Viv with a cap and a regular bat vs Australia, Pakistan or England cannot be compared to a 20 over merchant. Viv stood against all comers and raised the bar for aggressive batmanship that has not been matched and lifted his people's morale. De Villiers hits DLF maximums and lifts his bank balance to incredible heights, not quite the same.

agreed. When you talk of Sachin Tendulkar you have to look at his technique and precision. Sachin's strokeplay and his technique were the best. Maybe only Ricky Ponting came close to it. But Viv Richard's class, his style were just extraordinary. He played the game so easily without the display of skills and technique. It seemed effortless. His game itself was the skill. Played like a king. And he played against all the greats. Of course he never had to face the greats of his own country but his record against all the bowlers like Lillee Thompson Imran Kapil Hadlee Botham. Never could anybody dominate him.

Isaac Vivian Alexander Richards - was the most devastating & brilliant batsman to watch. A player so far ahead of his time, a real athlete & strong man almost like a boxer. A brilliant fielder & captain also. He is still light years better than all the modern day players with their big names and millions of dollars. Some fans are blinded by patriotism or even a hero worship or god complex to their favourite players of today. There are so many games played today that people are forgetting how great players of other eras were when the record runs & wickets tally’s grow more & more. They still don’t match up to the Greatness of Viv. Had he played today he would be the highest paid player by a long way.

He played in the nets. Listen to what inzamam said about viv. When WI team came to Pakistan, it was a rainy day when both the team went for practise. Pakistan team players skipped the practise as it was damp but viv was smashing their own bowlers in the net.
