At the stat of April 2024 I stayed at the Ibis Budget Coffs Harbour, Thinking it’d be a great budget option after having stayed at the Ibis Budget Sydney Olympic Park previously and loved it.
This one was a whole different beast which took budget to a whole new level, The room it self was $85 a night and it’s easy to see why Ibis Budget Coffs Harbour is a 2 star hotel. Where Ibis budget Sydney Olympic Park is a 3 star hotel.
- This room had ample mould in the bathroom.
- Air conditioner was nothing more then a glorified asthmatic rat of a fan on a 1 hour timer.
- The Mattress was lumpy and not even the protector over it could fix it.
- The toilet kept gurgling all night and filling it self up.
- There were no plugs near the bed or bedside tables.
- On the 2nd night coming back from doing a Wedding shuttle bus run, I went to enter the hotel using My room card lo and behold it wouldn’t work. So had to call the after hours number at 1am to let Me in, They then played 20 questions on where I was and why I wasn’t in my room. After that they realised they had only programmed the card for 1 not 2 nights, Realising their mistake they backed off and let Me be.
I got home Sunday and on the Monday woke up with a scratchy throat, Headache and generally feeling off. My Disabled Mum (work related back injury resulted in a spinal and ankle fusion) popped in to make sure I was home, As she’s got the main house and I’ve got the granny flat out the back (it’s a win win in terms of expenses, As well as Mum can still be independent but has someone there if needed). She took one look at me and went I think it’s a Bed Day for you to recover, Never seen you this crook or run down after a weekend run before.
Fair enough the hotel was $85 a night, But over the past few years especially it’s proof you can’t scrimp on the cleanliness of somewhere like a hotel where you have no idea who had the room before you.
