First, the video discusses use of Z codes and sequencing of Z codes.
Some Z codes indicate the reason for the current encounter. These include routine exams and vaccinations.
Other Z codes indicate the patient is being seen for medical observation.
Some Z codes indicate follow-up exam after completed treatment.
Z codes may indicate aftercare following a procedure.
Z codes may indicate that the patient is being seen for a screening exam or test.
The patient may be seen due to contact with or exposure to a disease or other hazardous exposures.
Patient may be seen for inoculations and vaccinations.
There are many Z codes related to obstetric (pregnancy) care.
Z codes may be used for encounters for attention to artificial openings, such as tracheostomy or colostomy.
Z codes may be used for encounters for fitting and adjustment of prosthetic devices.
Z codes may indicate an encounter for renal dialysis.
Z codes may indicate that a planned procedure was not carried out.
Other Z codes indicate family or personal history of a condition.
Z codes may indicate patient status, such as a carrier of a disease, presence of pacemaker or shunt, or acquired absence of organ, artificial opening or allergy status.
A Z code is used to indicate body mass index.
Z codes may indicate long term drug therapy, such as insulin or antiplatelets.
Z codes may indicate dependence of machines such as aspirator, dialysis, wheelchair or ventilator.
