Today's video is about a package sent in by 1BitSquared with a prototype FPGA board. These boards are part of a new generation of open hardware which builds on a foundation of open source FPGA tools. At the time we streamed this live, the crowdfunding campaign was about to launch. It's been successfully funded, and at this time you can pre-order boards from the next batch.

Thank you. I've just got one of these boards and I'm impressed. What with the ridiculous install and registration process needed for the Xilinx kits, the final straw was the 5 minute 'build' times needed for a simple 'blinky' LED. The ICEBREAKER tool kit took me 4 to 5 mins to set up the install (I left it to build the tools from the git repos). After that my blinky binary stream builds take less than 3 seconds. The only 'problem' I came across - was with my USB serial port not being available. This was solved (after a google search) by removing the existing FTDI driver from my Mac OS X. I'm now using my board to design a retro sound card.

Thanks for motivating me to get back to my bench and have a go with FPGAs :-)

I used to watch your videos in the past but I "lost you" and couldn't remember your name... found you again at last and subscribed. I love the editing on this video... brilliantly put together.

Love your work! Consider placing the live chat feed screen directly below the camera. It will seem much more like you're addressing comments (right now it seems like you're glancing up and to the right/left). Keep posting videos please!

doesn't that depend on where the chat monitor is physically in my space too? :) anyway it's a great idea, making the physical and virtual space correspond more. i'll see what I can do, and thanks for the comment!

I was just getting used to the numbering convention on dual inline headers, and now these guys go ahead and redefine it!?!

PMODs are weird indeed- though the scheme has a reason, it’s intended to make sense when you use one dual-row header for two side by side 4-bit ports i think

The Playstation3 metldr2 is still waiting to be hacked. It would definitely need some side channel attack. Maybe you should give it a try. Would be a nice project.

if i went back to consoles, i'd be signing myself up to do very little for the people i like and a whole lot of work that might end up benefitting game pirates and serial harassers. nah i'm good.

I understand. Although you could keep all the secrets for yourself, and not leaking anything. Just for the challenge. And everyone knows, that it would be a hell of a challenge.

Really hard to justify $70 freaking dollars on this when there are other devboars with the same chip for $8 to $16 usd

there are cheaper devboards that have an ice40 if that's all you want, the ft2232h is worth some money too- it's the 480Mbps version, remember.
