Fun fact! At the time, Scrat was an entirely fictional animal, a Sabretoothed Squirrel, but quite bizarrely palaeontologists have a found a prehistoric mammal that basically is Scrat, it’s called Cronopio dentiacutus, & it lived in Mid-Cretaceous Patagonia 99 MYA, while it’s not a Squirrel, it’s impossible to deny its semblance to Scrat. So if Scrat is retroactively a Cronopio, that means he’s from the subterranean Dinosaur world from the 3rd film.

What's even more powerful about the journey to return the baby was the fact that they were humans; the same species responsible for the deaths of Manny's first wife and child. He clearly had more reasons for revenge on them than Soto ever did. But Manny didn't act on them. Never. Not even once. Because he'd never wish that kind of pain on anyone. That shows how good of a person (or Mammoth in this case) Manny really is.

Fun fact: John Leguizamo, who voiced Sid the sloth in the franchise, has been given some time to do 30 different voices for the character, but none of them seem to pretty impressed with Chris Wedge, the director. So he did some research by watching a wildlife documentary footage of sloths from Discovery Channel and he learned that sloths store food in the mouths. When trying to determine what he'd sound like if he talks with his mouth full with his sandwich until he finally found the perfect trademark but final voice with the lateral lisp, this is where he worked on an excellent voice. And that's how he got the right voice for Sid the sloth.

I think the first Ice Age movie sets up the dynamic for the rest of the movies. That’s why it feels like you’re hanging out with these characters because it sets up the “stakes” and conflicts for the rest.

One thing I’ve always liked about Ice Age, if you include the human baby they have, you have all major divisions of placental mammals represented. Mammuthus primigenius - Afrotherian Megalonyx jefforsonii - Xenathran Smilodon fatalis - Lurasiatherian Homo sapien - Euarchontoglires

The two reasons for making out _Diego_ was dead was to remove him from the human meeting as humans tend to not fear wooly mammoths and Sloths but do fear Sabre Tooth’s and so that they had an emotional part to negate the loss of the baby

Fun fact about the baby surviving. It’s actually wayyyy better adapted to survive in water than its mom. As young baby most of your body is designed to just survive situations like these. Baby’s are buoyant and experts at holding their breath due to their high body fat and recent residence in amniotic fluid. The biggest actual danger to the baby isn’t drowning or suffocating, it would probably be how cold the water is
