I've never seen one in Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan or Iowa. Must be a Southern thing. Since everyone saying they have them on every corner is located in the South.

We had those in Wisconsin in the 1960's & 1970's, maybe later. I think they were smaller and MUCH older. They dispensed 25# blocks of ice. My dad always bought them for our big Coleman camping cooler.

But grocery store ice is usually bigger cubes so the ice lasts longer in your drink or whatever and ice from these machines is usually small pieces but it's cheaper price and you get more.
