Ibz Mo Oxbridge is definitely reallyyyyyyyy good mainly cus of the people that go there, drawn to it cus of the hype it has, especially due its history and prestige. But for me, I'd say it's overrated but still great. Just what i feel, coming from a college student.

IK it’s cornyyy but Ibz before I started watching ur vids I never even considered applying to Oxbridge or any uni outside of my home city but now it is a big goal of mine and drives me to work hard everyday!! I really believe that people’s perspective of Oxbridge and other prestigious universities are starting to change because of people like you who are raising awareness of the fact that everyone should get equal opportunities when it comes to education and studying at top universities is something ANYONE CAN DO! Big love from Ireland

Sutton Trust is for state school only pupils with emphasis given to people on FSM, who are first generation etc. Not only do they do residentials to Cambridge but to most major UK unis and even fully funded trips to the US. In my opinion they deserve every penny they get.

Yes the key thing here is that Oxbridge is suited to students who have an excellent work ethic which forms a basis for their future success in their chosen employment sector ! You can’t expect to come to Oxbridge and be lazy and to be honest with you Oxbridge attracts more kids from private schools than the state schools which is unfair I think! Anyway I was so glad that the head of my son’s school wrote on my sons report ‘he has an excellent work ethic’ and this is true as he can easily cope with such a heavy workload and he’s only 10 yrs old ! 😂

I loved this!!!! I want to know your opinion on if there is a bias toward Oxbridge. Do you think employers and companies are biased against the names of Universities? Do you feel as though there is way more opportunities and recognition to those achieving exceptional grades compared to those who are just as good but unfortunately don't have the grades to prove it? Do you think everything should be based on grades? Sorry for all the questions, just passionate and eager to hear opinions xxx

To be fair, sometimes it does grind my gear when people say "Its good when you go to a good Uni because it makes you even more likely to get hired by employers" yeah graduating from either an Oxbridge Uni or a Russial group one is nice and leaves you a good impression, but why should it be different from those ordinary Uni's, Uni's shouldn't have a class to them just because they have higher or lower entry requirements than each other, it still is a Uni at the end of the day, why should it be addressed in a way that all the russial group uni's be known as the superior ones with all the intelligent people, it would annoy me to think employers will reject someone for a job just because they may have not gone to a good Uni A friend of mine sparked this frame in mind which I thought was quite interesting, he said "Although the younger generation may be getting smarter, they may not be as successful compared to the older generation" I feel like in some way society is now putting more pressure on children to do well in their GCSE's like I see at my school kids from year 7-11 are now doing after school sessions to improve in their subjects and now get helpful resources like Hegarty Maths, I feel like yes it is important to strive for the good grades, but kids now are not getting an insight to the working life enough now since it is all focussing on academia right now. It feels as if they are robots and they are being assigned to do only this one task and that is to get 9's and 8's I think when it comes to the working world, it's your passion and commitment into getting into that job and how much you are willing to work for it and how hard you work that matters rather than your GCSE's, yeah it is good that you come out with 9's 8's and 7's, but how is that going to determine whether are you going to do well in that job, you may have the knowledge, but the practical skills matter more than a paper of numbers that somehow label you as a person. Sorry that this is so long, when it comes to these type of topics, I really love to vent about these. There is so much more I want to say, but this will do for the time being
@callumclear488

@@harrietho8336 I really don't think many employers will look at your education to determine how knowledgeable you are. Education helps to show that you are a hard worker and how well you can learn/ understand new skills. Employers like it if you have a degree from a Russel Group University as those universities have to have a certain standard of work rate to be a part of the group, so graduating from one shows you are a hard worker. Yes, some people may be harder workers than Russel Group graduates, but that's harder for employers to see.

Callum Clear Yeah, I understand. Sometimes I believe that whether you are a graduate at a Russel group or not, it still determines that everyone has worked hard to get to that point. Yeah I get that the difference is the work load you get between oxbridge, Russel group and the ordinary uni's, but still we would of all worked hard despite that. I don't know tbh I'm just saying what I think, I'm only in year 13 and haven't experienced uni life yet

I'm ngl I had an off day in terms of motivation but I know that if I was in oxford or cambridge I simply couldn't afford that. This reminded me to keep that work ethic up Btw it really starts from the schools. Oxbridge will only accept more disadvantaged students when schools in disadvantaged areas LEVEL UP!

What I hear about going to Cambridge is just study, study, study... However, this means that it develops only certain set of skills instead of building you as all-round person. For example, I go to another very good university, the workload is quiet a lot, it's hard with quite a lot of practical but not as much as Cambridge. In this way I'm able to balance other things such as being student ambassador, i work with childrens in schools, volunteering in care homes, I do sports, and I'm planning to start writing a newspaper. It's not about bragging, or anything, my opinion is that Cambridge is too overrated and it doesn't give you the opportunity to do other things and become the person you should be. The life after university is very harsh and competitive, and of course it might give you some edge when it comes to graduating from Cambridge but not neccesarily. Enjoy your life people, do the things that you want not what your family expect from you, thats whats most important. Also, Ibz i come from an European country, I'm white but it doesn't mean that we don't experience discrimination (not saying that you've said it or anything) but next time it'd be great to ask someone from Europe, to see how they experience student life. Great podcast tho!

We entered the college and where about to go into the chapel when the porter stopped me an asked me for my ticket. Bare in mind that i was the only ethnic minority, im mixed, and everyone else was white. Why out of all the 15 students did she ask me?

Watched the first part so far, and I found it really interesting, especially as I am a Cambridge applicant. One thing that I thought about was Ibz saying that Cambridge students work harder than students at other universities. I just thought that the university system at other unis mean that they don’t have to work as hard, but that doesn’t mean that they don’t. The reason I say this is because even if I didn’t get into Cambridge, and being the type of student I am, there is no way someone could ever tell me I don’t work as hard as others. Not saying that he’s looking down on others though. Any other thoughts on that?

Yeah, I felt a bit uncomfortable when Ibz said that Oxbridge students work harder. I know they do to an extent but that's because of the (ridiculously short) 8 week terms, but I don't think its fair to imply that other students at other universities have an easy life. I'm applying for Oxford - good luck in your Cambridge application!

For networking, name-recognition, ability to get a job at any company with an 'old school tie' atmosphere (especially central London jobs in finance, banking, law and journalism) and general employment prospects/salaries soon after graduating, Oxford and Cambridge are not overrated. For ability of students, difficulty of course, departmental research output and living environment, Oxford and Cambridge are very overrated. I would not want to live in either place (far too pricey for the standard of living available) and would be unlikely to employ an Oxbridge graduate (they'd expect £10k more per year than somebody of equal ability from another university, just because of their university name-branding. Why employ a new graduate with a 2.1 from Oxford for £30k pa when you could employ a smarter graduate with a 1st from Manchester for £22k pa?). What I'm saying is: Wanting to study at Oxbridge is wise. Wanting to employ an Oxbridge graduate is unwise.
