fatigue, but other times it worsens it. There is definitely a psychological component as well as a physical component, imo. These are just my thoughts and the way I experience it and I am sure others experience it differently.

The waking up in the morning part describes me very well. I can wake up feeling well rested but I am extremely tired 2 hours later. Thanks for your comment

I'm experiencing the exact same thing. I wake up, and feel like "oh it's not too bad today" and then *boom* it is back. I know certain triggers like having to focus on something or crowded/noisy places makes it worse, but mostly I get bouts of fatigue for no reason at all. Even just waking up for a few minutes in the middle of the night can ruin my next day entirely. My brain just doesn't work properly anymore and I was actually worried I had some form of dementia going on before I got diagnosed. I usually describe it as having a concussion and heavy jet lag combined, but with no pain. People don't understand it and I think that a lot of people see me as lazy. I have problems at work already and it is runing my career and quality of life. It is without a doubt the worst part of IBD for me.

Im still waiting for this scale to be more publicised to health professionals as it is now 2018 and it is the first ive heard of it after suffering crippling fatigue and weakness for many years...even doctors missing a severe B12 deficiency once upon a time ago! (It took the phlebotomist to tick B12 on the form as she suspected it! And she was majorly right!!). Heres waiting...waiting...waiting.....

I was diagnosed with Crohns last January 2022 and finally got my first prescription for my Azathioprine which starts tommorow. I get so tired it's unreal. I feel for my wife and kids because I can go to bed on Friday night and not get out of bed until Sunday evening. I feel such a let down to them.

I recently got diagnosed with ulcerative colitis and the fatigue is the reason I went to my GP. I am lucky to have few issues with my colon other than pain and some minor relapses, but the fatigue has been around for 10 years and got significantly worse last year. I am about to lose my job because of it and I don't know what to do anymore. Has anyone seen any improvement over time after starting treatment? I am on Pentasa daily and the last colonoscopy was fine, however the fatigue doesn't improve. I don't know what to do anymore.

I have the same I have told work and are understanding to my condition .. i do get very fatigued some times .. but I would say lifting weights and getting strong and gaining muscle has helped me so much to combat the fatigue … if I can’t workout after a week or so I start to re-lapse and my energy levels start to dip

I've found my fatigue is very reactive to what I eat. Wheat is my biggest fatigue causer so I limit it. I've also switched to a Low Fodmap diet with the assistance of a dietician because there were a lot of food sugars that were causing unseen inflammation. And sometimes I will just have a hospital grade meal replacement shake instead of "real" food for a day or two to give my system a break. Definitely ask for help with diet. It is weirdly overlooked
