Hi - glad you like it! So you were one of the people at that Marathon gig? Lots of people have talked about that performance of this piece, it's a shame we don't have a recording - but it was a really memorable experience. To answer your questions 1) Yes, our original lead sax player was Rick Longden, who came from a non-classical background and was a key part of the sound early on, but he left in 1993. 2) Well I had to rack my brains about who was playing in this performance, but I think the piece only ever featured two pianos. Hoketus of course had two Fender Rhodes (or other pianos) in most of their pieces, but there are only the two piano parts in this one. 3) Yes, thanks for pointing out that there are piccolos at the end, I'd forgotten about that - I'll change the line-up details.

@@Icebreaker_Official All good to know. If I recall correctly, there were 4 pianos in use in this piece in your Bang on a Can performance (though I think all 4 were Clavinova-type electric pianos).

@@dbadagna Well you could be right, tho I'm not sure how they would have been used. Trouble is it's such a long time ago I can't remember for certain. We also played Diderik Wagenaar's Tam Tam in the same Bang on a Can, tho not the same concert, so we had 4 keyboard players with us.

@@Icebreaker_Official I remember the Diderik Wagenaar piece (though I'd forgotten that his piece was played on a different concert), and also remember meeting him; he was nice enough to give me a sampler cassette containing several of his orchestral pieces. At 01:58 I can hear what sounds like multiple pianos entering successively, playing in different octaves. One of them sounds like a vibraphone and I don't hear any Fender Rhodes-type sounds.

@@dbadagna Fantastic composer Diderik Wagenaar, he should be better known. That point at 1:58 - yes that is two pianos gradually layering different octaves, plus the vibes, as you point out.
