With my wife Dace we went back to the other side of the map to share it with you and we are in Iceland, a country neighboring the Arctic Circle. Come with us, we will walk its streets to share them with you.
In this country where there are more sheep than people, there are only traffic lights in two cities, there are no McDonald's, there are no trains and there is no army, the police carry no weapons and in the entire history of Iceland no person has been shot by an officer .
Determining the country with the least crime is challenging, as anomaly measurement and reporting varies from country to country, and different sources can provide conflicting data.
However, with the aforementioned background it is clear why Iceland is often mentioned as having relatively lower crime rates, and that is a good subject to check walking through its streets.
Iceland has a very low crime level, which is attributed to its high standard of living, its sparse population, its strong social attitude against crime, a high level of trust in its well-trained and highly educated police force , and the lack of tension between social and economic classes.
The first impressions a visitor may take away of Icelandic society may vary according to individual experiences and perspectives, however we have encountered a great sense of friendliness and hospitality.
Icelanders are generally friendly, hospitable, and welcoming to visitors. They can provide useful information, help with directions, or give recommendations on places to visit.
The respect for nature will surprise you here even if you come from the most preserved countries, Icelanders have a strong sense of respect and preservation of the environment.
Tourists can perceive a deep connection of the society with nature, as well as sustainable practices and a conscious approach towards the protection of the environment.
On the other hand, Icelandic society values a relaxed and balanced lifestyle. Visitors can note a calm and peaceful atmosphere in the cities and towns, as well as a friendly and unhurried attitude on the part of the residents.
In our walks through Reikjavik and other Icelandic geographies we have felt a level of relaxation that is difficult to forget. And that is to highlight and share.
Traveling is hyper-living and Iceland promises a lot before our eyes, we'll talk about all those things that swarm around us and the impressive natural settings in the next installments.
