I have never understood the ice spice thing, all of her songs sound alike to me and it’s all the same lyrical content. She’s very pretty, and I love that she looked different from the other girls, but she cheapens herself with the clothes. I don’t get the impression Ice Spice makes any of her own decisions tbh. Maybe not even her outfits. As an industry plant, I’m sure her team is trying to carefully craft her from the ground up. So when you say “she” did this or that, I really think she’s just the figurehead of an operation. I'm an underground local artist in California, US. I make EDM but I know plenty of other underground/local artists in other genres. If she had worked her way up from the bottom she would have had to be a lot more talented to compete with the underground rappers out there. I think, due to celebs lack of awareness to social issues, a LOT of people are sick of their apathy and blocking them. There’s a massive blocking movement on socials rn with celebs who haven’t spoken up about Palestine. And blocking them interferes with their revenue and income. So, that’s why no one really gaf about celeb culture anymore. Also, we’re struggling out here, and these celebs are so tone deaf to what people with going through. With the babystorme drama (this is basically a recap of what I read on Tiktok and Twitter) is that babystorme on TT started yapping about how the poor needed to flee America because it was going to become another civil war (like the recent movie, she had mentioned) and started yapping a bunch of spiritual stuff that didn't make sense and people got really concerned. This is where ice spice comes in because since they were friends she sees this happening on babystorme's socials and she gets concerned because it's basically spiritual psychosis; Ice spice contacted babystorme's mom and got her admitted into a psych ward against her will (allegedly) so now babystorme went on to "expose" ice spice for being a bad friend

Interestingly, both Tyla and Ice Spice came with a genre behind them. Ice Spice gave mainstream digestible NY drill music. Tyla put amampiano on the world stage. Also interesting is the archetype they represent. While Ice is like a Saweetie or Coi Leray (light skin baddie with recognizable styling), Tyla is basically our generation's Rihanna (good dancer, decent singing, trendy styling).

@leena5875 She did overtake Ice but I'm just giving context as to what launched them in the first place. As for the Rihanna title, fair, since the woman has a fashion, beauty empire, and memorable discography to do the talking. Tyla's come up really feels like Rihanna's old marketing tho.

Notice I didn't compare either of them to Beyonce because that takes a different level of singing ability and stage presence. Generally, their teams play to their strengths. Tbh, if I had to pick a different girly for the world stage (purely based on talent), Ayra Starr, Amaarae, or Tems would take Tyla's place and Kenzo or Young Devyn would take Spice's place.

Internet viral wise, most ppl dont care abt actual talent, beautiful voices, etc. And these viral artists’ music almost never seems to sound actually serious abt music, judging by its quality. What gets you famous now is whatever “silly” gimmick becomes viral, probably for its ridiculousness. Theres amazing music that deserves to be in the spotlight, actually nice, humble artists. Theres ways to make fun music w/o having weird, trash lyrics just for more streams.

Off topic but to sell, I prefer Vinted. They create a label for you that you have to print, you just need to put it on the box and give it to ups. When I used to sell with Depop, they took 10% of the price and I had to ship the item my own way and create a label myself. It cost me more than what I would sell the item for. Sometimes I didn’t even make a profit because of it. Just a thought!
