I’ve been here before. 2018 to be exact. I tried to get a private tour of Pinal Airpark (between here and Phoenix) like I’d seen many videos of people doing online. However, I was disappointed there wasn’t any tours available that day. I was trying to see Delta’s 747-400s before scrapping (retired the year before) and stuff like the TWA 747-100, 747-300s, and some Northwest 747s & DC-10s. Luck was on my side as the plane I was looking for was parked at the gate next to the parking lot (pfp). Incredibly, in the best luck I’ve ever had, I met a retired Northwest and Delta Pilot who flew one of the 747s stored there as his retirement flight. He had made his final flight a year before in 2017 and coincidentally took the same flight and decided the time I was there to look at the last bird he used to fly with his family. I don’t think I’ll ever have that luck again! We got to talking and he recommended Pima Air & Space Museum where he was going next. Safe to say it was amazing. Truly a rememberable day for me! Still some amazing aircraft here and turned out better even though I missed out on some rare classics. Hard to believe it’s already been 6 years since I was here! Thanks for the video!

That plane was completely overhauled and was close to flyable condition, but when the Air Force found out about the intentions for it to fly again they seized the engines and took the plane apart and sent it to where it is now.
@williamhudson4938
@williamhudson4938 Ай бұрын
@@hubriswonk Not quite. It sat in pieces for years at Air Force Plant #4 where it was originally built on the west side of Fort Worth, Texas. It's the home of B-24, B-32, B36, B-58, F-111, F-16 and now the F-35. I had the fortune of building the F-16 there for 37 years. And just as an aside, the B-52 is no where near as big as the B-36. The B-36 wingspan is 45 feet longer than the BUFF. I worked on that D model B-52 in the museum when I was stationed at Carswell AFB. The B-52 on which you commented about engines is actually a B-52G, which had P&W J57 engines, NOT TF-33s.

The B-52 you showed first is a B-52G, it is not powered by 8 TF-33's it is powered by 8 Pratt & Whitney J57-P-43WB engines, they went to the TF-33 in the B-52H for more power, better fuel economy and greater payload. these were all retired in the mid 90's, the B-52H is now getting the TF-33's replaced by R&R F130 engines. We have a Connie here in on the East Coast of Australia, at the HARS Museum in Illawarra, it actually still occasionally flies also.

10:37 Actually, the German aerospace institution is called the DLR, the "Deutsches Luft- und Raumfahrtzentrum". SOFIA is the name of the program, Stratospheric Obvservatory For Infrared Astronomy (it says so beneath the SOFIA on the plane).

The thing below that SR-71 at 1:48 is the D-21. The fastest drone in the world made by Lockheed Skunkworks at the time the A-12 (older sister of SR-71) were around.

Another excellent video! Hopefully someday the hegemon of the skies, the glorious Airbus A3, will be stored here someday.

Dam i wish i can come here with the huge problem being i live on a tiny island (Malta) with no direct flights. This guy managed to show us a lot of these beautiful historic aircraft. Keep it up Ice and enjoy as always 😉

I remember seeing documentaries about the Orbis jet and the Sofia one. The Super Guppy used to be in the Guinness Book of World Records. It's a shame that the liveries of the outdoor collection will succumb to weather exposure one day.

You should go visit the Museum of Flight in Seattle, WA. It’s located right next to the Boeing Field and there is a British Airways Concorde on display. It’s a nice place, went there back in 2017 way before I started this channel. They also sell models but they are quite pricy compared to other retail stores. I recommend you visit that place sometime!

Back in 2018 I was lucky enough to ride the oldest 777 (B-HNL) in its final days of flying. It was a flight from Hong Kong to Manila. The interior looked so outdated and IFE is not even functional, overall a unique flight.

Sure would’ve been unique, but obviously outdated lol

@@ice711real I see that B-HNL was built by Boeing in June 1994 but was retained as a demonstrator until it was sold to Cathay Pacific in December 2000. I remember watching a 777 ( N773UA) make flights for ETOPS certification in Hawaii in March 1995. Apparently that one is still in service at United almost 30 years later.

I actually live like an hour south of TUS and the aircraft graveyard. Also, if you’re confused why I brought up Tucson International Airport, it’s not just a civilian airport; it’s also a joint AFB.
