I am in the middle of editing our ring road journey. Love seeing what other creators do. You guys did great in the van with all of you. Seljalamdsfoss was one of our favorites. We went in march. Hit some snow. It was epic. We loved the hidden falls also. Skogafoss was so cool and even better as a campsite ⛺️

@@AdventuresWithTheHills That's really hard to tell. There are so many beautiful places. But the area around Myvatn Lake was really interesting.

your camper van is the biggest one than most tourists got for their road trip because of the size of your family. how was parking in Reykjavík downtown? ive never driven anything bigger than a SUV. how hard is it to drive this big van? one last question, where did you park to get to Loftsalahellir Cave? i couldnt spot any parking area near it on google map

Our van was AMAZING for the 4 of us! We saw lots smaller, some the same size and some even bigger RVs! We had no problem driving around Reykjavík. It was tight in some places, but we were able to get down every road and find parking wherever we wanted. I know it’s busier in the summer (we went in May), but there are some bigger places you could park and walk around if you don’t want to drive the main streets. My husband drives a big truck, so he had no problem driving this van. I drove it a couple times and was a bit more nervous - it took a bit to get used to maneuvering and I only drove it on big open roads… to be honest I didn’t like driving such a big vehicle and was glad I didn’t have to drive much. Also, lots of the camper vans are manual, so make sure that’s something you’re comfortable with before booking. As for Loftsalahellir Cave parking, there’s just a rough gravel lot off road 218 on the way to Dyrhólaey. You can see the lot at 16:52 in the video here.

Awesome video guys! I’m heading there next week too! So excited! Just a logistical question re your camera and the mist and spray- did you worry about it damaging your good camera or did you just use your iPhone in such situations?! Just don’t want to have any dramas with condensation or moisture in my camera!! Happy travels guys! Cheers from Australia

That is so exciting! You are going to have such an amazing time. Iceland truly is spectacular! As for camera use, it did depend a bit on the weather. There were places/times when we kept the good camera tucked away, but the weather usually improved within 10 minutes and we could take it out again. When we were really close to waterfalls we would just use our iPhones.

What time of the year were you there? I am guessing 8 months ago, June 2022? We are going in May 2023.

We were there the first two weeks of May 2022. So it will be very similar to when you’re going! We absolutely loved it and would definitely choose that time of year again. It was pretty chilly at times (snowed a couple days), but we were ready for it! Everything was open, but nothing was busy! Have an amazing time!!

@@AdventuresWithTheHills Thank you for responding to my message, must appreciated. What kind of layering did you wear? Did it rain the whole time that you were away? I was wondering how much wet stuff I will need to bring. We are going elsewhere first and somewhere afterwards so we are really packing for two different holidays. How did you find sleeping with it being light all night. Cosy I bet. We did a trip many years ago in a campervan to Tasmania in Australia that was fun.

What camper company did you rent through? We are a family of 5 traveling to Iceland in September ❤️
@AdventuresWithTheHills
@AdventuresWithTheHills 2 жыл бұрын
That’s awesome! September in Iceland will be amazing!! We went with the active model from Indie Campers. Our van only had seating for 4 though 😕 but they might have other models! We had a positive experience with them… the van was a little dirty/needing repairs inside (leaking around doors, heater didn’t work right, etc 😳), but I knew with a rental it wouldn’t be perfect 😝 We saw a lot of companies that were locally owned and operated and I would look into one of those and see if they have what you need (eg. Happy Camper, Kuku Camper, etc). Part of the reason we picked the one we did was because it had a bathroom (which ended up being necessary with the kids and the fact that you have to pay to use most public washrooms in Iceland) and the kids could sit on a bench seat right behind us (we didn’t have to take down the bed and reset it up every night). Lots of the other vans look like they have sideways bench seating at the back with no window views 😬 So just make sure you know what your model looks like. As long as you go into it with a flexible mindset and know there might be lots of rain, you’ll have the best time ever no matter what camper you’re in!!

did you guys buy a local sim card? is US driver's license acceptable in Iceland or do I need to apply for international driver's license? can you share how much is the per day rate of your camper van? coz u mentioned that it has a toilet which i like🥰
@AdventuresWithTheHills
@AdventuresWithTheHills 2 жыл бұрын
We did not buy a local SIM card, but we should have. We bought internet with our camper van, but it stopped working 2 days in and they had no way to fix it. So, I would definitely look into buying a SIM next time! US driver’s licence is totally fine. Having a bathroom in our campervan was incredible! With everything in (full insurance, unlimited mileage, bedding, internet, taxes and fees) our cost per night with the van was just under $300.00/night. When we booked it, the cost per night on the website said closer to $120-$150/night, but there’s a lot of other fees. We went in May when it was less expensive than the summer months.
