Testing the AMD Ryzen 9 7900X3D 12-core 24-thread CPU in 10 popular and demanding games in 2024, using an RX 7900 XT discrete GPU and Asus Strix X670E-F motherboard.
Check out Scan Computers UK for AMD Ryzen CPU, Motherboard & Radeon GPU bundle deals: www.scan.co.uk/shops/pro-gami...
With the success of AMD's Ryzen 7 5800X3D, it was only natural that they would find ways of including 3D V-cache in more and more CPUs over time. The result of this rush to add X3D to more high-ticket SKUs resulted in the existence of the Ryzen 9 7900X3D - a weird hybrid of a 12-core productivity CPU, and a 6 core gaming chip. Is this a worthy all-rounder, or does it fall short of the mark on both fronts?

If you're benchmarking Fortnite, you need to make sure that in the installation options, "Pre-download Streamed Assets" and "DirectX 12 Shaders" (if testing DX12) are installed. Without downloading the assets first, I find that the game suffers from some super bad stutters, and the performance is a lot more consistent.

@@IcebergTech Yeahhh other than that, I can't think of much else you can do. The game is constantly updating and the performance kind of just gets worse over time. It was better during the OG Season due to the lighter graphics but during these latest seasons, even with a 5900X and 3080ti I find DX12 to be a complete mess in terms of stutters. (Performance mode is okay though) The FPS is just never consistent, so it just makes for a really crappy game for benchmarking tests.

In my 2 years experience playing Fortnite and testing it on many different PCs, the best way to test this game and also play it, is on competitive settings - DX12 with everything on lowest, just view distance on epic. As mentioned, Streaming Assets and DirectX shaders need to be downloaded first. First 2-3 games are always stuttering, but after that I have no problem playing it on higher end PCs. I own 5800x3D with RX6800 - no problem and also my second PC 14600KF with 4070 TIS has also no problem with stutters. I play fairly competitive with more than 60 solo wins this season, so I can tell if the game runs smoothy. If I play on performance mode, which uses DX11, it stutters horribly, and frames are very inconsistent.

I recently bought the 7900X3D as it was on sale for ~50€ more than the 7800X3D (and still >150€ less than the 7950X3D). I am running a second gaming PC as a VM through Hyper-V which is streamed to the other users laptop, sharing my 6900XT between both systems and was even able to run 3x Baldurs Gate 3 in FHD just fine (the GPU being the limiting factor). Since I mostly bought used (except for the CPU and power supply) and reused some old case and SSDs I managed to essentially build 2 AM5 gaming PCs (one bare metal, one virtual) for less than 500€ each. Is the 7900X3D a bit slower when compared neck-to-neck to the 7800X3D? Sure. But being able to run 2 or even 3 PCs on one CPU while also having the highest available singlecore Performance for certain memory-access-heavy games at this low of a price point is amazing.

The benefits of flight sims like MSFS or DCS etc. is that they don't require the high fps and you could sacrifice it for fidelity and stability of those frames. hmm bad config of the system or the two ccd making it performing worse? my 12700k(8p core at 5ghz, with only 4.6ghz ringbus with ram at 7600c36(right now) perform higher with exactly the same gpu(sapphire 6900xt) both in cs2 and wz2. I've set it up to park the second CCD and prioritise CCD0 when it starts gaming, but some games - including CS2 and WZ - do seem to spill over onto CCD1, so that's probably adding latency.

@laszlozsurka8991 6 күн бұрын
@@IcebergTech That's exactly the problem with dual CCD X3D CPUs that games tend to spill over the second CCD which doesn't have the 3D cache therefore the CPU performs slower. That's why the 7800X3D is faster than both the 7900X3D and 7950X3D.

3d vcache is a cool idea, but the problem is when you start hitting resolutions like 4k it literally doesn't matter anymore because you are gpu limited, and if you do anything else like video editing a non 3d cache cpu will be better. For me it sounds like the best of both worlds. Not everyone can afford to have two PCs with different focus, hell I can't afford one. The price I find a bit too high, but I totally get how this is in fact a great CPU. There is a good chance if I was in the market for an AMD system (lack of money as mentioned before means I am not), that this CPU would be my number one choice. Thank you for this video, helpful. I know not fair, but the C23 results for multicore are 10 times higher than my i7-4710HQ. Funny.

No Thank You. The 7900X3D (and 7950X3D) specifically uses the background Xbox Game Bar app in Windows 11 as it's handler to regulate whether the extra cache gets enabled (and the extra cores get parked). So it doesn't work in linux. It only works in Win11, not Win10. It doesn't work if you registry hack out the Xbox apps. It only works in some whitelisted games. Putting the extra cache on just one CCD and not the other is a major blunder.
