Two years after the release of the Grammy Award winning album Buena Vista Social Club, many of the same musicians went back into the studio to record the debut album of Ibrahim Ferrer, one of the stars of the BVSC. With Ry Cooder and Nick Gold producing, this release helped elevate Ibrahim to superstar status.
This album is a collection of eleven songs by the golden voice of Cuban music. Using the Buena Vista Social Club rhythm section and featuring the piano of Rubén González, this album takes the listener on a very different journey to that of any other Cuban record. It is an album of great subtlety and beauty, featuring an extraordinary stylistic range from the nostalgic 1950s American big band style, to stunning ballads with an unusual and opulent guitar accompaniment, as well as rich country-style son.
Ibrahim Ferrer, who had never been famous in his own right in Cuba, emerged as the one true discovery of the Buena Vista sessions. Always known as a musician’s musician with a naturally gentle and unassuming manner.

tuve la suerte de verlos en vivo, por allá por finales de los 90' , el único que no vino esa vez fue Compay, extraordinarios músicos, había un trompetista de nombre el "Guajiro" Mirabal que tocaba como los dioses, como siempre la música cubana ha entregado grandísimos músicos.

No matter how many times I hear it, look over the song lyrics again and again, trying my best to sing along in my admittedly bad broken spanish; I still find his phrasing and timing so complex... I still have trouble learning to sing this song. That's what I love most... The challenge of practicing!

Language question: Why does he sing "a mi me gusta que BAILE marieta" and not "BAILA"?

Because "Bala" means Bullet and Baile means "A dance" or "To dance"... As far as I know there is not an exactly translation because it is a particular use of the present time, but it means something like "I like that Marieta dance" or "I like Marieta to dance".

😂😂😂 ud los mexicanos son demasiado ridículos, supérenlo ya y dejen la expropiación cultural ya bastante tuvimos de ud con el cine mexicano... además esto es una versión de la canción de El Guayabero (músico cubano de antes del buena vista) que no es son ni mucho menos. Ahh y ese villancico no es meciano es de origen flamenco y baste conocido
