The South African Icebreaker "AGULHAS" arrives at the Fimbulheim ice shelf 11th December 2016. Besides doing various scientific research for the South African research Agulas is there to bring people, equipment and supplies to and from their Antarctica base called SANAE. To meet up with them we came with two Arctic Trucks cars from Novo airbase, 650 km away along the Fimbuheim ice shelf equipped with radar satellite imagery and Ground Penetrating Radar to avoid life threatening crevasses along the way.
The video is shot with DJI Mavic Pro drone.

I recall seeing an icebreaker with a snout-like bow that blew compressed air up, under the ice. This threw the ice onto the ice sheet next to the channel formed. This cleared the channel and without ice in the channel, it didn't freeze over as quickly. BTW FYI this ship is named after the southernmost cape on the African continent. Cape of Good Hope is NOT the most southern.

I'm tremendously shocked to see all of this comments. For me, it was totally clear since I was 4 or 5 y/o why ice breaker ships exist, because my dad was a sailor. I recommend, all of you who don't know much about science, to read some basic science books. In germany we have "Was ist Was?"-Books for example and they are really good. They explain simple stuff, so that even non-academics and children can understand the topics. (in english, they are called "How and Why Wonder Books")

The Antarctica ice ring spans a whopping 70,000 miles completely encircling the flat earth we live on. 1000 miles beyond the ice shelf rises a majestic mountain range of some 14,000 feet, extreme weather conditions of 100+ mph winds and -90 degree temperatures have prevented further exploration into or across this no mans land mountain range. What wonders remain to be found on the other side of this impregnable barrier is a subject of speculation and imagination!

Richard M , well in my almost 31 years of working on ships crossing every ocean on this planet, from north to south, east to west , I have never run into one. Never seen one. Nobody that I have ever worked with has seen one let alone ran into one. I have probably been on every square inch of ocean out there. Now surely in almost 31 years of Trans ocean maritime travel and shipping career, I would have ran into one at some point. Where this giant ice ring is I don't know, but it's nowhere on earth . As a matter of fact nobody has seen it. Surely one of these guys could go find this ice ring since it is supposed to surround this flat earth and take a picture of it. Oh but thats right it is being guarded by hundreds of thousands of armed military from all the different countries, that are in on this cover up to keep us from knowing that the earth is flat. just say that if by some how this magical ice ring is out there, how would that work as far as holding the ocean in. Ice floats on water, so wouldn't the water flow right under it and fall off of this flat earth? Sometimes it's the little things that these guys don't think of when they come up with silly stuff like this. Nope, there is no ice ring. Nest story, just not true.

Ok , very impressive , but tell me, is the earth flat ? I havent been to space or antartica . But when I stand on the beach and look at the horizon I " think " I see the horizon tapering downward on my left and right . Or is this just something to do with my vision?
@philshea7525
@philshea7525 6 жыл бұрын
I,m not quite sure what you mean by " an ocean horizon is a flat circle " My question is simply this . If I am standing on the beach with my toes in the ocean , and I,m not changing my elevation . I am not climbing a ladder of any kind . I am totally stationary with my feet in the water . I am not moving up down or sideways to another location . I AM STATIONARY WITH MY FEET IN THE WATER . When I look at the horizon it does seem to dip , ever so slightly mind you when i turn my head slightly to the right and to the left.Obviously the horizon dead in front is closer to me than the left and right extremities. But both left and right are lower . Thus making me feel that we do live on a ball.When I look to my right or left that point I,m looking at is further away , but right and left do dip
